- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -21/+66We owe a debt of gratitude to the Bolivian soldiers that killed Guevara and then had the sense to bury him in an unmarked grave where no one could find the body, otherwise his tomb would have become the shrine of the deluded youth of the world that think that arming and empowering one faction of murderers to force everyone else to "share" is a good form of government.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -24/+54What's ironic is that the same useful idiots who idolize Che Guevara are the ones who scream bloody murder (heh) at alleged "torture" of equally bloody terrorists. http://www.cubaarchive.org/downloads/CA08.pdf
- PuterPrsn, on 11/22/2008, -7/+30So Hitler should be admired because he had firm beliefs? Stalin as well? Never mind what they did, we can admire them for being counter-culter and having firm beliefs. Right.
- WhatBubbaKnows, on 11/22/2008, -7/+29Those people are stupid.
- zurama, on 11/22/2008, -9/+31I hope I can soon write about how the statue was taken down :)
- PuterPrsn, on 11/22/2008, -12/+34There are a lot of Cuban exiles in New York - they're not all in Miami. Last account I had, the Cubans escaping Castro & Guevera didn't have a lot of love for either. If someone lets them know whats in the park, there's a good chance it won't last too long.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -9/+31And who liked to shoot people in the back of the head.
- badtzmartin, on 11/22/2008, -19/+40Wow. I'm beside myself.
Get ready. Your handbasket is waiting. - osko2052, on 11/22/2008, -4/+23It burns me up when I see a Che tshirt as well. I tried to explain who he was and after a short argument I was simply ignored.
- existing, on 11/22/2008, -5/+23I wonder how long the statue has been there?
- EMFK, on 11/22/2008, -15/+33Thanks for posting zurama. This is disturbing and what is more troubling are the idiots on this thread that are justifying people's 'admiration' of Che. Get a freaking clue and quick!
- DesScorp, on 11/22/2008, -5/+21Uh, Che hated Christianity. He took the standard communist party line that religion is the opiate of the masses and should be banned. You should have first explained THAT to her, and then marched right over to the camp leadership and informed them about the silly twit working for them.
- lazerus9, on 11/22/2008, -21/+37What do you expect from Satan's City!
Why not rename the park to Pol Pot Park?
Why not construct a Monument to Mussolini?
How about Stalin Square? - osko2052, on 11/22/2008, -13/+28If Che got his way America wouldn't even exist. He once said Cuba would launch the Russian missiles they had at the USA had it been up to them instead of Russia. What a nice guy. NOT!!!
- Dreamzville, on 11/22/2008, -19/+32I will look into this...thank you for the information. Take care.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -5/+18The indoctrination going on in universities is straight out of 'Boys from Brazil'. These are anti-American, communist factories. It is an absolute abomination. I am so grateful I ended up withdrawing from one such institution. My advice to parents, be vigilant with your kids, everyday, even beyond into their secondary education. It's amazing even the Beatles (who for the most part were war-protesting beatniks (still love them though)) Warned of the dangers of exonerating communist figures 'if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow'. If what they are trying to achieve is peace, then why they hell are they elevating violent historical figures? Simple answer, they don't want peace in the truest sense of the word, they want REVOLUTION. We can't let them...
@Romero just keep raising your kids right, that's about all we can do right now. - kingofinternet, on 11/22/2008, -9/+22you people are so ***** stupid, that's a 'living statue' street performer.
morons. - drhex31, on 11/22/2008, -5/+18well if that is the case when is Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot (just to nake a few) going have their own statue in central park they had even a bigger impact in history
- mcsenget, on 11/23/2008, -0/+12In my view, Robin Hood is more libertarian than communist. Why? Robin Hood took from the TAX COLLECTORS and gave back to the people whose money was stolen from them as 'taxes.'
People who think that he stole from the 'rich' and gave to the 'poor' aren't getting the most important points of the story. - rhunlimited, on 11/22/2008, -17/+29This makes me sick.
- PuterPrsn, on 11/22/2008, -5/+17You're kidding, right?
- DesScorp, on 11/22/2008, -6/+17The Che statue that recently went up in Venezuela was beheaded. I hope the one in Central Park suffers the same fate.
