- jugglerforpeace, on 09/04/2008, -28/+434I'm a 66 year old man. I have a disabled child. He has cerebral palsy. When he was born I changed my life entirely to be near him and to help take care of him. I quit a high powered job and started a small business close to home. I have spent the last 40 years helping my wife to care for our son. He is my best friend and we will be pals forever. I think Sarah Palin should have said in her speech, "I would love to accept the nomination as Vice President, but I can't. I owe it to my newborn disabled child and my other children to stay close to home and work with my husband to take care of them. So I respectfully decline the nomination as Vice-President." This is not a sexist comment. It takes two committed parents to take proper care of a disabled child. She is not a decent role model for those of us who have disabled kids. She is never going to be able to fulfill her obligations to her child and be a decent Vice-President. She knew this child was coming. I did not know that ours was disabled until he was 9 months old. She is absolutely unqualified to be President. She is not pro-family values. The odds that McCain will not survive 8 years are pretty high, so realize that you are really voting for President Sarah Palin. Does that send chills up your spine. We don't need a pit bull, we need a grown-up. The world is watching. Lets not screw it up again!
- SheilaNoya, on 09/04/2008, -23/+263OK - so let's sum up what we really learned about Palin...
1. She can effectively read a speech written by Bush's smear merchants.
2. She knows how to lie with a straight face and make false accusations without batting an eyelid.
3. She believes Bush's policies were the right ones for America and we shouldn't waver now.
4. She follows the tired old Republican strategy of attacking anyone who disagrees and implies they are anti-American and they don't love America.
5. She has refused to have any real press conferences, or answer any questions about where she really stands on the issues.
6. She believes we are doing "God's work" in Iraq and vows to continue fighting "evil" (more religious wars?)
7. She's a rabid, far right Republican who hates "liberals" and anyone else who doesn't march in lock step with the archaic Republican agenda.
8. She has no intention of trying to unite Americans again. If you don't follow the Republican way of thinking, then you're not really a true American.
9. Even though the Iraqis are demanding that we get OUT of Iraq, Palin and McCain both insist we must stay.
10. She expects us to equate being mean spirited and hateful with the term "strong leader".
11. Like McCain, Palin believes that the effective way to fight terrorism in over 60 countries is to continue blowing up Muslims in one or two countries. We've already learned that this yields the opposite results and only creates more terrorism, but she hasn't figured that out yet.
12. She's proved that she's the exact opposite of Hillary, but insists that women will like her just because she has a vagina and some kids.
She scares me even worse than McCain does. Letting McCain/Palin in the White House would be a nightmare for America that would make the Bush years look mild by comparison. She managed to do one thing... she managed to energize me even more NOT to let McCain win. - bbtweb, on 09/04/2008, -12/+179I really wish this story could make the front page of digg. I've been an Obama supporter all along, but I tried to listen to the RNC speakers, especially Palin, objectively hoping to actually hear the same things - what vision does she have for the future. Instead I felt like i was watching a high school assembly for student body president.
- Garmonbozzia, on 09/04/2008, -22/+167Glad to see at least one person woke up. Too bad there are still so man more that support Republicans. Their willingness to trample civil rights is nothing new.
- cweathers, on 09/04/2008, -14/+148Yep, despite the media giving her a break, Palin's speech really didn't play well with independents. Early word from the focus groups held last night (I'm citing a Detroit Free Press group), is that Palin's speech almost unanimously turned off independents. This was a speech that rallied the Republican base, but it went no further than that.
- kds405, on 09/05/2008, -7/+112I thought Palin was very disrespectful and lacked class during her speech. She mocked Obama. She didn't criticize, she made fun of him. No main Republican besides John McCain himself tonight expressed any sort of admiration for Obama as a man. Almost every speaker at the DNC commended McCain for his war service. I don't believe John McCain is a bad man. He would have been a decent president...years ago. Now, he is just weak and doing whatever it will take to reach the office. Palin is indicative of this.
