- Kangaroo12001, on 02/26/2009, -144/+530I thought Obama said he wasn't coming after our guns? Another BROKEN promise.
- Infowarsdotcom, on 02/26/2009, -52/+313I don't own assault rifles and I never plan on owning assault rifles but this logic is just ***** DUMB AS *****!
EVERY ***** TIME WE MAKE SOMETHING ILLEGAL WE CREATE A BLACK MARKET FOR IT!
The only reason the "cartels" exist in the first place is because of our idiotic drug war. If drugs were legal there would be no black market and thus no cartels to make millions of dollars that they use to buy weapons to protect their illegal drugs and fortunes.
The only thing that banning assault rifles will do is make it impossible for law abiding citizens to get assault rifles. Just look at the black market for guns in urban areas with high crime. Do the laws prevent criminals from getting guns? Not a ***** chance.
Not to mention Obama promised he's not going to try to take away any guns. What a crock of *****. - Kangaroo12001, on 02/26/2009, -75/+328ABC is censoring comments. ABC is removing comments to this article. I got banned and all I said was that this move would ensure Democrats losing seats like they did in 1994.
There were about 80 comments, now it is down to about 50, they keep cutting comments and like I said, ABC banned me.
Hope and Change - SpykerSpeed, on 02/26/2009, -65/+289The population of North America needs these weapons for when their government becomes insolvent.
- omgwtflawl, on 02/26/2009, -73/+271Apparently the Democrats have a crippling fear of success and decide they would like to become un-elected as soon as possible.
- Barbrady, on 02/26/2009, -93/+287What a lying sack of ***** Obama is. Pro-2nd Amendment my ass.
- ljoreilly, on 02/26/2009, -36/+167Obviously, most gun enthusiasts saw this coming during the election. All you had to do was listen to Obama during the DC gun ban judgment for the Supreme Court. For a constitutional lawyer, he sure was confused as to what would be allowed under the 2nd Amendment. First he said the law in place was constitutional, then after it was overturned he said that was the right call?
How can the guy be expected to protect the constitution when he believes any interpretation is correct? Or is that just what he says? I'm beginning to think that his word isn't worth the air it expends. - Spuy767, on 02/26/2009, -28/+158I am never surprised by a politician's broken promises. What does surprise me, is the constant insistence by the left that laws banning the ownership of an item do anything to keep it out of the hands of the lawless.
- AWBoy666, on 02/26/2009, -28/+152FTA:
"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. "Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez."
What the ***** do automatic weapons and grenades have to do with an assault weapons ban?!?! Those things are already impossible to get! A new ban wouldn't change that!
Logic escapes these pricks. - SIRBERUS, on 02/26/2009, -33/+146You know another, more effective way to help those poor Mexicans? Ending the "War on Drugs".
Not only will you help a ton of people, you bankrupt and strip power from the cartels, and you don't have to worry about the whole... constitutional right to bear arms stuff. - Rothbardosaurus, on 02/26/2009, -28/+135Is it really a gun ban if the government still gets to use whatever guns it likes on you?
How safe can our democracy/republic be if the public is completely declawed? - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -30/+130Since defining the phrase "assault rifle" seems to have become the job of folks who are typically journalists / politicians usually living in metro areas who've never so much as fired a firearm, this is fraught with peril. According to the vast majority of journalists--throughout the nation--an "assault rifle" seems to be any firearm that might be black in color or have components painted black and has the ability to fire more than one round without extensive reloading procedures, and don't forget that, if the firearm in question has ever been seen in a movie or TV show, it must be evil (excepting cowboy movies, of course). Absurd. Add to this our own predilection as a citizenry to not only enjoy but demand knee-jerk public policy and you wind up with the highly successful war on drugs, the war in Iraq, our prize-winning education system, and many other wonderful policies that drain public coffers, continue to cause internal discord, and make fools of us on the national stage. When are we going to realize that it doesn't matter whether we vote democratic or republican? It doesn't matter whether you consider yourself a liberal or a conservative; both sides have made corruption, pandering, and lowest common denominator politics the game of the day. It's sad really.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -20/+118Mexico has banned ALL FIREARMS for decades and yet the criminals don't seem to have a problem getting them.
In most cases they have better weapons than the local police and the military, it is a shame but it is the truth. - jsuther, on 02/26/2009, -40/+136***** you Gun Owner's for Obama
- Chahrlie5, on 02/26/2009, -35/+129Yes, I can see it now.
Assault weapon sales to increase 10,000% prior to ban.