- existing, on 11/22/2008, -16/+27anselm83, I'm sure Castro would welcome you with open arms.
- btschul, on 11/22/2008, -1/+12http://digg.com/users/btschul/gallery/8130525/p.jp ...
- BiasedGirl, on 11/22/2008, -18/+29This is sickening. What a sad state of affairs! Statues for Murders in Central Park...
- Branchex, on 11/22/2008, -6/+17If you follow the chain of blogs through source links you will see this:
"UPDATE: Apparently, the sculpture is not intended to depict Che Guevara, but rather a street performer dressed as Che Guevara. Which I’m sure makes all the difference in the world to the families of Che’s victims."
I agree. - zurama, on 11/22/2008, -6/+17Oh dear Lord, he was not. He was an executioner and he liked to kill and he didn't think any of his victims needed a trial. There are 4,000 documented murders ordered by Che and countless others he executed himself.
- drachemorder, on 11/22/2008, -6/+16I would have buried him in a marked tomb --- along with an intense radiation source, so that anyone who came to worship at the tomb would get radiation poisoning.
- DesScorp, on 11/22/2008, -6/+16Sublex, Stalin had firm beliefs too. And Che was cut right out of his cloth.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -30/+39I took my sons to a Christian youth camp this Summer. Very nice place, with good, trusted, conservative leadership, and an excellent reputation.
Obviously, they employ a great number of young people as staff and counselors. Upon check-in, we were greeted by a young lady wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt. I bit my tongue for about 5 seconds, and then I asked her, "Do you have any idea who is on your shirt?" She replied, "Yes, Che Guevara." I asked, "do you know what he did?" She replied, "He was a freedom fighter for the poor. Like Robin Hood." I replied, "He was a ruthless butcher of innocent people for the sake of communism. His atrocities led to the most dictatorial oppression in our hemisphere, and Castro's evil still lives on today." She replied, "Well that's not what my professor told us." I said, "Well, your professor is wrong, and you might wanna think twice before you wear a T-Shirt glorifying a mass murderer." She said, "Thank you."
But as my wife and sons and I walked away, I heard the little commie bitch say, "Robin Hood," just loud enough for me to hear.
We are losing this country, and we WILL lose it, unless we are willing to do what it takes to save it for our children. And I mean, l whatever it takes. Nothing this gravely important comes without great personal sacrifice by a great number of like-minded people. - brexians, on 11/22/2008, -13/+22wake up....
- drachemorder, on 11/22/2008, -3/+12May I suggest one of these fine T-Shirts?
http://www.thoseshirts.com/anticheshirts.html - DesScorp, on 11/22/2008, -11/+20What the hell? Why don't we just put up a statue of Mao or Pol Pot while we're at it?
I hope this thing gets vandalized and destroyed. It's not just bad justice... putting it up is a disgrace. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -4/+12Wow, I actually agree with caferrell. Weird...
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -2/+10@caferrell -- I do not in the least find it odd that morals can be applied universally. I've been saying that ever since I became active on Digg. I've agreed with you fairly often.
Certain people -- no names -- see Jew, then conclude, neoconservative. Many (not all, not most) of the neoconservatives were secular Jews who had been through the communist movements (Stalinist and Trotskyist) and the socialist movements (Marxist and non-Marxist). They became anti-communist through an ideological understanding of Leninism (communism is too vague a word to use) and the oppression that is an intrinsic to its world-outlook.
Here we were, discussing communism and Che Guevara, and you throw in Israel for no apparent reason. You are wrong in that entire paragraph. - osko2052, on 11/22/2008, -9/+17Who will join me at midnight tonight for a statue relocation party? How about the Atlantic Ocean?
- jarcaf, on 11/22/2008, -8/+16Wow... I think I stumbled into an alternate universe. I haven't heard a lot of ***** here, but lots of information without perspective. Neither the communists nor the capitalists were entirely innocent. But i would argue that Batista was more of an ***** than Guevara.