- Beaver1279, on 09/05/2008, -10/+106I am a Ron Paul supporter who will also be voting for Obama. I know this may not make sense to a lot of you. The obvious reasons to me are the war, civil liberties and net neutrality on which Obama is the far superior candidate.
Also, first and foremost I could never vote for someone who does not believe in evolution. The last thing we need is another idiot in the white house. - xysea, on 09/04/2008, -14/+96Sarah Palin is supremely unqualified to hold the office she aspires to; and she has nullified the argument that Barack Obama is unfit to lead.
When she makes ridiculous remarks like she did in last night's speech, she just looks mean, petty and childish. But then what could you expect from someone who called a cancer patient a 'b****' and a cancer?
Stay classy, Sarah Palin! - Hillsfar, on 09/04/2008, -15/+83The speech was great, but it wasn't a uniting speech. It was an attacking speech. It was full of lies and smears and attacks. A real REPUBLICAN speech.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -11/+70As an undecided independent voter, I found her very arrogant and condescending. I have now made my decision on who to vote for.
- haikuFU, on 09/05/2008, -8/+62McCain's ex-wife was a pageant girl, his current wife is a pageant girl, and Palin is a pageant girl. See a pattern here?
Senator Greenteeth is lookin' for some action. - rael74, on 09/05/2008, -8/+51Some of you yanks will fall for anything.
At least that other bitch Thatcher spoke her 'own' mind.
If this puppet ever ends up controlling the world, we're f##ked. - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+44Well that started backfiring this morning with the revelation that she cut funding for special needs kids educations.
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -6/+46"We don't need a pit bull, we need a grown-up."
You are damn right. Her speech to me sounded so childish and I tried as best I could to remove any bias I have and watch it from a neutral perspective. She tossed out insult after insult and she couldn't possibly have been more condescending. She sounded like she was writing comments on YouTube videos. She basically demonstrated to America that she's a bitch and that if she doesn't agree with you she'll just insult you and demean you. How is that productive? How does she expect to accomplish anything in Washington when all she can do is toss out insults in the most demeaning way possible? Now listen to Obama in contrast, he is never condescending, he focuses on the issues not the individual and every time he opens his mouth it is constructive. He seeks to bring people together, she demonstrated she's only interested in pushing people apart. Obama knows what true leadership is and what it requires and I want a true leader as my President. I'm TIRED of being embarrassed by my President. - paiddom, on 09/05/2008, -5/+45The media has not talked much about the false statements made by the McCain/Palin campaign. Its sad all they are interested in is blowing smoke up everyone ass so they can sell more papers and get higher ratings. McCain is an idiot, he has merit but no judgment. If he ran a clean positive campaign he would have killed all chances for Obama. But too bad he choose to be a slime ball. I was a POW for 3 years and I have never used that as an award. I have never touted this title to any of my friends, family, or acquaintances. Being a POW doesn't qualify me for anything. I don't want anyone's pity.
- sidewinderaim9x, on 09/05/2008, -9/+45Thank you Scrubs for this:
You know why Sarah Palin's like school in July? No class. - klisejo, on 09/05/2008, -2/+37I couldn't handle how they were ***** all over "community organizers" just to attack Obama. Who's elitist now?
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -13/+46But if she stayed at home with her special needs kid the GOP couldn't use the "special needs kid" angle to try to buy votes!
It sounds like her family is suffering due to her political ambitions.
Imagine going from "reformer Palin" to "corrupt ***** Palin" in just a couple days.
Imagine being her daughter and reading on LGF what a slut she is.
That's hard for a kid to take. - ryrocker, on 09/04/2008, -6/+38the republican party isnt the problem.... its the people in the republican party...
- AriaStar, on 09/05/2008, -12/+42I see Obama/Biden and I see something different than we've had this past eight years, and I see some hope.
