- vulminiha, on 11/12/2008, -6/+319It's a little sad that this article even needs to exist. It's like sitting down and writing "5 Reasons Michael Jackson Would Make a Bad Babysitter"
- Surferess, on 11/12/2008, -11/+203Reason Number 6 - She's a wing ding!
- pers1an, on 11/12/2008, -9/+179Amen to that. The fact that they managed to narrow this down to 5 concrete reasons is impressive, considering the many more obvious reasons not to elect her...
- redcolumbine, on 11/12/2008, -10/+128#6 (actually #1 in my book) - now that Americans can stop being scared to act like Americans, a candidate whose only advantages were white supremacism, anti-intellectualism, and a hot 455 will be one heck of an embarrassment if she manages to surface again.
- paintgrl, on 11/12/2008, -6/+97As much as I like to think she has no chance, there are 46% who said no to Obama and over 70% of them love Palin. Second 4 years is enough time for her to brush up on her knowledge gaps and practice debating. I know from Palin's interviews she is planning to get the Alaskan Senate seat that will be up for grabs soon.
I would not write her off, she is like a cockroach and will not easily die. - pantoneGhost, on 11/12/2008, -7/+815 words,
doesn't know ***** about *****. - SheilaNoya, on 11/12/2008, -4/+73"she is like a cockroach and will not easily die"
LOL. Let's hope she stops breeding like them too. - playuhh, on 11/12/2008, -5/+59Africa.
- XeN0cidE, on 11/12/2008, -1/+55*pew pew pew* [wink]
- pennsykid2000, on 11/12/2008, -4/+56"She likely wouldn't even make it out of the GOP primary."
Out of? She wouldn't even make it TO the primaries, just like Quayle (who actually served as VP for 4 years and presumably learned something).
Palin is good for more laughs, but her career as a serious politician is essentially over. If conservatives think Palin is a strong candidate for 2012, then conservative Republicans are a lot more intellectually bankrupt than I thought. Looking back on the last two decades of their candidates--Bush Sr, Dole, Bush Jr, McCain--they've sent up some pretty unimpressive standard bearers, even if the Bushes managed to fool enough people to get elected. Following that group with Palin would show the world how devoid their party is of top-level intellect and talent. Republicans really should start respecting intelligence and judgment in politicians; otherwise they will go the way of the Whigs. - TunaFishGangsta, on 11/12/2008, -1/+527. Her GOP compatriots will tear her apart. She's married to a man who was a part of the Alaskan secessionist party for 7 years (sleeping with the enemy), she attended their meetings, and she addressed their annual conventions twice including this year when she said to them "keep up the good work".
Last I checked, wanting to secede from the union was pretty anti-American. Obama went light on this because he had more cards in his deck. The GOP, not so much. They will take this one thing and swift-boat her, and her wit isn't going to save her.
Personally, I believe one of the only reasons she's "open" to the idea of running in 2012 is that she wants to save face. She wants to say, "oh I'm up for that again". She was put through the wash and hung out to dry. I don't think she's going to want to do that again, but never say never I suppose. - geoken, on 11/12/2008, -2/+50I think she destroyed herself by speaking.
- padraic2112, on 11/12/2008, -2/+4870% of the 46% who said no to Obama equals 32.2% That's a colossal stomping in a national election, supposing that the turnout numbers are even close (which they likely won't be in 2012).
The cold reality is that Sarah Palin completely turned off anyone who was legitimately a centrist, and at least half of the actual intellectual conservatives in the country.
If she runs, and actually wins the nomination (something I regard about as likely as someone other than Obama being nominated to run for the Democratic party in 2012), it might actually trigger a large enough flight from the GOP to create a real third party in the U.S.
Experience isn't the issue. There were successful inexperienced Presidents. The issue is she is simply not curious. She doesn't care about what she doesn't know. Someone like this has no business running a city, let alone anything bigger than that... whatever else they accomplish, they're at best a marginal leadership candidate. - GregFD3S, on 11/13/2008, -5/+51Five reasons? Seriously?
One reason: She's an evangelical nut-job that's legally mentally ***** retarded. - bmw112208, on 11/13/2008, -3/+40#14, refers to dinosaurs as "Jesus Horses"
- thereisnospoon4, on 11/12/2008, -3/+37There is only one reason I would ever want Sarah Palin to be in any sort of spotlight in this nation--to pull SNL out of the suckfest it has become. This is the first time in a decade I have been interested in watching SNL and it's only because Palin is so stupid and simple-minded. It was like she was made to be made fun of by SNL, and Tina Fey did an amazing job of that.
Other than that, Sarah Palin can go right back to Alaska and bury her head in the snow. And for the love of all that is holy, stop popping out demon spawn! - 8300dvo, on 11/12/2008, -2/+34you managed to narrow it down to 5 huh? that deserves a digg in itself
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -2/+33The country?
- IndigoMoss, on 11/13/2008, -0/+30Your last paragraph is why I think myself, and pretty much anyone else here on Digg disliked Palin so much. She's an anti-intellectual, anti-science, fundamentalist (pretty much George W. Bush without the experience, and even crazier).
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -0/+29McCain didn't vet her, now that the media did- her true colors came out, and there not pretty. She needs to shut up and quit criticizing President-elect Obama...
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -4/+33Why are we even talking about this?
- darkciti2, on 11/12/2008, -3/+29Could we please ignore this woman into oblivion, ala Man Coulter?
- JigoroKano, on 11/13/2008, -0/+24Am I the only person that envisioned a Family Guy sequence after that reference?
