- camipco, on 09/04/2008, -52/+612I see a lot of whining about the source of the article. I don't see any disagreement with the content.
It's the same old strategy. Ignore reality, complain about the media.
The facts are simple. Palin, as mayor, hired a lobbyist to obtain $27 million in Federal earmarks.
Obama's tax cut is MORE generous than McCain's, raising the after-tax income of middle-income families by 5% compared to 3% for McCain.
The Alaska National Guard is NOT under Palin's command while deployed in actual military service, it's under Bush's command.
And "big government liberals" haven't held the presidency since 2000. The current president is Bush, and he's a Republican.
The claim that Palin opposed earmarks is inaccurate.
The claim that Obama will raise your taxes is inaccurate.
The claim that Palin has national security experience is inaccurate.
The claim that big-government liberals control Washington is inaccurate.
Those are some of the basic claims in the article. Unless you have an argument refuting them, whining about the website on which they were posted just makes you look pathetic. - bodhichitta1, on 09/04/2008, -102/+548Yay! I get to avoid facts! I'm a Republican!

It's an AP article, fools. RTFA. - arajan, on 09/04/2008, -65/+241Republicans - denizens of the up-is-down universe.
- nopRT, on 09/04/2008, -19/+178This is a pretty mild and objective list and it certainly is not complete. Politicians should be called out on their lies and deceptions regardless of their party affiliation. Please don't dismiss this one because of the domain name.
- Merb, on 09/04/2008, -24/+180How do they get away with this *****? It's absurd...they should NOT be allowed to say things that are blatantly wrong.
Someone call Mythbusters... - gubbie, on 09/04/2008, -25/+170I could feel my blood pressure rising as I watched the speeches... and I'm 19! How do they get away with such blatant lies with hateful rhetoric?
I dont know if I should watch McCain tomorrow, a girl can only take so much... - taxwoman, on 09/04/2008, -26/+158"The Truth Shall Set You Free!" The only truth of the night was that Gov Palin is a self-described pit bull with lipstick and her future son-in-law is a self-described "f*&%-in redneck." She did not even receive 1000 votes in her "executive" election for Mayor. She was mean-spirited, nasty and vicious and lied through her pearly whites. If they were going after Hillary votes or independents they failed and lost my vote as well.
- JavanSClark, on 09/04/2008, -14/+117here's a non huffpo link. I got it from http://www.ap.org/ by searching their site for it. Stop distorting the truth or hiding from it.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CVN_FACT_CH ... - Skootermarx, on 09/04/2008, -27/+113This is sent to all you Palin ravers. Especially those who write about what a super duper job she did of dis-ing Obama, telling it like it is, and other claptrap.
What she did was read from a carefully and skillfully crafted screed which a staff of dedicated McCain writers dredged from their reptilian lairs producing a litany of mean spirited ad hominum venom laden bull butter mixing with it errors of omission, hyperbole, and half-truths. With few exceptions, all these ballbuster bombs were previously screened and deflected. Must be having a short term memory problem again.
We who support the objects of Wednesday night's Republican hate-fest expected no less from her, John McCain, his staffers and those who support this kind of visceral bating. She talks -- no make that READS a good game, implies she can fight but that is precisely the point: choosing a President is not about who can present the best sound bite or best put down. That is fine for a fraternity house or a bar or a blog; but selecting a leader is a serious undertaking. Mrs. Palin can't carry the water and will find that out and much much more over the course of the next two months.
