Oh, well then you're just stupid. - InfamousAtheist, on 10/12/2007, -12/+82@Viper,
I'll just go ahead and quote the article, perhaps that will be explanation enough:
"Cheney has long contended that the U.S. invasion of Iraq four years ago this month was justified in part because of suspected ties between Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda.
But a 148-page report released by the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee in September showed that U.S. intelligence agencies disagreed with Bush administration claims of links between Hussein and al Qaeda."
Our objection, in summary, is that this man lies to Americans over and over, on this and many other topics, and we're ***** sick of it. He deserves to be in prison, and I suspect that he may end up there one day if his heart doesn't implode before the investigations (yes, they will happen) are complete.
Is that enough, or would you like me to draw you a picture? - stan205, on 10/12/2007, -17/+75@Viperdaimao

But Cheney is still "REPEATING" the lie that the war in Iraq is the central front in the worldwide U.S. response to the Sept. 11 attacks.
“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over”
Joseph Goebbels
“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it”
Adolf Hitler
“See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

ROFL, that's worth an add to the friend list dude.
@Gradient,
Allow me to rebut your somewhat condescending argument as posted:
"OK, here's how history works: In the past, you can believe things that in the present, you might find out are false. You get that genious? Cheney can say, and believe (without lying), that there is a connection between Sadam and AQ. Then, after the invasion, we find out we were wrong. See how that works? He said something that wasn't true, which we though was true (at the time), and later (in September, several years later) found out we were wrong. Is that simple enough for you to understand. My seven year old neice can probably get that, but I'm betting you can't."
I argue that:
1. Your argument holds no water - if Cheney believed it to be true THEN, but we've since learned that he WAS WRONG, then you have basically made my point for me. We know he was wrong, he should realize it, but instead continues to spew *****.
2. Cheney never believed his statements to be true, given what's been revealed about his "intelligence" handling since then.
3. Your tone reveals what a holier-than-thou ***** you are and since you see fit to treat me like some kind of imbecile, I have no problem calling you a ***** twit who is so wrapped up with partisan ***** that you refuse to accept the truth for what it is and are doing your best to bring about the downfall of the USA. Continue to spout your moronic acceptance of propaganda and you deserve whatever you get, *****.
Oh, and next time you try to insult someone by calling them a "genious" (sic), you might want to check the spelling. Moron. - Saiing, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25@gradient01
>And, as the man [Cheney] says, "Iraq's relevance to the war on terror simply could not be more plain", but he
>forgot to add in the part about "unless you post on Digg, in which case the plain escapes you entirely".
No, what Dick forgot to add was this: "the reason it's *now* part of the war on terror is because me and my buddies Don and Dubya went in and started ***** with someone elses country to get our hands on their oil, which pissed them off and so now they hate us and want to kill us. But hey, my friends at Halliburton got rich out of it, so that's just fine by us.

They found no link because Saddam would have nothing to do with Al Qaeda. Not all the loonies work together. Of course, to the (largely) uneducated American public, all that had to be done was name another psychotic dictator next to those who caused 9/11 to get their support. Good point. I'm fairly conservative--I don't like abortion, I think federal government should be limited, borders need securing, affirmative action is racism, I think the environment needs protecting (that was conservative 40 years ago), and I think that we need to be less PC and more realistic in everyday life.

