- overkil6, on 07/16/2009, -12/+660Canada has a lottery system to see who gets health care? I must be the luckiest guy alive because every time I need it I win!!
- blorc, on 07/16/2009, -24/+450I think we have a new meme.
Glenn Beck is ***** psychotic. - TheTaoOfBill, on 07/16/2009, -40/+420The caller is right. Glenn does not understand/care to understand about the trillions our economy is losing because of a lack of a healthcare plan. Conservatives are completely unable to understand the concept of the bottom line. They think they are being fiscally responsble by spending as little as possible. But what they are really doing is cutting off economic investment. By taking healthcare costs off the hands of employers and consumers we lower healthcare costs by funding preventative healthcare and we make our businesses much more globally competative.
Had a government healthcare been in place GM wouldn't have had to sacrafice car quality for healthcare benefits. And without that cost they could have been a thriving business with cars the world wants to buy. - YENK, on 07/16/2009, -26/+376***** you Glenn Beck.

- IHaveIssues, on 07/16/2009, -3/+248I have seen that disinformation spread in other forums as well. BTW I'm Canadian and I also must be a constant winner.

In my honest medical opinion, the condition was preexisting - oh, and your health insurance doesn't cover it. - jareddennis, on 07/16/2009, -14/+221GET OFF MY PHONE!!! That's awesome.
- MrXfromPlanetX, on 07/16/2009, -13/+207Let's all send Glenn Beck, Bill Moyers Journal interview with Wendell Potter head of CIGNA PR. Lets see Glenn Beck justify this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QwX_soZ1GI
- FTWmovin2canada, on 07/16/2009, -10/+203I couldn't make it past 1:45. I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than that idiot yelling into a mic.

- method7670, on 07/16/2009, -7/+127Wow what a hack, yelling at someone who disagrees, my god. I don't think I've heard my 5 year old cousin cry that bad.
First off, interrupting a caller with a insane serial killer scream. You stay classy Glenn Beck - HopeMonger, on 07/16/2009, -9/+120Glen...there are people dying in the streets because they cannot afford it.
Wow, he is off his rocker - lucutus, on 07/16/2009, -1/+107Nothing new here.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ69SiQ3gUw
- ArtosRC, on 07/16/2009, -19/+124Disgusting. The caller catches Beck with his pants down on the issue (as always), and he goes forward with his time-tested knee-jerk reaction: belittle the caller into submission and discredit what they say by being loud and playing the victim.
The world needs Glenn Beck like the world needs a hole in the chest. - AcaciaJules, on 07/16/2009, -8/+100Whenever I see or hear anything about him, for the rest of my life, the high pitched screeches of GET OFF MY PHONE! GET OFF MY PHONE! will run through my head, and I will laugh.
- darwinwin, on 07/16/2009, -12/+85People just dont understand. Glenn Beck cannot shout like a bitch. He is the douche of the universe and by calling him shouts like a bitch, you are lowering the standards set for the bitches

- dancantone, on 07/16/2009, -5/+65that avatar of glenn looks baaaad....
- ManUnitdFan, on 07/16/2009, -3/+60Prior to bankruptcy, GM was paying $5 billion a year in health care costs, with obligations for future retirees pegged at $47 billion. Any taxes they have to pay to help provide a public option will be a ***** ton less than what they're paying now.
- cdgks, on 07/16/2009, -2/+58did you read that article? FTA: "Canada’s medical system is radically different from ours, but there’s at least one thing we have in common: a shortage of primary care doctors...a few overwhelmed primary care docs are using lotteries to kick patients out of their practices"
So from that I understand that the USA is also short on primary care doctors (not just the socialized healthcare systems) and that "a few" places used a lottery, like Powassan, Ontario (population 3,309)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powassan,_Ontario
My understanding is that in Canada there's a shortage of doctors in rural/small towns, because doctors want to live in cities (I live in a bigger city and had no problems finding a doctor)
oh and FTA "Health lotteries aren’t uniquely Canadian. Oregon recently held a lottery to determine which lucky residents would win state-subsidized insurance." - Skootles, on 07/16/2009, -12/+67Sounds like the man has a pinecone shoved up his vagina.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 07/16/2009, -6/+57
In a for-profit healthcare system, the system has an interest in treating you, getting you healthy, getting you out the door, and getting paid.
Not quite right.
The system has an interest in treating you, and getting you healthy so long it's financially prudent for their bottom line. i.e.
