- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Shouldn't the famous Bridge To Nowhere have been on that list?
- awm4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20This is a really interesting article.
My favorite is the EU's stripper school. - BlackAle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12As expected, not really worlds worst, just US worst with a token non-US one thrown in so they could attach 'world'.
- blazen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm surprised the Big Dig in Boston isn't on the list :P
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12not yet, stevens just needs another bill to hide it under
- Elephant789, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I would have to disagree. I think the White Sea - Baltic Sea Canal is not a waste. Neither is the Superconducting Super Collider. Whenever I read about the collider I think to myself, it's good we spend so much money on the advancement of mankind.
- AJRiddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Rofl, I live about 10 minutes from Blue Springs, MO (which is a suburb of Kansas City for those who don't know), and I can remember all the goth kids at my school pissed off about this.
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9In soviet Russia, number 5 comes before 4.
(jesus, that was a horrible joke) - wazzadoin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8What about the BIGGEST one of all:
Operation Iraqi Freedom. - Madh2orat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Well, porn drives the industry.
- Majin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5anything worth doing is worth doing well i suppose ...
- hzrds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I think they're changing it to "tubes" to nowhere
- Misesean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, it's not quite as silly as I thought: when I read "Combating the Goths in Missouri", I actually thought it meant the Germanic people from the days of the Roman Empire. /That/ would be the most useless state project in the world!
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5aahh.. the old 1, 2, 3, 5, 4, 6, 7 strategy... flawless.
- Elephant789, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This isn't about the US. It's about mankind.
- PopcornDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But you have to give them credit for actually figuring out there wasn't a problem and returning the rest of the money they hadn't spent yet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually, the most expensive war has been the "War on Poverty." The cost to date exceeds $7 trillion dollars (as compared to $300 billion for the Iraq War) and the poverty level has not dropped much since the 60s. In other words, it has been, by any measurable analysis, a colossal failure. Of course, it is politically incorrect to discuss this....hmmm.
- gleapsite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Russia and italy are not members of the united states.
1+1=2. - wheaty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You are actually saying that the super collider that was never finished and was later used to store styrofoam cups... was an advancement to mankind?
Now, I'm just going off the article here. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4EU CAP = the agricultural subsidies? If so, I agree. It's complete madness.
However, don't you think the moving of the entire Parliament back and forth between Strasbourgh and Brussels every month, at a cost of 200M euros per year, for the sole reason that France demands a piece of the cake, is an insanity that'd fit better on this list?
(Which reminds me... help stop the insanity and sign this: http://oneseat.eu/ ) - ImperatorTerrae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well it doesn't seem to be serving much of a purpose nowadays does it? I'd call that pretty useless.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This article reminds me why I despise politicians so much.
- llipsis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow. a link to neatorama. just what digg needed!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6In soviet russia, number 5 number 4s YOU!
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually I'm wondering why the $500 billion US defense budget is not on this list.
I find it crazy that the currently 2nd biggest research project in the world is the $12billion ITER fusion test reactor. This project will run for 30 years and is believed to solve most energy problems in the world, if successful.
$12billion over 30 years for the most important scientific project in the world.
$300billion per year for the US military....... - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Why is there no mention of the EU CAP. A waste of €400B pa. The policy is totally insane yet some Europeans hold onto it like a religion. No matter how much proof of it driving 3rd world and developing countries farmers into poverty, no matter that it pushes our food prices up ridiculously, no matter that it costs us a stupid amount that can be better spent on the stripper schools or maybe dumped down a drain somewhere.
I find it amazing that most EU countries are completely insolvent when it comes to pension liabilities (some to the tune of 800% GDP in unbacked liabilities) yet they believe we can afford this madness. - oskite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Which one? *rolls eyes* There's the one in south central now too... serves even less purpose, but it may still happen.
- ImperatorTerrae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And to think of all the things we currently blame for America's enormous debt... I just added several more things to that list.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Someone blame the liberals, quick.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2While the dam might have some problems, I'd hardly call it useless.
- YesMoreLight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I think its not on there cause it was never officially approved, let alone built.
- optigon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I live near Bedford, IN, and some times little towns in Indiana will do anything to boost themselves...
One town, in a desperate attempt to attract tourists even had Kenny Rogers play: http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/12175303
Which ultimately just left a bunch of Kenny Rogers fans asking, "Where the hell is Waveland, IN?"
Can't blame a small town for trying to grow. I mean, would you move to Bedford, IN? http://www.city-data.com/city/Bedford-Indiana.html - Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The Florida Barge Canal item is rather interesting to me as a Floridian. Despite this project receiving such bad press and publicity, that didn't stop the government from creating the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, which was not only successfully completed, but still manages to cut across Florida through Lake Okeechobee, thus technically turning the southern part into an "island" (I put this in quotes because, of all the important issues raised by such a project, that's got to be one of the stupidest arguments against it I've ever heard.) It also poses just as much of an environmental problem; the careful system of locks and dams used to protect the underground water supply also prevents Lake Okeechobee from properly running off into the Everglades, which has had a huge impact on the environment there. That's okay, because a lot of the land directly south of the lake has been turned into sugar cane fields and cattle pasture, which has created problems far more serious, such as pollution and a reduction of biodiversity and habitats.
It's okay, however; this was all wished for by the people of Florida in order to reclaim land from the swamps and create more area for people to settle, thus encouraging immigration into Florida, so all of the arguments against the barge canal sound a bit hollow. - Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stop giving them more ideas..
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The Big Dig was necessary, it was just horribly managed (by corrupt people).
- the_condor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's kind of a bummer they filled with water. I always wanted to take some go carts down into the tunnels.
- imagoddamnrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I live there too. My dumbass friend found a ventilation shaft and has repelling equipment. I heard they filled the tunnels with water. We've got bets on whether he survives.
- ittrick, on 02/18/2008, -0/+0would I move to bedford? heck yeah, I mean 3 robberies in ALL of 2006: http://mywikicity.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bedford ...
with attentions comes all things, good and bad. - XSforMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sorry, it seems that Grayone beated you to the punchline.
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The whole EU project is a huge waste of money.
- GrayOne, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Yeah the Super Conducting Super Collider was a real waste, it would only have put US decades ahead of the Europussies. Yeah good thing it was canceled; Clinton had better things to blow the less than .25% of the yearly tax revenue on.
- the_condor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I live in Waxahachie - the only thing the Super Collider is used for now is hosting the local fight club late, late on Friday nights.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Combating the Goths should be a nationwide program.
- ryan4477, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1haha, stamp out the goths....good idea. now im even more proud of my awesome tripp pants. im dyeing my hair soon too!
- psyops2000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2No matter what the budget is for a government project, it will always go over.
- Future2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I actually graduated from Blue Springs South in '04. I am not sure which was worse: all the goths or all the white kids that thought they were black.
- AmishRefugee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3*sigh* as a citizen of Saint Louis, I am ashamed of the rest of my state sometimes
but that was a good article - psyops2000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2LMFAO, read number 5. In Soviet Russia, nobody is a volunteer.
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Let's not forget Paris... wait, that one worked.
- AJRiddle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3St. Louis sucks dude, just move to Illinois and keep away from Kansas City's state....Missouri