Thank god he's banning assault rifle sales, now only criminals will be able to buy them.
idiot. - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -33/+118I get it now. The USA has to ban "assault weapons" because Mexico is corrupt with drug cartels and if the USA bans "assault weapons" than Mexican drug traffickers can't get a hold of them? STUIPD is as stupid does! The only people this will affect is law-abiding US citizens and NO one else. Apparently Eric Holder seems to think that the Mexican drug traffickers are not smart enough to purchase them somewhere else?
In addition Mexico is on the brink of a failed state with a civil war that is currently spilling over onto sovereign US states. The goDvernment sure as hell has DONE nothing to protect the damn citizens of the USA from this. Americans MUST be armed to the teeth at all times in the states that neighbor Mexico.
Eric Holder, the racist wind bag that he is thinks it is OK for me and my family not to be allowed to own firearms to defend ourselves against tyranny in the government and the right of self defense but he sure as hell OWNS firearms and feels he has the rights of self defense. HYPRCORISY.
Furthermore, this is for the up coming merger - the NAU! Mexico and Canada can't own guns and don't have free speech, the USA now has to conform or else.
The complete audacity of this administration is unreal! I thought the last one was bad, however I spoke too damn soon - this is the nail in the coffin.
If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy. ~ James Madison
Eric Holder and his draconian crew should be reminded of Thomas Jefferson’s words ~ “The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it."
And this! "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in Government." ~ Thomas Jefferson - buddyw, on 02/26/2009, -5/+84Assault weapons are just a specific definition for a gun with certain features. There is not really very much an assault weapon can do that a deer rifle can't. It's a talking point for people that don't know anything about guns.
Assault weapons are rarely actually used in domestic crime. Criminals prefer smaller concealable handguns. - sjl127, on 02/26/2009, -26/+103Glad I bought all I did when I did.
- kennyboy509, on 02/26/2009, -7/+80Its called "the bill of rights" NOT "the bill of needs".
- ManHammer, on 02/26/2009, -45/+117arm yourselves now ppl...
- bmcnally, on 02/26/2009, -27/+92This is part of his stimulus plan. Remember what happened right after he was elected? That's right - gun sales spiked.
- bmac1009, on 02/26/2009, -4/+69What is an 'assault weapon'. That is such a misnomer. 'Cop killing bullets' = full metal jacket = chill out.
This is the same old gradual disintegration of rights. - CCoburn3, on 02/26/2009, -38/+100A week or so ago, there was a tiny little story that didn't get an play at all in the mainstream media about some Democrat congressman putting a rider on a bill that would fund detention camps in case of civil unrest. Now we have Obama seeking to ban guns. Some of us had hoped that when the US government ran out of money, it would die a peaceful death. It appears that Obama & the Democrats have determined otherwise.
By July or August, the economy will have gotten much worse. The government will be printing money non-stop. There will be mass civil unrest. And instead of doing the decent thing like Gorbachev, Obama is determined to behave like Stalin. It's likely to be a long and bloody summer. - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -31/+91The only thing the gun grabbers will get, is the business end of mine. "All these Gun restrictions are an INFRINGEMENT OF OUR RIGHTS. Its about time we start telling these Elitist A**H**** where to go.
- Tbyrd073, on 02/26/2009, -10/+67That much is obvious by looking at his prior voting record on Guns. He was one of the worst in the Senate.
- MeatMountain, on 02/26/2009, -15/+71Assaulting things
- Rothbardosaurus, on 02/26/2009, -26/+82Americans have learned to put up with a lot. Half their income is consumed on taxes, they have to ask the nanny state for permission to do anything from starting a business to getting married. And now they'll probably lie down and take it when the feds take their guns away.
If this country were actually free, the differences you would see in crime rates, economic prosperity, happiness and welfare would quite literally BLOW YOUR MIND. - Tbyrd073, on 02/26/2009, -4/+58The Assault Weapons ban is against things that aesthetically make the gun look like an Assault weapon. Like my buddy's Mini-14 with a pistol grip and retractable stock. The mini-14 is far from an Assault Rifle but because of aesthetic changes it can be labeled as such.
- cgrickard, on 02/26/2009, -18/+71there's no statistical data, at all, showing that the last assault weapon ban lowered crime. period.
- EricMiIIer, on 07/10/2009, -13/+64Go read your second amendment
" A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
If the colonists were not allowed to posses muskets the Revolutionary War might of turned out a bit different.
Same policy holds true today. If the government is no longer capable of serving the interests of its citizens, citizens should retain the means to remove them from office.
