- LouiseCalabro, on 10/11/2009, -34/+591Bravo for Franken (D-MN) for recognizing that women are entitled to equal protection under the law.
- ColonelSlanders, on 10/11/2009, -20/+431and people wonder why women tend to vote more democratic than republican
- Gemfinder, on 10/11/2009, -95/+481McCain's no surprise. Remember, his view of rape is "Just lay back, relax and enjoy it!"
- omae, on 10/11/2009, -58/+429okay ill be the one to say it,
9 out of 10 people enjoy gang rape - inactive, on 10/11/2009, -6/+339MCCAIN!
- sunburner, on 10/11/2009, -23/+336The GOP needs to file for moral bankruptcy.
- MiddleAmerica, on 10/11/2009, -26/+338As usual, the GOP wants no accountability...
- 1x253, on 10/11/2009, -21/+233But there's always that one; the victim.
Of course, if she were my ex-girlfriend it would be 10 out of 10... lying slut. - veganpa, on 10/11/2009, -26/+237The GOP doesn't care about rule of law. They care about the rule of corporations.
- ColonelSlanders, on 10/11/2009, -13/+193i was skeptical of him at first but al franken appears to be a surprisingly good senator
- Speedy7, on 10/11/2009, -3/+180Thanks (Digg +1), but I meant the list of names and the "(R-SD)" and stuff.
EDIT: I think I cracked it. 'R' means Republican, and "XX" means the state.
Am I correct? Thanks. - goband, on 10/11/2009, -7/+181Dugg for the worst, most hilarious joke ever.
- EarlOfLade, on 10/11/2009, -9/+181What do you expect from a douchebag like McCain who cheated on his disabled wife with a hot, rich blond bitch?
Do you really think that the crazy kook McCain cares about women or family values? Really? - twiztidsinz, on 10/11/2009, -13/+178"In 2005, Jamie Leigh Jones was gang-raped by her co-workers while she was working for Halliburton/KBR in Baghdad. She was detained in a shipping container for at least 24 hours without food, water, or a bed, and "warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job." (Jones was not an isolated case.) Jones was prevented from bringing charges in court against KBR because her employment contract stipulated that sexual assault allegations would only be heard in private arbitration."
In case that's too many words for you to read all at once:
"Jones was prevented from bringing charges in court against KBR because HER EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT STIPULATED THAT SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS WOULD ONLY BE HEARD IN PRIVATE ARBITRATION."
(Caps added to accent)
This amendment would mean that Haliburton/KBR would be out of their US Gov Contracts. - LightLifeLove, on 10/11/2009, -14/+174wicked. horrible. sadly believable
- IgorUnchained, on 10/11/2009, -20/+171That's because Acorn didnt do it.
If Republicans and Democrats had ANY balls whatsoever, Halliburton, Dyncorps, KBR, and the rest wouldnt even still be in business.
Acorn can join them, but only before the REAL pimps and prostitutes are taken care of! - inactive, on 10/11/2009, -12/+159Well image your conservative douche bag party voting for a Corporation being able to have the sort of rights that let their employees get away with Rape.

