- JimmieFDayton, on 01/31/2008, -53/+154I'm a recently retired Gunnery Sergeant in the US Marines and I know for a fact that Senator Obama has a lot of support in the armed services. He not Ron Paul has received the most amount in contrubutions out of all the political candidates. He will make a great Commander in Chief. http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008 ...
- adr4, on 01/31/2008, -15/+86Of course the troops are going to support the candidate calling for a unified country. They're not fighting so that the dems and republicans can keep arguing with themselves in congress.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -48/+110Is that why Paul gets more money from soldiers that any other Candidate?
- GhostyBoy, on 01/31/2008, -19/+75This is just another person putting words in the troops mouths. I'm not saying Obama doesn't have support with troops, but either let them ***** speak for themselves or don't bring it up at all. It's total ***** the way the media uses them.
Here's a soldier who decided to speak out on his own:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jiFsxp5qOpM - darrenjohnson, on 01/31/2008, -14/+67I hope NONE of them are donating to a Presidential candidate. They need the money more than any candidate does. They don't get paid enough as it is!
- BabyWookie, on 01/31/2008, -15/+65CoD4 clans are not real military units though.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 01/31/2008, -27/+71What a bunch of *****. Ron Paul recieved the highest cumulative amount. How is it right to detract away from one candidates position simply because you like another? This bias must stop!
- darrenjohnson, on 01/31/2008, -61/+100President Obama. I like the sound of that!
- Tiak, on 01/31/2008, -4/+42From quick research: Paul got more in Q2 and Obama got more in Q3 from currently serving troops. Overall Paul got more in Q1-Q3 from people that were either currently serving or retired.
The numbers could be used to support the position that either has more military support, but really, none of it means very much. The most recent numbers released thus far ended in September. Both candidates have gotten the vast majority of their contributions from individuals since September. - georgemason01, on 01/31/2008, -43/+80This reminds me of something John McCain said in a past debate (paraphrasing): "I've talked to the people on the ground, and they want to stay [in Iraq]."
Ron Paul responds with the fact he has received more military donations than any other candidate (both parties).
The point is that facts are better evidence than hearsay, especially that of a second-rate ABC reporter.
Obama - Paul comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVKSfwfy0h8
Paul > Obama - harrisbradley, on 01/31/2008, -17/+52They mean Soldiers support Obama more out of all the candidate that the media doesn't deny.
- DRINKxREDxBULL, on 01/31/2008, -29/+63They clearly haven't talked to anyone from my unit.
- mbot565, on 01/31/2008, -39/+68No, they're sending money to Ron Paul & Barack Obama. Obama received the biggest amount from soliers on the democratic side & Ron Paul received the biggest amount on the republican side. Get your fact straight!!
- GhostyBoy, on 01/31/2008, -5/+29Look at all the pissed off, unrepresented, buried people on this thread and take a guess.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -7/+30RE-ELECT MAYOR GOLDIE WILSON!!! PROGRESS IS HIS MIDDLE NAME!!!!
- Raiderkid6, on 01/31/2008, -9/+31The guy asks a couple of soldiers and all of a sudden the entire military is for Obama...wow guys
- ThreeDee912, on 01/31/2008, -11/+32Because of the new algorithm, it seems like all the Ron Paul spam is gone. But now it's replaced with Obama spam. -_-
- marytnurse, on 01/31/2008, -11/+32I believe he received the highest amount in ONE DAY. I think Congressman Paul's supporters are a very energized bunch of people, and I think their motivation is great. Hijacking threads may not be the most civil way of getting your message out. You've donated all of that money. All I heard here in Iowa from Dr Paul was one radio ad throughout the whole campaign season. Maybe you should encourage HIM to make some news!! That would be very cool!!
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -5/+25We know how accurate the media is in reporting. Their words mean nothing to me. in 1983 the mass media was controlled by 50 corporation, that has now dwindled down to 5.
- AustinMandi, on 01/31/2008, -99/+118But they are sending their money to Ron Paul.
- nosecohn, on 01/31/2008, -4/+22They might consider it an investment in their future... a kind of "life insurance."
- fadeout, on 01/31/2008, -20/+38Obama is #1 in active duty donations. Google it.
- Shiftgood, on 01/31/2008, -9/+27ron paul?
- GhostyBoy, on 01/31/2008, -7/+24This doesn't represent all soldiers, but it is one who speaks volumes:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jiFsxp5qOpM - gak001, on 01/31/2008, -0/+16Commas - such an important, yet often overlooked, part of our language.
- Shiftgood, on 01/31/2008, -5/+21who is your unit for?
- Tiak, on 01/31/2008, -0/+15Actually, scratch that... The numbers are available, just nobody bothered to parse them for military contributions yet... See fec.gov if you want to help me with that, but thus far I have this:
From the Army in Q4 2007:
Paul: $29604 (from 105 people)
Obama: $23166 (from 112 people)
I still need to check navy, air force, USMC and related searches (it would be so much easier if they would just let me use a damn or!) - redsoxmb545, on 01/31/2008, -12/+26My brother-in-law is in the Air Force and he thinks Obama has no idea what he's talking about and would make a bad president.
