- SheilaNoya, on 06/22/2008, -48/+358After 8 years of George W. Bush, most Americans wouldn't care if our next president was green with purple spots, as long as he represented CHANGE.
- livefree12, on 06/22/2008, -24/+221It's not because he's Black that people will vote for him
- The_Wallbanger, on 06/22/2008, -20/+206The 10% that aren't comfortable with a black president would have voted Republican anyways.
- walkea1, on 06/22/2008, -15/+137only 90 percent? Goddamnit.
- BabushkaBlue, on 06/22/2008, -20/+135He's not a war criminal, a war monger, or a corporate whore so I'm voting for him. The color of his skin is the least of our concerns.
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -17/+127Woah, hold on. Obama is BLACK?!
- wonderchemist, on 06/22/2008, -5/+109But I draw the line at flying purple people eaters.
- ivan423, on 06/22/2008, -1/+92I am a flying purple people eater, and I find this comment offensive.
- plarp, on 06/22/2008, -5/+72the media never asks how many blacks are comfortable with a white president.
- DieselGrunge, on 06/22/2008, -10/+59Digg is a huffington post mirror.
- trotskyist, on 06/22/2008, -12/+54Unfortunately, 10% is still millions of people.
- whataboutdave, on 06/22/2008, -8/+49What people respond is polls isn't always accurate. Just sayin'.
- miriv365, on 06/22/2008, -3/+43Bradley Effect?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_effect - Jackson0909, on 06/22/2008, -9/+48There we go. The generic rant of "change".
- vault, on 06/22/2008, -9/+47No you should be discussing his platform, not just referring to a vague abstraction like 'change.'
By the way, speaking of change:
1) Obama's health plan leaves intact the for-profit health insurance industry.
2) Obama opposes gay marriage.
3) Obama will not legalize marijuana for recreational purposes.
4) Obama's Iraq plan is subject to changing conditions on the ground, and the withdrawl plan he touts was admitted to only be a best case scenario in the Samantha Power interview, and then AGAIN with Colin Kahl.
5) He's proposing several hundred billion in new spending, and his tax cuts don't match a cut in spending (which is Bush's problem as well).
6) He supports the FISA legislation and will vote accordingly even with telecom immunity.
So what change exactly are you guys talking about? I'm not trolling you, I'm genuinely curious what exactly people think is going to change. - AmericanElitist, on 06/22/2008, -16/+54Watch the American News Project's recent piece exploring the phenomenon of "white nationalism": FASCINATING
what is always interesting to me, and I have had quite a few arguments with white racists (I am white myself) is that the base of their argument is that they fear a world that in the future is not majority white. First, they always over exaggerate how soon that could happen and who knows what could happen in the thousands of years before that did, but second - who cares? Even if you care about being the majority now, what does it matter generations from now. Cali was American Indian before it was Mexican before it was white and if its Mexican in another 100 years so what?
Also, in the video, that racist who portrays himself as intellectual, says that he fears America losing it's European values. Obviously he knows nothing about Europe. - DaHuuuuuudge, on 06/22/2008, -1/+35Are you a people eater that is purple and flies, or are you just an eater of flying, purple people?
- DaDrake, on 06/22/2008, -6/+39And 92% of blacks (13% of the population) are voting for him overwhelmingly.... many because he is black. So it balances out.
- DaDrake, on 06/22/2008, -9/+38and people voting against him aren't doing so because he is black.
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -8/+37As if people think that as soon as he's inaugurated he'll start break dancing, change the national anthem to Atomic Dog and turn Air Force One into Soul Plane.
Wait...that would be awesome. - juliehardman, on 06/22/2008, -10/+38Columbus, Ohio has a black mayor and guess what the world did not end! Barack is half white anyway and who gives a rats ass what color your skin is if you are a good leader.
- mixomatosys, on 06/22/2008, -7/+32it's articles like this that just fuel separation of races. why do we even need to point this crap out? why can't we just look at him as a HUMAN BEING and say oh we're comfortable with him being president because of his ideas and where he stands. not because of the goddamn color of his skin.
- badjoke, on 06/22/2008, -3/+26Yeah. Let's not get out of hand here.
