- donwilkerson, on 12/16/2007, -1/+26"The Journal regrets that we did not make this theme clear." No, it was clear, and 'Scooter' was one of the runner-ups..
- quez, on 12/16/2007, -0/+23You know you're a dick when a group of lawyers thinks you're too unethical to give 'Lawyer of the Year' to.
- Lane, on 12/16/2007, -0/+14oh irony that the ABA with its careful dissection of the book of law would use poor word choice in their own award.
- dunderballer, on 12/16/2007, -0/+10It is not a matter of the public not looking into the criteria of the award thoroughly enough. The title "Lawyer of the Year" implies accomplishment regardless of what they said the criteria was. Further, giving an award for the highest number of news hits is foolish. Most of us have been alive for this whole year and have seen the news; we don't need the news makers pointed out again.
- thebellmaster1x, on 12/16/2007, -1/+10At least she could recall it, Spaza.
At least she could recall it. - EntropyMan, on 12/16/2007, -0/+8Exactly. It was much clearer the first time, except it's pronounced "Liar of the Year."
Lawyers have strange dialects, that's all. - inactive, on 12/16/2007, -0/+7I do believe you've fallen into the wrong target audience, but its nice to see your age group around ^_^
- lhbaker, on 12/16/2007, -0/+6While they're at it, instead of giving him a plaque, they should award him the severed head of his favorite race horse.
- samthurston, on 12/16/2007, -0/+5Wow.. how's the kool-aid taste? EVERYONE saw the photo with the mp5-toting INS officer facing elian (and his uncle?) in the closet. I don't know which MSM you're watching, but I have a feeling it's not the same ones that I've seen repeatedly downplay republican scandal after scandal over the last 7 years (CNN, Fox, Washington Post, NYT, heck even NPR is starting to parrot GOP talking points).
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -2/+7I tried to get into law school, but I passed the ethics test, so I was rejected.
- ShugNinx21, on 12/16/2007, -0/+4For some strange reason I read the title as [ABBA changes Gonzales' award to 'Newsmaker of the Year'] and was like WTF.
- capiCrimm, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3I suppose you objected to Hitler being Man of the Year too? You Douchebag.
- lightningrod220, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3The story is here: http://www.abajournal.com/magazine/newsmakers_of_t ...
- darkciti2, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2I love it !!! As the corrupt Republican walls come crashing down... heh.
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2The study of history is ageless and young fool or old, those that ignore it's lessons are doomed to repeat them.
- thesparrowband, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2i looked it up. it was hitler.
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Meanwhile, child molesters once again thank the ABA for elevating them out of the 9th ring of hell.
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -2/+4Even god wouldn't touch that man with a 6' stick
- samthurston, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2so you suppose he'll be elected chancellor, invade mexico and canada, and start rounding up mexicans and lawyers for extermination?
- hades8408, on 12/16/2007, -3/+5Who remembers Time Magazines man of the year in 1939. Maybe this is just a little foreshadowing
- Izult, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2What i find funny is they all like "oh no no that's not what we meant!!" They know he's a joke of a lawyer.
- yournightmare, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Not poor word choice. Well, I guess it was poor word choice considering how many people were too stupid to understand. At least the ABA is good at dumbing things down so the masses can understand it.
- lar3ry, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2If you think this is simply a PR nightmare, you are drinking the Kool-Ade. It's a crisis of trust.
It will be a long time before any country will trust us again. This administration has squandered 80 years of good will. - inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1Really?
Far worse than the highest lawyer in the land, the one who is supposed to work for the People of the US of A, being a liar and partisan tool?
Your total lack of moral or ethical understanding is revolting. - rcook18, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Inuendo? Hahahahahahahahahaha you are one funny guy.
- Observant1, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1screw the American Bar Association anyway. what do they value more than LAW? parliamentary proceedure! the US doesnt HAVE a parliament, and if there were any such thing as justice, traitors in DC would be on trial.. instead they give their biggest criminals friggin awards !!
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1 .
- rcook18, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Perhaps Alberto will find God in prison.
- yournightmare, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1If you didn't get why they named Gonzales "Lawyer of the Year," it's your own damn fault. Don't blame the ABA because you are a dummy. And even if it didn't just click right away, you should have been able to easily figure it out by saying to yourself "hmm, the ABA is a pretty liberal organization and Gonzales is pretty much a rights-trampling, lying neocon" and been able to figure it out.
- MrHappy123, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1aren't you lucky Digg didn't ruin your formatting... you lucky cookie
- AzureRise, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2God has informed us that he was drunk when he made Alberto, and regrets that mistake. He was not aborted in time.
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2And you're clueless. Go play on the freeway.
- treas, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1ROFL
- jkbowman, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1This has to make Gonzales feel like *****..
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1Good point, the media is often just a tool of a tyrant's ambitions and nothing conveyed by the media can ever be taken as true without proof.
The best defense I can find for this unfortunate choice is, popularity is a poor measure of intentions.
http://www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,19390102,0 ... - mrjit, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1You had to look it up? I knew as soon as I saw the date, and I've never heard of Hitler being on Time until now.
- skews13, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1there's to much confusion
- SLockhart, on 12/16/2007, -0/+0It was 1938
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -0/+0Yes, really.
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -2/+2How could the ABA sponsor him as lawyer of the year, if anyone is troubled by the precedents set by this Bush Administration, it's lawyers. Torture and Rendition issues should be non-issues yet they're played out in the media now because this administration has pussyfooted around the issue. Outside the United States we are wild animals, inside the U.S., our legal system will eventually remedy this public relations nightmare.
- yournightmare, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1"The title "Lawyer of the Year" implies accomplishment regardless of what they said the criteria was."
--No it doesn't. That's just what you assume it means. Stalin was Man of the Year TWICE, Hitler was Man of the Year, Ayatullah Khomeini was Man of the Year. In fact, MOST people understand what "Person of the Year" awards really mean, and that's it's not always the nicest/best person. - DiogenesJr, on 12/16/2007, -5/+5And the life-time achievement award for burning people to death and forcibly deporting a 6 year old at gun point is being awarded to Janet Reno as well...
- SLockhart, on 12/16/2007, -0/+0Yeah, except it was 1938 not '39
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -2/+0Geez, this is NOT a defense of Gonzales. It's just an attempt to put things into perspective. There are lawyers out there who have done far worse things than Gonzales. Please.
- MrHappy123, on 12/16/2007, -7/+1you fail at life
- blapbloopblop, on 12/16/2007, -9/+2god bless alberto gonzalez

COOKIES ON DOWELS! - inactive, on 12/16/2007, -10/+0Actually the MSM removed the gun from the pictures of Elians' arrest. Wouldn't want the Demorats to look bad. Wonder if Hillary will use the same precedent when faced with reuniting children of Illegals with their parents???
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -24/+2No, I think that Lynn Stewart, the leftwing radical layer who helped Islamic terrorists in jail communicate with their friends, should take the award.
She did more damage than Gonzales ever thought about doing...and what she did was concrete, not inuendo.
