- hipnerd, on 07/23/2008, -6/+401. MoveOn.org was founded by Joan Blades and Wes Boyd, the cofounders of Berkeley Systems -- the company that made the Flying Toasters screensaver and "You Don't Know Jack." They did not need or receive "1 million dollars" from Bill Moyers to get their start. They were millionaires on their own and they immediately built a powerful grassroots fundraising organization.
2. Even if Bill Moyers did donate money later, it was his -- not "taxpayer money." You have no more say over how Bill Moyers spends his money than you do how Karl Rove does or your garbageman for that matter. And PBS receives less than half of it's funding from government sources -- the rest is donations from the public.
So, you're factually wrong twice right out of the gate. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you're not entitled to your own facts. You obviously see bias in MoveOn.org, Bill Moyers and PBS. But by changing reality to suit your own perceptions, you've revealed a much deeper strain of bias than I've ever seen Moyer exhibit. - charm803, on 07/23/2008, -4/+30The only way we can even begin to erase color lines are to first stop using words that describe us OURSELVES.
I consider myself American first, but people see me and think "Latina" or "Mexican."
If I don't want to be called a beaner, then I don't refer to Mexicans as beaners.
If the black community doesn't want to be called anything other, then their music should reflect it. - alkajazz, on 07/23/2008, -5/+29I hate racism. Who cares white, black red or yellow we are all in this together.
- afx114, on 07/23/2008, -6/+27Nas has a track on his new album titled "Sly Fox." It's the first anti-Fox News rant I've ever heard in popular music. You can find the lyrics here: http://www.absolutelyrics.com/lyrics/view/nas/sly_ ...
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -14/+34"look at what they did to the dome in three days, they turned it into a ghetto"
***** Fox News. Everybody who is associated with that network can go straight to hell. Fox News is a disgrace. - vandernderyid, on 07/23/2008, -7/+26It's not racism, because "Terrorist Fist Jab" really is keeping to the issues, right?
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -3/+22Looking at the first comments here is like lifting something up and seeing a lot of cockroaches scurry around.
- vault, on 07/23/2008, -43/+62MoveOn dealing the race card from the bottom of the deck for political purposes. Nothing new there.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -55/+67Why in the world do I care what Nas has to say? Please. Move on already. Heh.
- apextek, on 07/23/2008, -10/+22DIGGERS UNITE! DON'T LET THE NEO-CONS BURY THIS THREAD!!!! THEY ARE ATTACKING IN FORCE!!!!!
- Stevanoski, on 07/22/2008, -73/+85MoveOn.org got it's start from daddy Warbucks (Bill Moyer) with a grant of 1 million dollars from our taxes. They should at least repay part of that by trying to be balanced.
To the Left, if anyone points out anything contrary to Obama being the new Messiah then they are "racist". - 3lit3, on 07/23/2008, -7/+18these comments suck.
- apextek, on 07/23/2008, -14/+25all these comments are pro FOX NEWS on a site thatsa readers generaly have strong distaste for FOX.
I smell a rat or a fox tryin to bury bad publicity - inactive, on 07/23/2008, -20/+31Wow, this will do about as much good as wishing really really REALLY hard for Fox to go away.
Exercise in futility FTL
Buried for sheer stupidity of the idea alone, and the fact that it was a Maki/thinkprogress submission also factored into the decision.
By the way, when was Nas last relevant? The man who wanted to name his album ***** really shouldn't be the spokesman for your "racial justice" cause. Where's his Tupac impression? - caninedevotion, on 07/23/2008, -18/+27Everyone watch out! This thread is a pro-Fox circle jerk. Oooohhhh fair and balanced! fair and balanced! Mmmm... Pee in my mouth, Reagan.
- HerbertWest, on 07/23/2008, -1/+10Comprehensive list of people that want you to be scared:
1.All the people in the media.
Wow, I expected it to be longer then that. - personalj, on 07/23/2008, -7/+16I'm anything BUT a redneck...
- Stevanoski, on 07/23/2008, -12/+21"You know you're a redneck when" Liberal profiling always contains "redneck". People who work hard for little money and vote Democrat for the most part. If they only knew the disdain the elites held for them.
- DisposableRob, on 07/23/2008, -7/+16Wait, what?
I can't tell the difference between trolls and actual neocons anymore. - personalj, on 07/23/2008, -6/+15What size tinfoil hat do you wear?
- sugarazor, on 07/23/2008, -5/+13Guys like Nas, Mos Def and even going back to old school Public Enemy, are interesting because they're dangerous to outlets like FOX. They present their message in a cool way while also looking clever in the process. When FOX attacks guys like Ludacris and Nas, they come off as lame an uninformed to anyone under the age of 40 and it's only going to be a few years before kids who grew up listening to Nas and stuff like that are going to look back and laugh at how it was once condemned. Remember, it wasn't that long ago when we couldn't show Elvis shaking his hips on television, this is just an extension of that and outlets like FOX can fight all they want, but they will lose.
- mmmmmbiscuits, on 07/23/2008, -24/+32Yay for MakiSpam!
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7Then submit them
- Nintendesert, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7Petitions mean nothing. Ratings mean everything. Hate Fox News all you want, but people keep tuning in, and to them and their owners, that's all that matters.
- Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -4/+11Just because you (probably) grew up in the suburbs and can't relate to Nas doesn't make him a wannabe thug. He grew up in an area where violence is real and when that happens it's a part of you whether you like it or not.