I don't agree with him... - colonelbuckshot, on 01/31/2008, -12/+26Paul has been racking up more money from soldiers than Obama, despite being blacklisted by most of the MSM. Because Paul is the candidate who is the most serious and sincere about overhauling US foreign policy. Buried as spam.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -21/+33"What a bunch of *****. Ron Paul recieved the highest cumulative amount. How is it right to detract away from one candidates position simply because you like another? This bias must stop!"
Agreed! When are American's going to get their heads out of their ass' and see what is happening to America. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that has been consistent in what he has voted on and believes. I can honestly say I'm ashamed to be called an American. The rights all Americans have there is a responsibility to educate them selves on the issues. WAKE UP! Most American are not that far apart in what they are concerned about immigration, the economy and the war. We should have enough common sense to unite and put our elected officials feet to the fire. If they don't respond we are empowered by the US Constitutions to remove them. - sherkaner, on 01/31/2008, -1/+13I believe that was "He, not Ron paul, has received..."
- DRINKxREDxBULL, on 01/31/2008, -5/+17I can't speak for everyone, but most of us believe that 2003 is irrelevant. All that matters now is making Iraq a stable democracy, and we need to stay until the government is strong enough (which I think it is a lot closer now, thanks to the surge, then when I was there in 2005) and not a day longer.
- BabyWookie, on 01/31/2008, -8/+20Jeez! Why are you conservatives always so up-tight and defensive? This is Digg... each time any one mentions having a girlfriend, some one always makes a "blow-up dolls don't count" joke. This is not "calling you a liar" - it's just a light, humorous jab at your display of slight online arrogance: "Hey, look at me! I am soldier! I am tough! I come from a unit! I know more about this than you do!"
- Shiftgood, on 01/31/2008, -4/+16I dont doubt it at all. I think most liberals feel the war was unjust, and therefore would not fight.
being over there. do you feel that you were in the right fighting for bushs agenda? Or were you mostly fighting for your buddies?
serious question. - dood, on 01/31/2008, -2/+13You don't have to be a "liberal" to be anti-Bush and pro-Obama.
- Sogui, on 01/31/2008, -9/+20I'd vote for Obama if he won the nomination, but I LOATHE this type of logic... the worst arguments I hear are "Well that can't be right, Everyone I know is for X Y Z"
Seriously, these are anecdotes and they are one of the WORST forms of evidence for forming large generalizations. Right now the Ron Paul forums are up in arms about voter fraud in Florida... their evidence? Because the supporters saw "A ton of Ron Paul signs and supporters, at least twice as much as anyone else, yet we only got 3% of the vote! VOTER FRAUD!"
(my response to this would be most of the voters were 60+ and thus likely to be very quite and discreet about their support, thus while there might be 100 RP supporters screaming and waving, 2,000 quiet old folks passed through and made their mark, also perception bias does this to you guys) - PhillyMJS, on 01/31/2008, -2/+13In future news, soldier absentee ballots for the 2008 presidential election get accidentally misplaced and go uncounted. Film at 11.
- AMCer, on 01/31/2008, -20/+31"Every militant soldier I talked to is for Obama."
Fixed it for you... - mtjohnson, on 01/31/2008, -0/+10I'm gonna clean up this town!
- petebert, on 01/31/2008, -3/+13this story means nothing, I'm sure every candidate can find a reporter to say the same thing.
I'm actually active duty, next time I go to work I'll ask and report back if 100% of the people I work with are chanting for Obama. - JoeVet, on 01/31/2008, -4/+14How sad that Ron Paul supporters are reduced to putting out smear videos. Unfortunately all they could come up with is to splice together unrelated crap images and combine them with a great speech by Obama. Goes to show you their lack of honesty and integrity.
- insane11, on 01/31/2008, -3/+13Not gonna lie, that was one of the dumbest videos I've ever seen.
- GhostyBoy, on 01/31/2008, -12/+21They aren't trolls, dude. They are pissed off that the media completely blacked out their guy, and didn't report on his military support or the fact that he won a ton of straw polls or anything.
- BadseedJR, on 01/31/2008, -1/+10Who's a fascist? What are you even talking about?
- zephc, on 01/31/2008, -0/+9You can start by sweeping the floor.
- SauceSpot, on 01/31/2008, -4/+13i know what ron paul wants to change like no taxes, taking out the federal reserve and such. but with obama I really havent heard much what he will do other than to make things better, nothing concrete, its the how hes going to do it i want to know
- Tenetri, on 01/31/2008, -6/+15I love how all the Obama supports instantly refer to people who support Ron Paul with some sort of 12 year old insult, usually having something to do with the human male anatomy being inside an orifice an another individual, generally showing their lack of intelligence, and willingness to support the candidate with the fanciest logo.
Sorry, I can't hear you with all that Osama ***** in your mouths - mtjohnson, on 01/31/2008, -2/+11Wachouts and deserters, like Bush and Cheney, right?
- Totalchaos02, on 01/31/2008, -7/+15Where are you getting your facts? Probably just making it up I would say.
- DRINKxREDxBULL, on 01/31/2008, -9/+17Of the 150 people I was deployed with for a year, there was about 10 liberals, max.