- 919kwjc, on 06/22/2008, -1/+24Actually, 90% of black voters in America traditionally vote Democratic... so it doesn't matter anyway.
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -1/+24Yes, this is the confusing part for the rest of the World.
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -31/+54I don't care that Obama is black. I care that he's a socialist.
- cerealjynx, on 06/22/2008, -30/+53Why bring race into the issue at all? I'm voting for him because we have the same favorite food and drink.
Fried chicken and grape soda. - darylyounge, on 06/22/2008, -5/+26Most whites open to black president.
Half of all Americans say race relations are in bad shape.
WTF! - citirae, on 06/22/2008, -3/+23150% of statistics are somehow false or otherwise misconstrued.
- iamondigghaha, on 06/22/2008, -11/+30RACE IS IMPORTANT
LET US EMPHASIZE OVER AND OVER THAT WE AREN'T VOTING BASED ON RACE.
you know so we can focus on issues. - minorthreat, on 06/22/2008, -5/+23Yes, but wouldn't the poll be more related to this election if whites were asked how comfortable they would be with a "half white, half black" president?
- 1337chic, on 06/22/2008, -4/+22Why are you being dugg down for this? It is so true. I am an Obama supporter and I'm ***** sick of the Huffington post. You can't get anything legit out of it. 9 out of 10? Yeah right? Where did they do that poll, their office building or perhaps an Obama support rally?
- carbonetc, on 06/22/2008, -1/+19Does implying that a half-black person is automatically considered black strike anyone as racist in itself?
- publiclurker, on 06/22/2008, -1/+19Wasn't their current candidate in the party 150 years ago?
- xtinamo, on 06/22/2008, -0/+17We often forget the social desirability bias that plagues the polling of such sensitive issues.. it's probably more like 70/30.
- Progrockusa, on 06/22/2008, -0/+16It's Grape Drink!
- chromehound47, on 06/22/2008, -5/+20I expected the number to be much lower. 90% is a win, in my opinion.
- govsucks, on 06/22/2008, -3/+18WOW, all these years I thought society FORCED me to participate in Social Security. Gosh you are so right, all I had to do is decide not to participate and society said, "hey, you don't want to participate, we won't force you" / Sarcasm... He's right, no socialists here, just democrats that lie and act like they aren't
- namar777, on 06/22/2008, -3/+17I can't believe!! That this question is still on the table... RACIAL DISCRIMINATION GODAMN MANKIND MOVE THE F**** ON!
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -28/+41The other 10% are brainwashed foxnews watching McCain fanatics.
- Norumeni, on 06/22/2008, -1/+14Whites aren't the only racists....
- TinternAbbot, on 06/22/2008, -5/+18Many conservatives/republicans actually think that Obama's blackness is his most redeeming factor as a candidate, because even conservatives agree that it would be good for America to finally have a black president...largely so that we can move on.
- FLarsen, on 06/22/2008, -4/+17It would be better if you where pretty ***** ready for a good president. If that's Obama in your opinion, then that's fine. I wouldn't vote for him, not because he's black (couldn't care less), but because of his policies and voting history.
- Stevanoski, on 06/22/2008, -4/+17@vault, damn well said.
- 1337chic, on 06/22/2008, -4/+16Why should he gain votes just for being black?
And anyway, the article wasn't about people voting for him BECAUSE he is black. It is about people being okay with a black president. That is two very different things. - xanadu2113, on 06/22/2008, -2/+14of the one-eyed, one-horned variety?
- Chaoticfist, on 06/22/2008, -4/+16Look at what happened with a white man as president of the USA (Bush clearly) Two Wars, a possible third, a ***** economy, an over funded and stretched military and more than usual of the rest of the world hating the USA......
Ya some change would be a terrible idea....... - BJLStorm, on 06/22/2008, -6/+17And some of them are and like to tie it into their argument. Trust me, I've had to talk and debate with these people. They like to say things like, "America is not ready for a black president." I'm reply, "YOU'RE not ready for a black president." ***** racists.
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -5/+16I guess you missed the last few days when members of congress were calling for the nationalization of the oil companies?