I don't know about you but it seems pretty cut and dry to me. - dalittle, on 02/26/2009, -19/+70I believe the second amendment in the Constitution was to allow people to arm themselves and rise up against their government if they stopped representing them or became oppressive. Going up against the US military is suicide, but if there was a need to rise up against the government an assault rifle is better than a hunting rifle. With that said, the only people who will have them are probably gun nuts.
- Thuban, on 02/26/2009, -24/+75LOL He seems to be doing the most to alienate the moderates he swung into voting for him. If he keeps this up he's assured to be a one termer.
Some Avuncular advice to the left; get over your your love affair with this Anti-2nd Amendment *****. It's the reason Al I-couldn't-carry-my-own-state Gore lost. Middle America has a innate fear of a Government that looks to go after it's guns. This heavy handed leftest ***** cost the dems the house and senate in 96 and the election in 2000. Yet they have learned nothing from this. Obammy's idea of hope and change is to re-tread the Clinton Administration hope it sticks this time. - shimmyNshake, on 02/26/2009, -46/+96From my cold dead hands!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0B_UZNtEk4 - armond21, on 02/26/2009, -3/+50The term assault rifle is used to define ugly guns. Typical hunting rifles are far more powerful than an AK or AR. These rifles are used by military in a FULLY AUTOMATIC variation. All rifles sold in America are semi auto.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -52/+99Words can’t describe the outright anger I have at this very minute. The straw that broke the damn camels back. I am mad as hell and I WILL NOT take this anymore. Sorry but the last administration was bad enough and this one seems hell bent on finishing it off. And NO I did NOT vote this prick into office either. But I sure as hell did NOT vote for McCain he was no better - the same side of the same coin.
This is about as clear as one can make it.
Let's Recap--
1, The American people elect a president with a total of 42 days experience as a U S Senator from the most politically corrupt state in America whose governor is ousted from office. The President's first official act is to close Gitmo and make sure terrorist's civil rights are not violated.
2, The U.S. Congress rushes to confirm a racist black, anit-white hating Attorney General, Eric Holder, whose law firm we later find out represents seventeen Gitmo Terrorists and wants to have a conversation about race, which equates too a lecture to poor and middle class white folks about how evil and useless they are! Is currently calling for an “assault weapons” ban that really means what they say it means and that means all firearms of any kind.
3, The CIA Boss, Leon Panetta with absolutely no experience, has a daughter Linda we find out, that is a true radical, anti-American activist who is a supporter of all the Anti-American regimes in the western hemisphere.
4. We got the most corrupt female in America as Secretary of State; bought and paid for.
5. We got a Tax Cheat for Treasury Secretary who files his own taxes.
6. A Commerce Secretary nominee who withdrew due to his own corruption charges and a second nominee who withdrew due to everyone else's corruption charges.
7. A Tax cheat nominee for Chief Performance Officer who withdrew under charges.
8. A Labor Sec'y nominee who withdrew under charges of unethical conduct.
9. A Sec'y HHS nominee who withdrew under charges of cheating on his taxes.
10. The newest member of the Senate, who took Obama's seat, Burris from Illinois, under investigation now by both Dems & Republicans and may get the boot - after, of course, getting the 60 member vote on the stimulus package.
And that's just the first two weeks. But who's counting?
America is being run by the modern-day Three Stooges ~ Barry, Harry, and Nanny ~ and they are still trying to define stimulus.
Stimulus is where the government gives a smidgen of your tax dollars back to you making you feel so good about yourself [stimulated] that you want to run out to Wal-Mart and buy a new Chinese-made HDTV and go home and watch Telemundo.
And remember there are two types of people in any country:
1) Patriot - a person loyal to the Constitution that was bequeathed to them by their founding forefathers and to his fellow countrymen. A person who will spend his own wealth to preserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A person that knows WHO grants his unalienable rights and its not the government either! A person who will lay down his life to protect those liberties and the future generations that will come after him.
2) Loyalist - a person loyal to whatever corrupt regime is in office and will sell out his fellow country men for a few of life's comforts, power and small monetary gain.
You have a choice. Which one will it be? - Awspire, on 02/26/2009, -15/+61and we criticize Chinese censorship...
- haikuFU, on 02/26/2009, -8/+51Their reasoning is *****. An example they use is drug cartels using automatic weapons and grenades. Tell me how this ban would affect these. It wouldn't do a damn thing. Those things are already illegal for you to own, or in the case of automatic weapons, strictly controlled. The fact is, if they are getting these things from the US, then they are already illegally on the street.
