- fallen1004, on 06/05/2008, -8/+440You can't claim copyright protection on something that is newsworthy.
See INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE v. ASSOCIATED PRESS , 248 U.S. 215 (1918)
"But the news element-the information respecting current events contained in the literary production-is not the creation of the writer, but is a report of matters that ordinarily are publici juris; it is the history of the day. It is not to be supposed that the framers of the Constitution, when they empowered Congress 'to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries' (Const. art. 1, 8, par. 8), intended to confer upon one who might happen to be the first to report a historic event the exclusive right for any period to spread the knowledge of it." - shunterender, on 06/05/2008, -16/+322All of the debates are going to be Kennedy vs. Nixon all over again, and very few people are going to be listening on the radio. The McCain camp is trying to get ahead of the fact that McCain can't stand up rhetorically to Obama. His website has no links to videos of speeches, just the texts, while Obama's site has videos of every major speech he has given (including Tuesday Night's).
- fishbeef33, on 06/06/2008, -7/+256Won't SOMEONE think of the dehydrated babies???!!!
- bluechips23, on 06/05/2008, -9/+226Why don't we make a zillion copies of that video and post it in every social networking website possible and embarrass the ***** out of that old senile man?
- ThomasMifflin, on 06/05/2008, -9/+192How can they pull stuff when most of the stuff is carried over the networks?
- BallJoint, on 06/06/2008, -12/+169But then how will babies get there bottle hot water?
- Diggrock, on 06/06/2008, -5/+101Also in his agenda: delivering hot water to dehydrated babies.
- lordtyros, on 06/06/2008, -1/+87I love how an apostrophe online means "OH *****, HERE COMES AN 'S'!"
- GhostWithToast, on 06/06/2008, -2/+86Ask the CoS how that plan worked out for them.
- cumbuster, on 06/06/2008, -2/+80Things you put on the internet can be removed later? WTF?
- junkwheel, on 06/06/2008, -2/+78The McCain campaign has declared war on the internets!
The internets must, and will, prevail.
Do your part today by downloading and reuploading! - s4g4n, on 06/06/2008, -0/+76McCain will be the new Rick Roll on youtube.
- rebotfc, on 06/05/2008, -7/+68Obviously-remixed videos are Parody and as such should be protected under free speech.
- Mohdoo, on 06/06/2008, -2/+59Mccain vs the internet? You have plenty of battles to lose Mccain, don't worry yourself with this one.
- chrissku, on 06/06/2008, -10/+66Thank you for clearly defining yourself as a complete tool early on in the campaign John. You made my decision easy.
Obama 08 - bubba9999, on 06/06/2008, -6/+59All Aboard The Censorship Express!
- bxblox, on 06/06/2008, -3/+55"And that's not change you can believe in"... *awkward grin*
- Hegemony, on 06/06/2008, -2/+53ZOMG! My baby is dehydrated! If only John McCain was here with some bottled hot water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
- h4mx0r, on 06/06/2008, -3/+43*their*
- fr0ng, on 06/06/2008, -5/+44Those who are saying that McCain will not be 4 more years of Bush should be eating their words. With extra ownage on the side.

You can download a copy for the green screen challenge. They have already greened out the background so you can stick in whatever you want. - aliengoods, on 06/05/2008, -3/+41These types of clips have already been floating around about Obama and noone gave a *****.
- tinkafoo, on 06/06/2008, -0/+33The "dehydrated babies" video is still up! Get it while you can!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DqR7zis99I - erikmarcus, on 06/06/2008, -1/+33I don't think your comparison is fair...to Nixon!
Say what you want about Nixon -- he obviously was no match for Kennedy on TV. But I think the distance in oratory ability between Obama and McCain is far greater than the distance between Kennedy and Nixon.
So I totally agree with your analysis, even if I think it minimizes the true ugliness of the situation. The upcoming presidential debates are going to be a train wreck for the republicans, and an ass-whooping not seen since Tyson/Spinks. - aliengoods, on 06/05/2008, -2/+33CORRECT!
Also, Parody != Libel. It's very hard to prove libel, especially when you're a public figure. McCain would have to prove you knew what you said was false AND prove that is caused him harm. Just because his feelings were hurt doesn't mean you're guilty of libel. - Drkgodess, on 06/06/2008, -2/+32^This...***** CENSORSHIP!