If the math sorts out that it's in their best interest for them not to pay for your life saving cancer therapy- you're SOL. - cramd, on 07/16/2009, -3/+53And all this time I thought that the ticket I was buying was for the Lotto 649. Wow I would much rather win an angioplasty than a few million dollars. Thanks Glen.
- Camote, on 07/16/2009, -3/+48What kind of treatments? Because I guarantee it's not treatments for any sort of life-threatening conditions. Canadians that cross the border for health care fall under one of two categories; people seeking cosmetic or otherwise non-essential treatments (they can argue that stomach stapling and such are life saving, but they're not), and people who have money and FEEL like they need to get treated despite medical evidence to the contrary. Hypochondriacs, people that go to the Hospital Emergency rooms with the sniffles, situations like that.
And as to the lottery thing that Glen mentioned, he's right, but he's totally misrepresenting it. In small rural areas where there's only one or two family doctors, people who want a family doctor must put their names down in a lottery, and it's a random draw. This isn't really an issue in larger urban areas as much, and you always have the option of going to the hospital. However, what's the alternative to this? Privatizing the process? Then it's the exact same situation, except now it's the people who can afford the health care who get it, rather than a random draw. It's not like people who aren't drawn can't get health care. They just wait a little longer to get a family physician. - dn11, on 07/16/2009, -5/+504. US spends more on health care in terms of actual out of pocket cost than any industrialized nation in the world and is ranked well below all the countries Glenn was criticizing for their supposedly crappy health care systems in terms of quality. We only have the best health care for those who can afford to pay for the best - just as in his example foreign presidents etc.
5. If we don't find a way to pay for health care in an affordable fashion and straighten out our broken system - it is going to come back to haunt the economy anyway. Glenn defends the fact that we don't let people die in the streets - guess what, those people with no health care end up in the emergency room racking up huge bills. Who's paying for it? Why couldn't they have been allowed to have a cheaper doctor visit and preventative care instead? - RocketGib, on 07/16/2009, -5/+48Did someone punch him in the nuts?
- LiThiuMElectro, on 07/16/2009, -0/+42Well my mother was lucky when she "won the lottery" when she had colon cancer and got treated 8 years ago and she nows live a good healthy life Thanks you Canadian health Care lottery.
No seriously the "Lottery" he's talking about is because of shortage of family doctors. In SOME province not ALL Canada first of all and second of all.
If you go at a public hospital you WILL be treated without any cost and "lottery" system you just sit and wait for you turn and you see a doctor.
And about the Suing I never heard of someone suing due to "lottery" or senseless ***** like that. The only cases of suing is for medical error, which can and will happen in every country once a while, doctors are humans and they sometimes makes mistakes.
That radio host is a retarded and provides disinformation is it really sad to hear that kind of stupidity on the public radio. - dn11, on 07/16/2009, -3/+45we're already paying for it - but we're paying more. He seems proud of the fact that we "don't let people die in the streets"... but guess what? Those people with no health care end up in the emergency room with very expensive bills, and no one to pay them. The whole system is already absorbing that cost. It would be much cheaper if they had a way to get preventative care, regular doctors visits etc.
- MWeather, on 07/16/2009, -10/+52You do realise that Medicare has less overhead than private insurance, right? You get more medical care for your dollar under Medicare. It's one of the worst examples to use to criticise how government programs are run.
- Nocturnalis, on 07/16/2009, -4/+46LOL!
Best!
/dugg - mxxz, on 07/16/2009, -0/+41I'm Canadian. I broke my collar bone playing hockey, and that day I got all the required health care, so I must have won the lotto. Oh and I had bronchitis saw my doctor that day, must have won the lotto again. My families been buying 6/49 tickets for 10 years now haven't won once. Yes getting health care in Canada is definitely like winning a lottery.
- Dinsdale77, on 07/16/2009, -5/+46Holy balls you guys.
- zip000, on 07/16/2009, -0/+40It's true; she should have been on her own phone. He had a right to be upset at finding some random woman on his phone. I would have reacted the same way...but without the horse whinnying since my voice doesn't go up to that register.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 07/16/2009, -1/+41Holy *****, I'm a winner every time too!
Wow, Digg must be lucky or something... - rocknog, on 07/16/2009, -2/+42That's all you can see? "Dur, he shares my political views. Clearly he can do no wrong." Even if he were absolutely right, the man is ***** mentally ill. Who acts like that? He is literally acting like a child. This is a grown man here, screaming like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum. I've never seen anything like that in my life.