I'm a proud US patriot, but I'm not so naive as to think that the USA is always the infallible "good" team. The US-instated Batista was a dictator who also had blood on his hands, and Che was the response. It infuriates me to see people want to kill those who don''t believe in their government system. I believe in capitalism... Obama believes in capitalism... and over time we're finding that unfettered capitalism leads to problems like trusts/monopolies and credit fraud. Capitalism is not perfect, The US is not perfect, and we shouldn't force ourselves on people who would prefer to try something else. Do you guys want to bomb Europe too?
Old spin keeps on spinning a half-century later. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -2/+10I agreed with him, too, and dugg him up! Maybe I did need an ambulance that time.
- alais, on 11/22/2008, -22/+29What next a statue of Hussein?
Theirs not ours... - osko2052, on 11/22/2008, -8/+15A 150 foot statue of Ob-a-a-a-A-a-A-ama and a 40 foot picture of him in every municipality.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -12/+19The statue is a 'living sculpture' (ie it was cast from a real person, totally covered in plaster, with only a straw to breath through) of a street performer, who was dressed as Che. This guy had worn this custume for 10 years, and 'performed' as Che daily outside galleries and museums.
The sculptor is Christian Jankowski, and he made three of these living sculptures. It is important to remember that these sculptures are of the street performers, who were people who fascinated Christian - the other two were of a bloke dressed as a roman soldier (but wearing beach sandals), and a woman dressed as a Dali painting (the one with the drawers sticking out of her body).
These street artists fascinated Janowski, and he felt he had to do something to honour them, so he decided to sculpt them.
The sculptures are touring as part of an exhibition designed to challenge peoples perception of art, humanity, history, fame and perception itself.
He has been described as a Sasha Baron Cohen-type figure, pushing the boundaries in an attempt to get reactions from his audience, so they expose their own ignorances and prejudices... I guess he succeeded, judging by the crap spouted here, mainly by people who blame Obama. He has NOTHING to do with this, nor does his policies.
Everyone who is spouting this crap about it being the fault of Obama (including scoottie & costi81 above) and calling America 'AmeriKKKa' (the artist is German, btw) are the Digg equivalent of the rascist morons spouting their bile in Cohen's 'Borat' movie.
Dumb *****. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -3/+10Oh godamnit, you're back AGAIN?
This is what, you're fifth account? Get a life - ozel01, on 11/22/2008, -3/+10I'm sure it was sarcasm but you can bet those things are coming, probably with Hitler as the pinnacle. The "education" our youth receive in many colleges and universities these days teach them the atrocities of people like this were in the name of progress to give more to the poor, hence the Robin Hood reference. Che should have never been memorialized in any way. Yet he was precisely because our youth are being miseducated about history.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+7Was she fired Angela? That would be news to me.
Wow, I didn't know you knew her.
*eyeroll* - antizog, on 11/23/2008, -3/+10Just vandalize it. Communists don't have any respect for property rights anyway so they shouldn't mind.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -4/+11Guevara was a murderous terrorist thug who executed many innocents. It's disgusting how much hero worship he is given by the "rebel against authority!!!11!" crowed.
- ORD2FRA, on 11/22/2008, -11/+17I don't believe Samuel Adams executed children and killed political opponents to get his point across.
And, it's truly sad when people equate the founding of the United States (the escape from tyranny) with Che (placing people INTO tyranny). Completely different, and your schooling system has failed you if you cannot tell the difference. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+7"Obama and his Commie sympathizer jew buddies"
LOL, why am I not surprised that someone who admits he was banned for racism (check his profile before he deletes the shouts) is also an anti-semite? - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -3/+9No.
If you must, first ask him WHY he put the poster up in the first place. Ask him what values Guevara held or what actions he committed that he finds worthy of posterization.
If you know if he is opposed to any other murder/terrorist, ask him why he would denounce one man who engaged in those activities but no Guevara. If he's a hypocrite, and you feel like pointing out, you now can. - swrostmore, on 11/22/2008, -6/+12I don't think there were any good-guys in revolutionary Cuba. On one side you have an oppresive military dictator who tortured people and executed dissenters for decades, and on the other side you have socialist guerrillas who practice military-style justice on suspected spies and deserters. How do you pick a "good guy" out of that crowd?