We have had bipartisan congressional statements saying that this is credible, and absolutely confirming it. So this is not taking something that is unknown. 1. "In no manner did Cheney EVER link Iraq to 9/11. This article is just ridiculous and there will be many users on here that will read the article and accept this crap at face value without doing any real critical thinking or investigating. "
Why did you leave off the following paragraphs before your quotes that DIRECTLY link the war to 9/11?
"It's always the case in wartime that the heaviest duties fall on the men and women of the military. The ones doing the fighting never lose their focus on their mission or on what is at stake in this war, and neither should the rest of us. Five-and-a-half years have passed since the attacks of September 11, 2001, and the loss that morning of nearly 3,000 Americans inside the United States. As we get farther away from 9/11, I believe there's a temptation to forget the urgency of the task that came to us that day and the comprehensive approach that's required to protect this country against an enemy that moves and acts on multiple fronts. In fact, five-and-a-half years into the struggle, we find ourselves having to confront a series of myths about the war on terror, myths that are often repeated and deserve to be refuted. The most common myth is that Iraq has nothing to do with the global war on terror."
2. "Cheney recognizes the other side: 'The most common myth is that Iraq has nothing to do with the global war on terror.'"
There is no such myth. The 'other side' knows that Iraq has everything to do with exacerbating the war on terror.
3. "Opponents of our military action there have called Iraq a diversion from the real conflict, a distraction from the business of fighting and defeating bin Laden and the al Qaeda network. We hear this over and over again, not as an argument but as an assertion meant to close off argument."
So he's saying the military in Iraq has not distracted from defeating bin Laden and al Qaeda. Then, cool, since Iraq is not actually a distraction we should have both those done in no time since there's so many resources being applied to those two goals that he repeatedly tells us are the most important goals of the military.
4. Then he goes on to say that Bin Laden himself wants Iraq to be the focal point for the jihad.
Yes, Bin Laden wants the focal point for the jihad to be in Iraq because he knows that if we waste our resources there, then we just earn ill will in the region and his chances of getting caught are massively reduced.
5. "Yet the critics conveniently disregard the words of bin Laden himself. The most serious issue today for the whole world, he has said, is this third world war that is raging in Iraq. He calls it a destiny between infidelity and Islam. He said the whole world is watching this war and that it will end in victory and glory or misery and humiliation. And in words directed at the American people, bin Laden declares, "The war is for you or for us to win. If we win it, it means your defeat and disgrace forever.""
So Cheney is now getting his advice from bin Laden who says that if the U.S. 'wins' in Iraq that they will have the glory. Does Cheney really think that just because bin Laden says one side will win and one will lose that a win means that the entire region will fill with peace, love and democracy and that bin Laden and al Qaeda will just give up without a fight and global terror will just disappear? If so, he must also believe that all other countries in the region will just accept that we have permanent military there and will make zero effort to get us out and the 100s of thousands of people that have had family members disfigured and lost loved ones that will just unanimously forgive us and decide to never seek revenge.
6. Cheney's main point of this speech was to clarify the importance of standing strong in Iraq because the terrorists are hoping we fail.
Oh, now it all makes sense. The point of the war is not in fact to fight terrorists themselves, we're just doing it to prove to them that we won't fail. - ThisBlows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well that's a greater gift for articulation than his "boss"
- davesbrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@gradient01
OK, let us then apply your tactics, if we shall. Why don't you prove that Mr. Cheney has always told the truth? Prove that he has not benefited financially from the prolonged involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq vis a vis his ties with Halliburton? Demonstrate to me clearly that he has been an upright, moral, ethical, and truthful human being all along. I can take the wonderful conservative tactic as well, give me proof that is verifiable and corroborated in the legitimate press.
And how about hunting without a license in Texas, involving alcohol and the accidental shooting of another person, for which he was never questioned by the police. Instead of answering for what happened, he hoped into his jet a sped back to Washington D.C. This is the Vice President of the United States and he just left. What a friend. Try this, go out and follow in your heroes footsteps and see how quickly you wind up in jail.
You want pure hatred without reason, and I cannot give you that because the reasons I gave you are the reasons why I despise him. If you fail to see this in him that is your delusion and not mine. I see him for what he is, and you do not. Where you see in me hate without reason, I see in you devotion without conscience. - CedEx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5And because of these lies, the American government is putting young men and women into situations like the pics below show.

Douglas Fieth was put in charge of the Office of Special Plans, the office that was responsible for most of the "intelligence" about Sadam Hussien having WMD's.