- mechnoch, on 06/05/2008, -3/+32Wait for McCain's campaign to go negative. Then will be the time to strike with a viral social networking campaign exposing his 'senility and oldness' lol. Until then, hold the line, and just let McCain embarass himself for a while. It's still possible that this could be a fairly civil election. I know Obama will try to keep it so. But Obama supporters should not be afraid to get their hands dirty online if McCain goes negative and things start to get ugly.
- Vindicoth, on 06/05/2008, -8/+36Ahh.. and the game begins.
- wendelgee2, on 06/06/2008, -4/+30Go look up rhetoric, then post on Digg. Not the other way around.
- Hermmunster, on 06/06/2008, -0/+25There's no legal claim to copyright from a publicly elected figure. It's all part of the public record, and hence has no copyright protection.
- babar77, on 06/06/2008, -2/+27More importantly, how can anyone claim copyright over a public official's public words? We pay that man's salary.
- SillyDigger, on 06/06/2008, -0/+21Are what?
- Laminarcissus, on 06/06/2008, -2/+23But that is the point, K v. N was a turning point, and political advisers have learned a lot since then.
We'll get two debates tops out of McCain's people, and they'll make sure that as long as he does better than Stephen Hawking then people will be impressed.
The real challenge will be whether Obama's people will have figured out a way for him to get his message out without seeming smug, glib, and yes, this is still an issue to many people in this country, disrespectful to someone who is his elder even though he disagrees with him.
We all know Obama has the capability to technically annihilate McCain, I hope he can hold back and do it right. The way he handled things with Hillary I think he probably can. - Laminarcissus, on 06/06/2008, -3/+23But is it even happening? The article itself ends:
-- "I know this happens a lot anyway however, there seems to be a major effort for videos related to this last speech he made. Am I crazy or can anyone else back me up?" --
Even he doesn't have any backup. This is an impression. Yet with a single post to Digg it's magically laundered into fact?
Read my history -- I'm a long-time advocate of Obama, and in that light I really don't want the campaign to be turned into another Ron Paul populist mob.
Obama has run his campaign from the start as thoughtful, respectful, and centered on the issues. Having a swiftboat crew running around, even if well-intentioned, DOES NOT help. - redrighthand, on 06/05/2008, -9/+29hey they have a free bumper sticker link-
http://www.democraticstuff.com/ProductDetails.asp? ... - wilhoitm, on 06/06/2008, -3/+22And that's change, you can, believe in!
- junkwheel, on 06/06/2008, -0/+18Lest we forget the 1200 videos the Obama campaign has on YouTube on their own channel.
- Br3ach, on 06/06/2008, -1/+17I always take this stuff with a giant grain of salt, but I wouldn't be surprised either. No amount of YouTube trolling will hide the coming era of Obama destroying this ***** at the podium however.
- exomni, on 06/06/2008, -1/+17Did you even see his tuesday speech? It was imbued with negativity. It was amazing the contrast between the celebration and hopefulness of Barack's speech, and the stark depressing pessimistic self-inflated egoism of McCain's speech.
- ngmcs8203, on 06/06/2008, -3/+18National Security? Really, have we not gone over this. We are no more secure now than we were before any terrorist attacks. What's today's threat alert color? Magenta? Yellow? Orange? How about we focus our efforts on something like, oh I don't know, take care of our sick? Or... gaining back some respect in the eyes of the rest of the world?
- haydesigner, on 06/06/2008, -2/+16Probably because he DOESN'T.
Nice attempt at FUD, 5urr3al5am. - ZaZ2137, on 06/06/2008, -5/+19It will be interesting to see if Anonymous takes interest in this censorship as well.
- aliengoods, on 06/05/2008, -5/+19If you think we're not going to see remixed clips of the candidates then you're out of touch.
- Steeple, on 06/06/2008, -1/+15if you piss him off he'll just start giving boiling water to starving babies again, it's the only thing that calms him down
- Gerz1219, on 06/06/2008, -2/+16The American defense industry is, per capita, the biggest recipient of entitlement programs in world history.
- MarsSentinel, on 06/06/2008, -0/+14Dehydrated babies. Perfect for camping trips and even for soldiers. Whenever you need a baby just unzip the convenient carry pouch, add water, and shake. 2 minutes later: BABY! Comes in different colors too.
- Laminarcissus, on 06/06/2008, -1/+15Aren't you just the cutest little thing I ever did see!
- YourDoom123, on 06/06/2008, -1/+14have you been asleep for the past 8 years? that's ALL we've been doing. it gets a little boring after a while.
- Jayso89, on 06/06/2008, -1/+13George Bush's staff must've given up on this ages ago...