I see McCain/Palin and I see more stripping of our right and feel sick to my stomach.
I look back at Obama/Biden and, thanks to the comparison, I see a beacon of light.
This country can not handle more years of Republicans, of ANYONE, taking away more rights and continuing in a *****-up war we shouldn't be in. That the GOPs see nothing wrong with even more deprivation of rights is alarming. - tpahornet, on 09/04/2008, -12/+41I thought this article was very well written and delivered a very strong point! Good Job!
- sidewinderaim9x, on 09/05/2008, -2/+31I admire you my friend. I admit that I don't know much about cerebral palsy, but I'm going to wiki it right now.
- Buddhaismybuddy, on 09/04/2008, -12/+38They need to sic Hillary on this woman, and put her away for good.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -6/+30A gun toting, moose murdering, bible bashing, anti-abortionist right-wing, intellectually challenged, blinkered American bimbo - surely we are all doomed. Personally I think Scooby Doo would have been a better choice.
- flossdaily, on 09/05/2008, -3/+27Entangled:
"How are the Republicans for trampling civil rights, when we are for limited and small government?"
Well, historically Republicans are the ones who try to legislate the behavior of individuals, while trying to shrink only the parts of government that keep big business in check.
How do Republicans trample civil rights? Well:
Republicans are responsible for locking kids in jail for 20 years for merely possessing some marijuana. (See War on Drugs: Nixon-Reagan)
Republicans are responsible for trying to alter the constitution to discriminate against homosexuals. (Yes, Gay Marriage and Civil Unions are Civil Rights)
Republicans are responsible for denying habeus corpus to prisoners both foreign and domestic. (That means the right to have a trial- the SACRED right. They've denied this to US CITIZENS, not just foreigners)
They refuse to allow physician-assisted suicide. (The right to die with dignity is a civil right)
Is that enough? Do you need more? - chilldeity, on 09/05/2008, -10/+34I can't her seriously after that lame hockey mom *****
- thegsa, on 09/05/2008, -2/+26Wow, that's ***** Up.
- magamiako, on 09/05/2008, -2/+25EntangledPhysx:
I don't know what speeches you watch, but I have yet to see any Republican that is in favor of a limited government. Smaller, perhaps--but smaller doesn't always mean better. And there are very minor technicalities here that you forget that get exploited.
Budget-wise, hiring contractors to do everything usually involves paying more for the work to get done. While this is technically considered "smaller government", it involves bigger and more wasteful spending.
The government doesn't need to physically hire people to tap into your phone system, they can get the private entities to do it for them. The contrast to this is now that the private entities do it, they also have more legal rights to do so.
They then turn around and take the money they need for private contractors away from government programs which do help people.
So sure, small government yes. Limited government? Absolutely not, their powers expand greatly through all of these minor technicalities of wording. - lowtolerance, on 09/05/2008, -5/+28***** you, you self-promoting piece of *****
- slearwig, on 09/05/2008, -2/+25I'm not voting in response to Pearl Harbor.
I'm not voting for a P.O.W. from 38 years ago. - absurdist, on 09/05/2008, -3/+26Ah, so now the lying sack of crap has a new page of his sorry little blog to promote. Do you really think it's unnoticed that:
A: you just joined digg today
2: you spam your blog in every comment
iii: you couldn't be a more obvious shill if your picture showed you in your new McCain campaign beanie? - BossKey, on 09/05/2008, -3/+25Palin's immature remarks struck a raw nerve with that "community organizer" slam. There's a quote going around now on some other sites' comment threads:
"Someone needs to remind Palin that Jesus was the community organizer and Pontius Pilate was the governor." - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -4/+26This speech could not possible have been written to win over independents. It was directed at the republicans almost as reassurance that she was the right choice and she had weathered the storm. It's no coincidence that she hasn't been in contract with the press especially after the last few days of bad press.