This is the beauty of America: we may oppose, even hate one another, and know the final arbiter is the voting booth. We shall see who gets the last laugh on November 5th. - lenzmom, on 09/04/2008, -16/+95I just want to muster up all the support I can for my idol Sarah Palin! If we vote her into office, we are just that much closer to the “Perfect Palin World.” Just imagine, if you can, a world without birth control or sex education. I absolutely love her abstinence only policy, it would be so moral. We would all make pledges to refrain from vaginal intercourse until we found the perfect husbands. It makes my bottom tingle just thinking about it! Sure, some of us would be tempted by the devil and cave in, but there would be no abortions, not even for rape. Isn’t it perfect? All those little surprise gifts from God populating our country and day care centers. And the best part is that Sarah would make sure that only a limited amount of our tax dollars would ever have to go towards supporting their health and child care! Sure, some children with lazy parents would suffer, but that builds character. And if by chance, one of those unwanted children turns angry and gets out of line, Sarah would have the death penalty in full swing. It’s so humane, and it would keep our society just perfect. Speaking of a perfect society, Sarah would never let homosexuals marry because that would make them feel like they are normal couples. Instead, she would fund programs that help them deny the devil, and live proper family lives with the opposite sex. Sarah Palin is one of us, a true American with solid values. Oh, but she is not just about social issues. She would support any war in order to secure resources for our rapidly growing population. That way America would stay on top forever. Being from Alaska, Sarah understands that freedom isn’t free and neither is oil. She can handle a gun or two, and she raised a soldier. Her son is entering the war in Iraq this fall. Isn’t that hot? Long live democracy!! Wars are awesome for generating patriotism. It is so cool to hang our American flags and have flag stickers on our cars. Imagine our country united by the same moral values. See everyone! We could have the “Perfect Palin World!” It all starts here. So, join me and vote for her in this upcoming election.
- AdInventive, on 09/04/2008, -16/+93The strategic difference between being an organizer and a Chief Executive is that in the first case you need to work with others and in the second, if you so choose, you do not.
As Chief Executive for a town you can simply fire everyone and hire people who will listen to you. As Chief Executive for a state you can do the same. This is easier than as Chief Executive for a company because it is harder to immediately run out of money, and with a tax hike here and an oil boom there you can say you are saving when you are in fact spending more. (and yes, these are direct Palin parallels)
Chief Executives in businesses that are not wallowing in cash (and smart ones, even in those that are) find that they need to, um, organize their people. To gather input, conceed some points and lead their people to believe in others.
We don't need another arbitrarily acting Chief Executive of this country. We need a CEO who will help us organize, who will conceed in the face of actual necessity and lead us to believe in our capacity for greater achievements.
The GOP is trying to compare Palin's experience to Obama's. The difference is Obama was picked by voters to be the presidential nominee of his party. Palin was picked, at the last minute, by a 72 year old loose cannon.
If you can't see the difference between the two then you are nuts. - JavanSClark, on 09/04/2008, -6/+72They know. They are left with whining as a final strategy.
- zip000, on 09/04/2008, -5/+69Watching the speech last night, I yelled out, "What are you talking about!?" about a dozen times.
I only watched Palin and Guiliani, but all I really heard were ridiculous and untrue attacks on Obama.
I'm just outraged that they try to portray McCain as coming in and changing things and reducing the size of government. The Republicans had control of all branches of government for 6 years, and the government got bigger not smaller. Things got worse for most people not better. McCain isn't change, unless you mean change back to the 1950s, which is what Republicans really seem to want. - Koushiro, on 09/04/2008, -8/+69"FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: 'We need change, all right _ change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington _ throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin.'
THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate."
Wow, that's a really good point. Has the republican party not noticed the fact that they were responsible for almost all of the ***** ups from 2000 to 2007? - Maizuru, on 09/04/2008, -11/+69"Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525."
I got more votes than that when I was elected President of my Students' Union. And I suppose this means I have Executive experience and am more qualified than Obama too. Why didn't McCain call me? :-( - VitriolAndAngst, on 09/04/2008, -4/+61The reason HuffPo gets featured so much here, is that when you post to their blog, they have a button that promotes it on digg -- so it's about them being organized and technically literate.
Oh, and if they are a bad source of news, it should be easy for Republicans to quote sources dismissing their stories -- I'm waiting for that to one day happen. - mario323, on 09/04/2008, -26/+82I'm glad someone pointed this out, not even Olbermann took a shot at this. This speech was a pile of lies.