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -1/+25
She quoted a white supremacist and fascist in her RNC speech. That was her introduction in the world, and she chose a deliberate quote from an anti-semitic, pro-Nazi, white supremacist. The quote she used? "We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity." Such a throwaway quote could have been written from scratch. But the deliberate use of a quote by Westbrook Pegler says a lot about her political sympathies.
** In 1965, referring to Robert F. Kennedy, Pegler wrote: "Some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies." ** - siszam, on 11/13/2008, -3/+26I hope she does run. It will be fun watching her epic failure when she can't hide from the media.
- TsuruchiBrian, on 11/13/2008, -3/+25#6: We're not doing the talent portion
- Xihix, on 11/12/2008, -13/+35I'd plow through HER door if you know what I mean.
- enantiodromia, on 11/13/2008, -1/+22Christian American Zionism is a weird thing...
- Anomaly100, on 11/13/2008, -2/+21Is the fact she's ridiculously ignorant a reason? It might be a factor.
You betcha! - MediaWeasel, on 11/12/2008, -3/+22The other thing that will come back to haunt her is her character and personality - no-one in the GOP will forget her egocentric hissy fits, her sense of entitlement, her lying and her whackjob diva reputation. Would YOU want to work with someone like that for an election season? Let alone contemplate working with her for four years - the staff turnover would be shocking.
Palin might come across on the surface as being all folksy and jolly, but that's a facade. - Thinkerofthings, on 11/13/2008, -2/+20I betcha can't say dumb five times fast
- eggraid, on 11/13/2008, -1/+17She's a font?
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+17Great analysis, and I agree with everything but your final paragraph...judging by that whacked-out look in her eye, and the way her entire face brightens up when people bring up 2012, this moron looks upon the presidency as the Ultimate Beauty Contest, and is blissfully ignorant of the fact that she is dangerously incapable of handling that job.
God help us if she's even competitive. I'll be cheering for Romney to tear her a new ***** during the primaries. - inactive, on 11/12/2008, -5/+21Palin can't give up her 15 minutes, and I am sick of her. I hope she plows through her door in Alaska, and shuts it (with her stuffed bear).
- atdigg, on 11/13/2008, -1/+16I have mixed feeling, I want her to run because she's not going to win, but I cringe at the thought to see news about her every day.
- Eiknujrac, on 11/13/2008, -1/+16I don't think you can qualify who has been more oppressed, black people or women.
On one hand, women weren't enslaved since the beginning of civilization like black people were.
On the other hand, while not technically enslaved, women have always been seen as inferior.
No one said it was "more historic" to have a black president, just that it is a HUGE step forward in this country, where only 150 years ago they were still being enslaved and where there still exist chapters of the KKK.
Racism isn't going anywhere soon, either. (see recent KKK shooting) - maz2331, on 11/13/2008, -0/+14I say it would depend on the political environment at the time. For example, say that the current Bush mess is so bad that a full-blown depression occurs after January and nothing anyone does fixes it. Or, foreign events cause a perception of imminent war, or even a major shooting war (something that makes Iraq look minor by comparison).
Memories are short on such things, and the incumbent may well get the proverbial boot, regardless of who the opponent is, or even that the previous administration caused the problems in the first place. In such situations, someone running against an intellectual whose policies are perceived as ineffective need not prove intellectual depth to win in such an environment.
Let's keep in mind that both Bushes had over 90% approval ratings at some point in their terms. Public opinion is very fickle, and not always logical. - Uberpog, on 11/13/2008, -1/+15It's not just weird it's frightening.
The real motivation behind the evangelical support of Israel? It's where the rapture is going to occur. It can't happen until the Jews finally are in control of the holy land. Oh yeah and what happens to the Jews they're supporting once the rapture comes? They never accepted Christ so they go to hell. Yay! - directedition, on 11/13/2008, -1/+15I'm surprised it didn't have "Blatantly unqualified in every way, shape, or form."
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -2/+16#6: Because you can't win something you're not in the running for.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+14Well he would probably babysit for free, and in this economy that's something to consider.
- warsongs7, on 11/13/2008, -0/+14Too late! She is already a grandma.
- Uberpog, on 11/13/2008, -1/+14Oh and the fact that she's stupid as ***** and her support comes from people who frown on intelligence.
Sorry Evangelicals, but once you start spewing that crap about the earth being 6000 years old and Jesus riding dinosaurs you sound just as insane as the folks behind Scientology.
I'll even cave to your opposition to evolution because it hasn't been fully explained yet. But really... the earth is 6000 years old? Come on. - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+13I'd like to know that as well, go ask your mom and tell us.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -5/+18If the GOP is serious about going back to their party's roots of individual freedom, sound money, and a non interventionist foreign policy, they'll look to Ron Paul Republicans not this stupid bitch who didn't even know that Africa was a continent. I mean just look at this piece written by the good doctor today: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/11/paul.republ ...
Frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing and seeing Palin on the news everyday. She should have disappeared after the election was over, but for some strange reason the media keeps pimping her out to be the GOP's future. She represents the exact opposite of what the GOP's future should be if they plan on winning again in the future.
WHY IS THIS BITCH STILL TAKEN SERIOUSLY? I'm sick of these fake "conservatives" who hijacked our party. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/13/2008, -1/+14
Edit: Wingding fail. - Matri, on 11/13/2008, -1/+14Only because she's more entertaining. We laugh AT her, and we laugh WITH him.