- dwtc, on 07/16/2009, -6/+44I'm no fan of universal healthcare, but the way he belittled her and was completely rude to her from the very beginning was utterly shameful, way before he even got to the yelling and the screaming. That's the biggest problem with political conversation in this country today... It's all about us vs. them, and how My Opinion is The Right One. He doesn't care that she may have some valid points or that she may have a point of view that he's never seen before. He takes his set of valid points and his point of view and uses them as an excuse to be a total jerk. Then the Beck/Limbaugh/Hannity/Coulter/Malkin fans feel like they can go out into the world and argue with "liberals" using the same arguments and the same attitude.
It's the whole "I'm right and anybody who begins to disagree with me is a pinhead who deserves to be screamed at" attitude that really turns me off politics, yet at the same time, makes me want to do something about it. - caramba421, on 07/16/2009, -1/+39"Intelligent, healthy, future-planning people DO NOT BENEFIT FROM SOCIALIZED SYSTEMS. This is the most important point."
By making a blanket statement like this, you are revealing something about yourself. It is apparent that no matter what evidence you were presented to the contrary, you would disregard it because it doesn't mesh with your ideology. This is known as cognitive dissonance.
In reality, there are a great many socialized systems that work wonders for us. Imagine if EVERYTHING was privatized. That means that every month you would receive in the mail:
The Military Bill
The Highway Bill
The Firefighting Bill
The Police Bill
The School Bill
The Animal Control Bill
The Parks and Recreation Bill
The Sewer Bill
The Forestry Bill
The Fish and Game Bill
etc...
Obviously, this would be haphazard and very inconvenient. "Socialized" can mean that we agree to have one entity represent all of our interests in a particular set of services that we all need. It doesn't have to mean that Stalin is going to come break down your door and haul you off to Siberia. The fact that insurance companies break a profit at the end of the fiscal year in and of itself is indicatave that someone somewhere along the way is getting the short end of the stick.
Furthermore, the often relied upon mantra that private industry is always more effecient as a function of their single-minded pursuit of the bottom line is flawed in that executive pay has spiraled ever upward, representing an enormous inefficiency. - WasabiBomb, on 07/16/2009, -5/+43@centerright- wrong, actually. In our current for-profit system, the only thing that the companies care about is making more money for their shareholders. Every claim they deny, every treatment they refuse, is just more profit.
The problem in Massachusetts is that the system was set up to be used by people who couldn't afford regular insurance... but everyone else wanted the free coverage, too. The system wasn't set up to handle that many people. It's not that the system failed; it's that the system worked TOO WELL. - fandyboy, on 07/16/2009, -1/+39That's not a meme, it's just a fact.
- Crazyredivan, on 07/16/2009, -1/+39His condescending tone makes me want to reach through my speakers and strangle him.
- mxxz, on 07/16/2009, -2/+40Okay believe the Wall Street Journal not Canadians, because everybody knows American's know more about our country than we do.
- nanosec, on 07/16/2009, -5/+43This is a common refrain from Americans right wing that Canadians are dying in the streets because they have to wait. This is nonsense put out by lobbyists groups who have EVERYTHING to lose if health care is made affordable in the USA. People being financially destroyed by health care bills does not happen in Canada.
Here's an example, if there are 2 car washes, where one charges a nominal fee to get your car washed and the other charges $90,000, which one do you think is going to have a queue? If you remove the cheap one, then you're going to have people driving around in dirty cars because they cannot afford to have their car washed.
The expensive car wash can keep expanding it's equipment to no ends because it a profit making enterprise.
The reason why there are so many available MRI machines in the USA is not because you have a better health care system, it's because there's big money in running one of them. However, you have many medical centers where a large majority cannot even afford the price of admission.
As a Canadian (surprise surprise) you can feel free to tax the ***** out of me when it comes to health care, because I've never been denied treatment due to lack of funds. I'm never going to lose everything financially over medical bills.
It's with a kind of unfathomable horror that Canadians look at your health care system. We don't understand it, and this long line nonsense is a scare tactic used by the right wing and lobbyists who have vested interests in keeping things the way they are.
Whether the movie sicko was hype or not, I really felt for the people who lost their home because they couldn't afford their medical bills.
Ask yourself why you can spend X amount of dollars on unnecessary military spending, but when it comes to health care, there's all kinds of idiot reasons why you can't and shouldn't. -