I just read a very disturbing article on Alternet. http://www.alternet.org/blogs/healthwellness/14316 ...
While I was reading it I was thinking "Kyl has to be one of the few that said no... he has to be." Turns out you're not. You're voting party lines on an issue that should have no party lines. Please Senator, explain to me the GOP's stance on this issue? Are you really saying that sexual assault is okay? You better have one hell of an explanation or you and Senator McCain have lost not just my vote but that of my entire family. We are all outraged that you would vote no on an amendment like this. It proves to me that you no longer care about doing whats best for your constituents or the American people. You only care about doing what's best for your party and the corporations that fund it. I have never been more saddened that I am an Arizonan than I am right now. - Tarantulus, on 10/11/2009, -5/+112not a single democrat voted against this
http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/ ... - Buckwyld, on 10/11/2009, -4/+103Here is the amendment in its entirety.
"On page 245, between lines 8 and 9, insert the following:
Sec. 8104. (a) None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used for any existing or new Federal contract if the contractor or a subcontractor at any tier requires that an employee or independent contractor, as a condition of employment, sign a contract that mandates that the employee or independent contractor performing work under the contract or subcontract resolve through arbitration any claim under title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or any tort related to or arising out of sexual assault or harassment, including assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, or negligent hiring, supervision, or retention.
(b) The prohibition in subsection (a) does not apply with respect to employment contracts that may not be enforced in a court of the United States." - darkzealot89, on 10/11/2009, -3/+97McConnell voted for it surprise surprise...
OK I tried to vote him out, and most of Louisville did too. I apologize the rest of my state is ass backwards. - rocknog, on 10/11/2009, -9/+101The mind-boggling thing about this to me is, I simply can't see any ideological argument that could be made against this amendment. It's just one of those things I can't understand why anyone would oppose, regardless of their political views. So far, the best argument I've heard against it is that it's unnecessary, but even then, I'm still baffled. After all, clearly it is necessary, given what's happened, and even if it weren't, so what? Even if it were the case that this legislation is completely unnecessary, it's not as if it somehow extends government power - at the very worst, it's simply a symbolic gesture. So there you have it - it's either a harmless symbolic gesture or it makes a change for the better. Either way, I can't understand why anyone would oppose it.
- Propethic, on 10/11/2009, -4/+92Because they're not doing their job. I'm sorry but if defense contractors who are under our payroll are charged and found to have gang-raped a woman, I would expect there to be some consequences

no rapist left behind
/s - JerTheBear, on 10/11/2009, -6/+76Just goes to show you that your vote does matter. Al Franken won by a mere 225 votes out of almost 3 million cast. Thankfully, we here in MN were able to elect Franken over Norm Coleman. And I can say with near certainty that Norm Coleman would not be pushing good legislation such as this through.
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/11/2009, -5/+72Did you read the article? While the title is loaded and maybe even a little misleading I can't see how you could come away from the article thinking that the congressmen in question voted against gang rape.
- kinerry, on 10/11/2009, -12/+79I never knew rape was a partisan matter
***** moron - ceredron, on 10/11/2009, -7/+73LOOK AT THIS BLATANT MINOR GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION, CAN YOU SEE THIS ***** IT'S BLATANTLY UNPATRIOTIC AND TERRORISTIC
meanwhile, in other news, blackwater has killed countless civilians, raped and killed, and gangraped even its own women, and we should definitely back off of that subject, amirite. - inactive, on 10/11/2009, -10/+75"We have a criminal justice system that overrides any contract of arbitration agreement."
Tell that to Ms. Jones and her legal team. - killamockingbrd, on 10/11/2009, -12/+74Does this really surprise anyone?
- RulingWalnut, on 10/11/2009, -8/+67They voted to defend people who commit gang rape. Totally the same thing.

- inactive, on 10/11/2009, -8/+65I'm so sick of the Acorn story. It's been blown wayyyy out of proportion.
- pig13, on 10/11/2009, -3/+59Laws tend to change when your a private company working outside of the US.
- Lleu, on 10/11/2009, -3/+59I'm sending McCain and Kyl letters... this ***** is getting out of hand.
- asaone, on 10/11/2009, -4/+60This is made necessary by the total lack of respect for human decency by Halliburton/KBR and they know it. They can't even make water that is drinkable or safe to wash in and they continue to lie about that, and now rape. There is no accountability at any level in Halliburton/KBR so this amendment is very necessary and thank you Senator Franken (D MN) for offering it.
- Speedy7, on 10/11/2009, -3/+57Fill me in, I don't know American politics.
/Brit - Ouze, on 10/11/2009, -2/+55Hey, which one of those did Franken vote on? The 2001 version, or the 2006 revision? Hint: Franken was not elected until 2008.
- HappyProgrammer, on 10/11/2009, -5/+56What is common among all these states?
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the fact these are the poorest states of the union. They get way more in federal assistance than they pay in tax dollars. And complain the loudest about taxes.
Generally speaking these are the places where you'd find bible thumping, low education, gun toting, broke ass rednecks. - Mejari, on 10/11/2009, -4/+53They chose to vote against gang rape? How do you get that?
They voted against legislation that would punish people for covering up gang rape. Thats like saying the catholic church works against pedophiles when they protect them from prosecution. -