- ryan69969, on 09/04/2008, -12/+68It was hard to focus on the substance of her speech. I was distracted by the endless sea of white, white people there.
- Pusod, on 09/04/2008, -21/+76The fact that she blatantly omitted saying Barrack Obamas name and only referring to him as "my opponent" shows how classless and disrespectful she is of the Democratic party. She also did not mention a peep about Joe Biden who I hope will tear her apart in the debates. I am looking forward to it.
- inactive, on 12/08/2008, -9/+63It's easy to be a "pit bull" when you're preaching to the choir. I can't wait to see her debate Biden, 'cause he will definitely call her on her s**t. Should be entertaining.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -6/+59Anyway, did you guys see Mike Huckabee? He totally bombed during republican convention. He told them he grew up poor. The silence was deafening.
- ryan69969, on 09/04/2008, -17/+61Palin: "I ain't straight outta Compton. I'm straight outta tha trailer."

- nedzeve, on 09/04/2008, -1/+41Javan, not whining, the GOP has resorted to just downright lying apparently...
- childofdalight, on 09/04/2008, -8/+48WOW
do Hilary supporters realize this woman completely is
against everything senator Clinton stands for?
will they sacrifice their democratic beliefs and integrity just for this woman who cant stand in a room with Hilary?
if its about a woman aren't there plenty of republican women more qualified for this position.
( she was a beauty pageant runner up for Christ sake ) - JavanSClark, on 09/04/2008, -5/+44"If big government doesn't control washington, then how has government expanded over the last 16 years(a favorite donkey talking point)...?"
Ask G Dubya and the Republicans.. The dems have only had control since Jan of last year. The damage we see and the expansion of Govt happened on your watch.
New name for you: Craftsman, you make the best tool, after someone breaks you off, you continue to do you "job". - JavanSClark, on 09/04/2008, -12/+49Lol. It's an AP article. A news organization that has slanted much more to the conservative side in this election than liberal. You bridge is calling you troll, plz crawl back under it.
- Skootermarx, on 09/04/2008, -5/+41nopRT: they are called out on their lies. We vote them out. That tends to ruin the best of days.
Keep the faith. Talk to one other person each day. Let her or him know you really care about the direction we are headed. It is our country and our government not the candidates. All politicians lie but that doesn't mean we have to nor does it mean we should summarily dismiss them.
"To tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of the world." - VitriolAndAngst, on 09/04/2008, -14/+49Well, I'd say that she wasn't hampered by the truth.
Unbelievable, she accused Obama of being McCain. I was about to wretch with Mr. Keating 5, who nearly has his entire team comprised of lobbyists, described as a champion fighting against special interests.
McCain's major funders are fortune 500 corps. And while nobody is perfectly clean, Obama's main funding is from small donors. Big difference. - lopla, on 09/04/2008, -10/+44The scandals keep rolling in. The National Enquirer Palin/X-Biz Partner affair will be the straw that breaks the old man's back. I suspect in a few days McCain will be found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound when that story hits. Slumped over in his straight talk express, a pistol on the floor and the National Enquirer in his limp hand. It's a real shame. I would have voted for the McCain of 2000, where did he go? He lost his way, sold out. His only way out of this cesspool is going to be tragic..
- Trigonometron, on 09/04/2008, -9/+42"Associated Press Writer Jim Drinkard in Washington contributed to this report."
in other words, not a huffington post story. - mochaman, on 09/04/2008, -5/+38in spite of her vajaja ploy, she was hired to be McCain's attack dog. Now that the gloves are off, the Obama camp has to go after this chihuaha and kick her in the ass. I'm sure when this happens they'll pulled the sexist card but please show no mercy.
- booksnmore4you, on 09/04/2008, -26/+57Er, this article is an AP article. Like every other news org in the world, HuffPo runs AP articles. DUH!