Considering the circumstances he's a pretty well rounded person.
I'm guessing as well you don't actually listen to Nas, so you are talking about things you heard.
PS if you think FOX is fair and balanced you are narrow minded. - gab00n, on 07/23/2008, -5/+11The neo-cons have taken over digg.
- apextek, on 07/23/2008, -2/+8FOX is on the attack
- charm803, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6But when everyone thinks that way, we run into problems.
I think Nas has no place to talk, is all. - WickedDrag0oN, on 07/23/2008, -9/+15You know whats ironic, in the 1800's the republican party was filled with liberals and the democratic party was the conservative party. Right after the civil war the Republicans were doing everything in their power to keep the democrats out power for fear that they would repeal many of the anti slave movement laws. Isn't it funny how things have changed.
Swapped shoes did we? - fulibs, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6First of all, what is wrong with being a redneck?
Second, isn't that just a little racist? Its like saying anyone who watches BET is a... well you get the point. - usaf1984, on 07/23/2008, -2/+8If you dont like fox news don't watch or read it. Wow problem solved. Always have something you dont like and you have to bitch about it make sure you come to digg.com
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -14/+20"Fox is fine, it's actually fairly balanced, the hosts bring in people with opposing view points"...in you alternate universe...Fox is the National Enquirer of broadcast news they manipulate the facts to fit their warped bigoted right wing agenda...
- patpl22391, on 07/23/2008, -8/+14Ignore socketpuppets, he needs to go back to mediamatters, dailykos, firedoglake, thinkprogress, moveon.org, huffingtonpost, rawstory, crooksandliars, and all his other "unbiased" news sites.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6"Dugg" down b/c . . . your neighbors won't let you watch their TV?
- IslandDog, on 07/23/2008, -2/+7This shows how stupid the left really is. They have some insane obsession with Fox News.
This is how the Obama camp reacts. If you are somehow against him, use the race card. Wake up you fools. - Stevanoski, on 07/23/2008, -11/+16http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfi ...
just google "moyers pbs slush fund moveon.org, more stories than I can post. - Quizboy, on 07/23/2008, -7/+12Wow, reading some of these comments it sounds like a group of people are trying desperately to come up with any counter-argument and failing bad: "Who the f*ck is Nas, and why should I care..." The story isn't about some rapper, it's about SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND citizens trying to do something about Fox.
- AeonTorpor, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5What's a n!gger? Did you mean "*****"? Your words aren't like magical spells that will conjure up crazed black people if you say the word. It's a word, get over it. So is honky. Anyone can say it. Should gypsies get hell bent when some one says "you gypped me"?
- Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -5/+10@patpl22391:
I call my wife sweety that doesn't mean FOX "news" can as well. - Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6"Nas has no place to talk" I'd agree there probably are better people to represent Color of Change.
- Stevanoski, on 07/23/2008, -14/+18Moyers provided 1 million dollars from PBS slush fund.
- DaDrake, on 07/23/2008, -13/+17I wonder, do democrats in office ever get tired of the far-left-fringe moveon.org? This is perhaps one of the most hateful and vocal minority "non partisan" groups that exists. When democrats don't follow their ill conceived agenda, moveon.org throws them under a bus. Not to mention, they are far too eager to not only attack individuals in disrespectful ways, but also to attack the messenger.
- d722002, on 07/23/2008, -1/+5First off... I know i'll be called a "NEOCON" for this one, and i'll be buried. Whatever.
The video referenced in the post is a very bad one to use here... it shows about 2 different guests on Fox... each appearing on the same shows. Yes, there's small snippets from other shows, but the majority of the video is focused on Hannity and Colmes. I think a more diverse evidence base is needed to support that.
Oh, and yes, I watch Fox News. I watch it because, even though it may not be completely balanced, it is the most balanced. They aren't fawning over Barack Obama like he's some sort of Messiah/Superman/Rockstar combo. I also think it was distasteful of the Obama campaign to keep Fox News off of his mideast trip... but then again, what can you expect? CNN, NBC, and ABC are already in his pocket... he wouldn't need the extra carry-on. - datastorageguy, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6Racist smears? This is just the lefts attempt to block ANY criticism of their messiah by labeling anything critical of Obama as racist.
Don't you idiots realize this? - Phyraxus, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4Unfortunately, there are still people who believe that if we pit ourselves against one another, somehow we will be able to build a better future for ourselves. Personally, I love the human race, but I can't stand people.
- DVmaker, on 07/23/2008, -6/+10Have you watched the cited video? This is not about fair and balanced reporting, it's about plain and simple racism.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6Let's see . . . decision DECADES ago never to own TV . . . "Faux"—Wow! I never heard that before, EVER!—News REINFORCES your decision. OK, I'm guessing here: You saw it, evaluated it, & decided against it by watching on your neighbors' set?
Why do YCW et al cont to pronounce judgment, while at the same time admitting they "have never"/"would never"—EVER!—watch[ed] FNC/read Matt Drudge/believe[d] WND? Take my advice: Avoid apoplexy by NEVER visiting David Horowitz's site. "The truth will set you free," either by enlightening you or killing you. Either way, you'll "get it." - inactive, on 07/23/2008, -3/+7You obviously have no idea what a "neocon" is, so you just call anyone you disagree with a neocon. Idiot.
