- Indyanna, on 10/11/2007, -12/+612I was enjoying this article immensely, but this is what made me laugh:
Barnes said he'd probably do the same thing again under the same circumstances, if for no other reason than what he would face back home. "I wouldn't want my wife to give me hell for lettin' that guy get my money," he said with a smile.
I guess the only thing tougher than a Marine, is a Marine wife. :-) - omnithought, on 10/11/2007, -12/+527The price is wrong, bitch!
- strats4ever, on 10/11/2007, -8/+288There's no such thing as an ex-Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Even the link, and many other cases that make the news with elderly Marines illustrate this point.
- john2kx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+164You know the old man probably waited 40 years for something like this to happen so he could put his training to use again.. That's some unfortunate luck for the other guy..
- MacintoshSauce, on 10/11/2007, -1/+162Good for him! More people should do this to criminals.
- Scopitone, on 10/11/2007, -18/+159Call me crazy, but I'm all for WWII vets being given licenses to kill. They've earned it.
- deadlyseal, on 10/11/2007, -2/+96The 20's - 40's spawned some of the toughest bastards to ever walk the earth. My grandfather is around his age and i wouldn't fight him with a bat.
- ehcropydoc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+95I love justice...
- TehSwat, on 10/11/2007, -15/+107Glad that little prick got whats coming to him. It's very unfortunate that younger adults like this 27 years old are giving others bad names.
- Yoda7, on 10/11/2007, -6/+97Former Marine, not ex-Marine...
- Bogie22, on 10/11/2007, -2/+91Gosh I wish our country weren't as soft as it is now. This guy represents my kind of America. Not the sue happy, "what about my rights!" abomination of it.
- designerutah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+79Gotta love it when criminals get more than they bargained for! Too bad it doesn't happen more often.
- Novagenesis, on 10/11/2007, -18/+93Anyone here notice that the guy's getting 15 years for pickpocketing?
Justice is *****... A beating and a few months in prison sound like a fair sentence, to me... Rapists often get far less than that. - zildjianrocker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+65Our wonderful legacy of kicking ass and taking names continues.....
- ShoGinn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+60Best damn story in a while.
- SilkSteel, on 10/11/2007, -3/+60Tomorrow's headline: "Former marine sued for $65 million by 27 year old for personal damages caused by assault".
Welcome to America. - ateoto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5415 years is just the maximum term for that conviction, most likely he will end up getting much less than that.
- timbo83251, on 10/11/2007, -2/+55I absolutely LOVE IT when old people give it back to criminals.. my favorite is that 90 yr old Chicago lady that blew a robber away with a shotgun in her home... YES!--Just thinking about it makes me happy...
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/11/2007, -1/+45Call a Former Marine a Ex-marine and prepare to duck
- twiceasworn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+44This man is a dying breed. In 50 years when I am 70, everyone around me will be fat, lazy slobs.
- arcangelgabriel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+45Strats4ever - Amen Brother.
Frost9999 - you wouldn't understand. - griz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+41What, No YouTube surveillance video link??
- celestial, on 10/11/2007, -5/+45GET SOME!
- brstilson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+40I live less than a mile from that gas station. It's right in front of an Apartment complex called York Creek. It is notorious for being populated by white-boy gangsta wannabes and their tatooed eternally-pregnant sluts. They should just put up a barbed wire fence around the whole place since almost everyone that lives there will probably go to prison at some point. Chances are 110% that this pickpocket was visiting a friend there.
- maffiou, on 10/11/2007, -0/+39Reminds me of Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge
- scoobycarolan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+42Thanks to this man for beating back the pussification of America just a little bit further. I'm gonna go eat a raw steak and drink a sixer of Bud!
- Frost9999, on 10/11/2007, -7/+44So you're saying that adult pick-pockets are giving adults in general a bad name? I can only imagine a playground full of 8 year olds sharing gossip on their lunchbreak... "Hey, did you hear, adults are all going down the tubes. Hell, they're all liars and thieves these days! Even my mummy is probably a pick-pocket.. I mean.. they all are, right?"
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -3/+40I've come to chew gum... and kick ass.... and I'm all out of gum (because I came here to buy some).
** Thwak! ** - DoctaStooge, on 10/11/2007, -1/+37It's just like the boy scouts. "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle". It's not a brainwashing thing, it's an achievement thing. Becoming a Marine is not something that is easy to do, so you take pride in becoming a Marine and see yourself as a Marine for life, even when you are no longer in active duty.
- GiggleStick, on 10/11/2007, -1/+37I wouldn't fight my Grandfather either, but not because he's especially tough. I just don't like to go around beating up my elderly relatives. It's so sad.
- psyjoniz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+34unfortunate my ass. that kid deserved it. i bet he will NEVER put his hand in anyone's pocket again.
- jsnow87, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34The article says he enlisted in 1956. Dumb ass.
- bilbus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29Its a brotherhood ... I don't see anything wrong with it.
- SocialPoison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29I highly doubt he'll get 15 years for that. Hell... the judge will probably let him off with a year and some probation. I'd love to be at that hearing.
"Wait so let me get this strait... you got beat up by a 72 year old man? Hahaha... good luck in jail..." - thestorey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28I'm partial to pie.
- JesusPickle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26Awesome
- chalkboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25Say that to a Marine. Lets see how long your pansy ass last.
- jedi924, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25"He's anything but an easy mark: Barnes served in the Marines, was an accomplished Golden Gloves boxer and retired after 20 years as an iron worker."
I read that line and was like "holy crap" That pick pocket sure got what he deserved, and I think this guy was the perfect guy to do it. - Armitage2k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23Well, I am married... and that would be my EXACT reasoning also...
- YourSoulisMine, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23I like justice pie.
- DevinOlsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20"He immediately grabbed the person's wrist with his left hand and started throwing punches with his right, landing six or seven blows before a store manager intervened."
I cannot believe how bad ass that sounds... - dubled, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Damn West Michigan is becoming a hot bed of interesting stories. First it was the wheel chair semi kid, then the "stolen camcorder post to digg is a felony", and now this "72 yr old dude ownz this red neck trying to pick his pocket"
- DarkHumour, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19The only thing that can kill Barnes, is Barnes.
- BrokenBokken, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Marines don't die. They just go to hell and regroup.
- 1776jedi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19While I am not a marine, I can understand that they are a brotherhood for life. It is the same for the other armed forces but the marines are the only ones that make it a point up front. I as a civilian can only understand because my Mom, Dad, and brother all served.
- manstein01, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Right, because in a "civilized society" people just let criminals get away with nefarious behavior while screaming "help." IE liberal idiots like you think that because you cannot defend yourself do not believe others should be able to either.
Go move to Great Britain. There, if someone even breaks into your house, you have to run or face charges. You would be much happier there. - buster99, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19What made me laugh is the reference to "another manager" - how many managers does it take to run a gas station convenience store?
- Ricky8765, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Frost.... you FAIL!
- gopher043, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15hopefully the marine beat him so hard his hat now will fit facing the right direction. I hate those side hat wearing *****.
- beatbox32, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15"I'm gonna rip off your head and ***** down your neck!"