The speech also gave the impression of repubs having a corner on patriotism and Christianity. It also tried to define success as only achievable through military experience. - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -9/+31Republicans = Global social breakdown, rebelllion, wars and deadly terrorist attacks en-masse on US soil as well as world isolation.
Democrats = A strong chance that America may redeem itself, re-cultivate relationships of love and understanding and, dissolve today's poison of making $$$ at any expense.
The whole sane world is siding with Obama......why does illness and sickness prevail in the US where people are still considering voting for McCain? Why? - doublehead, on 09/05/2008, -5/+26Ok could someone write me a speech I can read in public with a snotty voice so I can be popular too??? I don't have to know what the speech is about, I just have to read it so I can "knock it out of the park" too. :)
Hello . . . Is everyone asleep but Diggers? How can anyone fall for this?? - coopaloop, on 09/05/2008, -7/+28This was exactly my reaction when I heard she had a baby with down syndrome. If she is really pro family values like she says, shouldn't she be caring for her child for her special needs child for the next 8 years?
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -10/+31Palin's speech was obviously written for twelve year olds. I'm not surprised.
The demographic was basically just that, a mix of an Elderly Nazi Rally, a group of evangelical KKK Vips and a massive amount of life long Jenny Craig members. It was perfect for the environment.
The speech was directed to the lowest common denominator of our society, for those that need their thoughts emailed to them, but it was an insult to the intellect of any rational, logical thinking person. - CraigKostelecky, on 09/05/2008, -1/+22Zoinks.
- phuzzy3d, on 09/05/2008, -0/+20Very well said. Best wishes to you family.
- Beaver1279, on 09/05/2008, -1/+20To address your points
1) You are right about Biden. However Obama is the only major candidate for net neutrality.
2) I just said his policy was better. I did not say it was good.
3) Anecdotes are a terrible way to argue a point. You and I both know that we will live in a freer country under Obama .
And just an added point we will all pay less taxes under Obama (unless you are super rich, then you're gonna have to pay). - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -18/+37It's the lack of honor in the Republican party.
Look at the right wing shills on digg.
No honor among them at all, just a willingness to lie and deceive their fellow citizens. - shallot, on 09/05/2008, -3/+22she scares the hell out of me...people should be scared of her more than McCain...Very very soon, you will find an invalid McCain hand over the control to her...he'll soon be puppet in the hands of his veep...that's another 4 years of puppet show...as if 8 wasn't enough.
- absurdist, on 09/05/2008, -1/+20Sure thing there, skippy. Tell me, what's the going rate that the McCain campaign is paying for an individual's dignity? I hope you held out for at least the 30 pieces of silver AND the beanie.
- alwilson, on 09/05/2008, -3/+21Well, as VP see won't have to stay home and take care of her disabled kid. That will be sourced out to high priced nannies at the expense of taxpayers.
- GumGuts, on 09/05/2008, -3/+20Wait... what?
- flossdaily, on 09/05/2008, -1/+17It was so damn offensive. Obama was president of the Harvard Law Review. For you non-lawyers that basically means that when he graduated he could have gotten any position in the lawyering world (clerking for a supreme court justice, getting a position at the biggest law firms in the country making obscene amounts of money, etc.). INSTEAD of trying to earn gobs of money or taking high-power legal position, he took a job with crappy pay so that he could use his considerable skills to help his community.
The idea of actually helping less fortunate people is so alien to Republicans that they actually think it's socially acceptable to mock people who do it.
Compassionate conservatives? What a crock. - JamJosh, on 09/05/2008, -2/+18Well thought out response R-Tard.
- unida767, on 09/05/2008, -0/+15I admire you. Nuf said
- Ajajadude, on 09/05/2008, -0/+15I believe the going rate is one soul.
- sjmarie, on 09/05/2008, -0/+14I have a child with a disablity, I couldn't think of leaving her to pursue a rigorous career. I'm only willing to work partime and my husband helps. I wouldn't want to leave her in the care of others. That's just me.
