You are citing information from Jan/Feb-06 (on the heels of Abramoff's guilty plea). The criminal investigation by DOJ & FBI continues today - certainly, it has moved well beyond Jan/Feb. I wouldn't jump the gun on defending Reid just yet, particularly, since you don't know what additional details may have been uncovered.

The fact is both sides cover up as much as they can because both sides are equally corrupt. If the democrats can, I'm sure they will do all that is in their power to discount this. If the republicans can, I'm sure they'll do all in their power to discount any against their own. I'm so shocked? No not really. wtf... grow up kids our government is corrupted to the core.
