I did not say the buildings fell AT freefall speed. I said they fell EXTREMELY CLOSE TO freefall speed.
I understand that you have a job to do, but at least make some kind of effort to address the actual points I made. I have to point out this one tiny thing just to do you a huge favor and save you the embarrassment of running in the face of not only basic scientific principles but general common sense. All materials weaken with increasing temperature and steel is no exception. Structural steel begins to lose strength at about 300ºC. By 550ºC steel has only 50% of its load bearing strength. By 1000ºC steel only has 10% of its strength. Please note the steel is still far from melting at these temperatures. It will only melt at over 1500ºC. A camp fire runs at about 500-1000ºC (depending on the type of wood) so you can test this theory out yourself. Get a solid inch-thick steel bar, heat it over a camp fire (over bright yellow or orange flames) and you will notice after only a few minutes that you can bend it far easier than when it is cold. Blacksmiths have used this technique for sheesh, I don't know ... a century.

This investigation was carried out by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and lead the significant changes in building requirements.

Molten Metal = Aluminum. It melts at 600°C, which is the temperature the fires at ground zero were burning at. The WTC facades were made of aluminum, and so were the planes that impacted them.
Free Fall = The World Trade Center towers did not fall at free fall speed. If you watch the video of the collapse there is debris from the tower falling significantly faster than the building. The first debris hit the ground 9 seconds after the collapse of WTC2 (free fall), with the actual building's collapse finishing about 3 seconds later.
This debris is falling at free fall speed. Note the fact that it is falling faster than the building.