- Cuchanu, on 09/04/2008, -9/+39You know what really bugs me about the fact avoiding republicans (Ron Paul aside, I don't agree with him on everything but he isn't full of *****), it's how they keep defending her lack of experience by saying things she's done that neither Obama or Biden have done. "She has more executive experience than the entire dem. ticket COMBINED!" What executive experience does McCain have? Was he in charge of the cockroaches in his mud hut in Vietnam? Or in charge of setting the table before dinner? Oh, wait he didn't have a kitchen table.
- Mialunna, on 09/04/2008, -3/+31
The speech was written by Matthew Scully, who met Palin for the first time last week. If you think she is so great.Think about how long have you known she exist.... Please
news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080904/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin&printer=1 - aitoaster, on 09/04/2008, -12/+39Pfft. Is this what you cons are really going with? Palin? Wow talk about desperate. Unreal. You go with that GOP.
- Niallgriff, on 09/04/2008, -11/+38If you want more pointless wars. Sweet
If you want to believe someone with 20 months experience at any level (Fine, Obama was inexperienced, but he was a state senator for 8 years and US Senator for about 2.5 years, He is still more experienced, a better leader a better motivator a better orator; than anyone who has been president since Kennedy, possibly even going Back to Truman or FDR, IF you want to let stupid party politics get in the way of making this country work, ***** fine with me. When Gas Costs $20.00 a gallon and a pound of beef is $10, I know that I will hear dissent. But that's fine with me, I can rest assured that I supported Obama in 08 and I also fully supported T Boone. Pickens (oil tycoon, btw) in saying this all was preventable. But go ahead, step in ***** line with a party (dem or repub), at that moment, you're a ***** idiot and it doesn't matter what you think anymore. Pick what is best for your country. If some weird loyalty prevents that; then your're a pussy who won't stand for what he believes in, and if that's the case, I don't want to hear any bitching over the next 4 years. (Though if Mccain wins, it may somehow, surpass the sheer horror that was Reagan, Bush and Bush). Sleep well and all the best,
America; ***** YEAH - Ragzouken, on 09/04/2008, -1/+27If you're going to bury satire, at least understand humor.
Buried. - Cuchanu, on 09/04/2008, -2/+28elTito maybe you didn't get my point: I'll give you the short version. Obama, Biden, and MCCAIN don't have executive experience. End of story. So they are saying she has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined, while ignoring the fact that McCain has none as well. That's easy enough to understand.
- Berkana, on 09/04/2008, -6/+32The Inuits would be insulted.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+27"It's clear that Palin is still rough around the edges"
Translated from Right Wingese: "uh, we can see she's a trainwreck, but we're still gonna do everything we can to talk her up, cos we're ***** desperate!" - Merb, on 09/04/2008, -18/+42he's calling you a ***** because that's what you are--an ignorant *****
- browntiger, on 09/04/2008, -9/+33Funny part her "executive" experience is it in running 670k people for 1.5 year or is it been mayor of northern exposure town 5400.
Republican mantra: If you don't like truth - lie lie lie. - JavanSClark, on 09/04/2008, -9/+30By lying? Well, we know just how much you care about the truth. None of you ever seem too.. I wonder why..?
- booksnmore4you, on 09/04/2008, -19/+40Er, it's an AP article. DUH!
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -3/+24Every day is opposite day!
- nihilville, on 09/04/2008, -11/+31JavanSClark is right, the Associated Press has been so deep in Republican's pockets, the McCain campaign offered their Washington Bureau chief a job... But I guess he felt he could be serving them better by sticking with his current position (this is the same guy that sent Karl Rove an email during the 2004 election thanking him for doing "God's work"... Why he's still employed by any news organization claiming to be unbiased is beyond me).
Point is, when even the AP is saying the Republican's lies are beyond obvious, you know that a serious line has been crossed in the realm of reality and human decency.
Not that the American people expect much better from conservatives anymore anyway. - hollywoodphony, on 09/04/2008, -1/+21Why are you so angry? Seriously, what's the point of that?
- Koushiro, on 09/04/2008, -3/+23We live in a digital age, there is no reason these kinds of speeches should be allowed to pass by the general population by anyone, especially people running for a public office.