This so called assault weapon ban does nothing. Few crimes are even committed with the types of guns that it bans. Most crimes are committed with weapons stolen in burglaries from people's homes. If you want to make the largest dent in gun related crimes ever, just make it a federal requirement that everyone's guns must be stored in a safe that meets certain minimum requirements and that it's bolted to the floor. It's not going to keep anyone with enough determination out, but it's going to thwart most gun thefts, which ultimately end up in the hands of criminals on the street.
I have a ***** of guns. I keep them in a big thick walled safe which is bolted into a concrete floor for three reasons:
- I don't want my kids playing with them
- I don't want them stolen and ending up on the street
- I don't want an intruder to gain access to them before I can and use them against me.
These bans on guns themselves do nothing but drive up the price of guns for those of us who abide by the law. They don't reduce crime at all. And tell me exactly how banning magazines over 10 rounds reduces crime? High cap clips were available everywhere before the last ban expired. And even if you didn't have them, you could walk into gander mountain and pick up a ton of 10 round mags.
These laws are ridiculous. Why not just look at the data that supports the fact that most guns used in crimes are stolen, and pass a law that makes us keep our guns in safes? - mcquitty, on 02/26/2009, -3/+45I thought about posting this there:
Did anyone miss this part:
"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. "Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez."
So, automatic weapons have required a class 3 firearms license since the 1930s.
What store can you get grenades at?
Am I missing something? They are talking about an assault weapon ban, but the weapons they are dealing with are under license today. - UtahApocalyse, on 02/26/2009, -8/+49wow last time I remember them doing this was about Ron Paul
- mustang460, on 02/26/2009, -3/+43The only difference between an assault rifle and a hunting rifle is the appearance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysf8x477c30
Educate yourself on what the so called "assault rifles" are.
This ban is for semi automatic rifles that work just like any hunting rifle, except they appear like dangerous fully automatic military weapons.
These weapons are purchased by enthusiasts who enjoy collecting or range shooting with them.
They are also among the worst, most ineffective choices at committing crimes.
@isiz
ak47's are excellent hunting rifles, I really doubt you know anything about hunting, or know any hunters with that statement.
ak47's and ar-15's are two very popular choices for open sight hunting.
Assault rifle is a term incorrectly used to manipulate the ignorant, this ban does NOT affect assault rifles. - serif69, on 02/26/2009, -26/+66To borrow a phrase: if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -7/+47I am not a BO fan. However, McCain scored a flat out F with the Gun Owners of America. He is NO better. Matter of fact Bush was not good either.
- mrpetey, on 02/26/2009, -4/+44Maybe they should check out the baseball bat I keep near the front door. I will bet them dimes to dollars I can make an "assault weapon" out of that if they come near my home.
- Tenlow, on 02/26/2009, -0/+39@swrostmore yeah, lets ban guns instead of making sure the people who buy them are not criminals. Or lets ban guns instead of beefing up border security.
Why don't we just make it illegal to take a gun to mexico? That will SURELY stop the criminals from doing it.
While we're at it, lets ban drugs. Oh, they're already banned you say? Then why is there still a drug problem? - bmac1009, on 02/26/2009, -11/+49I agree, but you gotta call them on it, then trust in voters to vote these crooks out of office. Time for term limits and/or shorter terms of office
- JeistD, on 02/26/2009, -13/+51"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades,"
Just curious...if automatic weapons and greneads are already banned in the US and the cartels are using those, how is banning assault rifles going to change anything? - groo68, on 02/26/2009, -8/+45Assault weapons have a legitimate use. you use them to kill large amounts of people. You do this when large amounts of people(i.e. an army) are trying to take your home and your rights(i.e. federal government turned dictatorship). This is the only reason the right to guns was put in the constitution.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 02/26/2009, -16/+53Don't worry. His new "Auxiliary Civilian Force" will be fully equipped with the latest military hardware! You don't need yours anymore! ... although that's faintly reminiscent of the gestapo.... IGNORE THAT! Just imagine how much safer we'll be in our fastfood stores and malls with Obama Task Force Censors watching over us with loaded M-16's and AR-22's and AA-12's. Simply give your papers to the Obama Authority, and your safety, security and freedom are again secured!
.... A bribe here and there is well worth my freedom...
Oooh! ooh! I heard one of these slaves mention something about a 2nd amendment and a thing called a consisusion or something! APPREHEND THEM! - Spuy767, on 02/26/2009, -7/+44It's probably safe to say that any weapons ban keeps some crimes from being solved. When criminals are forced to buy illegal guns, those weapons are going to be harder to trace. If, however, that same criminal can buy that gun at walmart, then perhaps he will be apprehended before he can victimize another.
- Spuy767, on 02/26/2009, -8/+45I no longer trust people to make sensible decisions.
