- LazyEffort, on 10/19/2008, -9/+183Not all conspiracy theories are ***** just like not all 'facts' are factual. Actually, these voting machines have been proven faulty and unreliable and yet they're still used.
- jacurtz, on 10/18/2008, -24/+175Let's get THIS vote scandal story out Big Time...When it comes to FRAUD..the GOP takes second to NONE!
- netneutrality, on 10/19/2008, -13/+139Never ever forget what happened in 2000. Bush won Florida and the election by 537 votes, while up to 50,000 voters, mostly Democrats, who were thrown off the registration list shortly before the election as felons in an exercise directed by George Bush's brother Jeb, were later found to have been wrongly purged: http://www.thenation.com/doc/20010205/palast
For the love of the world don't let it happen again. - skiner24, on 10/19/2008, -10/+101Stealing the Presidency part 2
- inactive, on 10/19/2008, -4/+73you mean part 3
- CloakandSwagger, on 10/19/2008, -11/+77Considering most Americans are all basically coralled and locked into a two party system, then I'd say there's more being purged than just 13 million votes here.
As a result, the argument can be made that democracy as a whole has already been purged and that this ongoing battle between voter registration and voter purging is a demonstrably futile attempt to save something that is already long gone. - Dndlion, on 10/19/2008, -7/+55You can help here.

Video the Vote is a national initiative to protect voting rights by monitoring the electoral process. They organize citizen journalists—ordinary folks like you and me—to document election problems as they occur. And then they distribute their footage to the mainstream media and online to make sure the full story of Election Day gets told. Watch their 2006 highlights and join in as we Video the Vote this November. - zantos420, on 10/19/2008, -2/+49http://www.canivote.org/
- WoollyMittens, on 10/19/2008, -9/+48I'm not sure if it's not as obvious from inside the US, but to the rest of the world it is clear that your elections are as corrupt and rigged as in Russia and Zimbabwe.
McCain will steal the election. There's nothing a vocal minority can do about it. If you speak up loud enough now, you'll be prosecuted as a dissident when the neo-cons destroy the last of your "freedom". - heystoopid, on 10/19/2008, -4/+35Such evil deeds , perhaps it is time to change the system of how voters are registered and who maintains these lists period !
- Jareth86, on 10/19/2008, -0/+29Like I've said before, Obama must be at least 20 points ahead if he wants to beat the machines.
- BlindDefender, on 10/19/2008, -7/+29Greg Palast, the journalist who exposed the Republican party purging in Florida during the 2000 election has information and a free booklet dealing with this issue.
http://www.gregpalast.com/ - sublingo, on 10/19/2008, -1/+23When you're selfish and only thinking about the weight of your vote alone then sure. In case you forget, less than a thousand votes tipped the electoral votes and put Bush in office in 2000.
Don't be a moron. - inactive, on 10/19/2008, -6/+26Welcome to 2000-2008 2.0
- mrsteveman1, on 10/19/2008, -3/+22You are naive and stupid if you don't think this is political in nature. There is plenty of evidence of attempts to intimidate voters and illegally remove them from registration.
- Stavrosian, on 10/19/2008, -1/+19If you want to attack the source, at least attack the actual source:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica ...
Reading articles before you spit bile at them generally helps. All that the website you are lambasting is doing is referencing other news sources, so attacking the credibility of it while it acts as an intermediary is pointless. I don't think you need stellar journalistic integrity just to link to The Guardian. - facelesscoward, on 10/19/2008, -1/+17False. The list had approximately 50,000 people on it. A good number of them were felons, but there were also thousands mistakenly listed because Florida's government paid an incompetent/corrupt company to compile the list. Guess what? Turns out most of the people mistakenly listed were Democrats. Oops.
There's no doubt that if every legitimate vote were counted in Florida, George W. Bush would have never been POTUS. - MSMICA, on 10/19/2008, -4/+19Check out CANIVOTE.ORG...
It will tell you your registration status at once.
All it needs is your full registered name and address and the county you live in.
At times like this, one can't be too thorough. - stumper, on 10/19/2008, -12/+26Can anyone rationally explain that during the Florida debacle, why did the democrats demand to only recount the most Democratic counties in the state? Does that sound like an honest attempt to fix anything?
- Angostura, on 10/19/2008, -1/+15Dugg down, since digging down is a form of voting.
- inactive, on 10/19/2008, -9/+23Hell, I hate Republicans.
- inactive, on 10/19/2008, -4/+18Who wants to join my guerrilla socialist army if McCain wins?
- Jacolyte, on 10/19/2008, -1/+15Most of those "felons" (which actually weren't felons) were black people.
- SpamBurger, on 10/19/2008, -1/+14A rational explanation requires you to rationally listen and objectively weigh the evidence. Don't ask for something if you're not going to do with it what you asked to begin with.
Votes for both parties were lost in Florida because of poorly maintained machines. That is a fact that neither party is disputing. The reason they only wanted recounts in certain counties is a simple matter of time and resources. Catherine Harris was unwilling to admit there was a problem and refused to allocate any resources to clear up an issue that directly under her purview. Her decisions were, by her admission at the time and after, totally partisan so why shouldn't they have asked for recounts in counties where they knew they would get the most votes? - sponeil, on 10/19/2008, -0/+13@NoCommies - So you're saying we shouldn't be allowed to choose (i.e. we shouldn't have a democracy)? That sounds exactly like a commie government to me.
- FryerJF, on 10/19/2008, -0/+13I hate any kind of voter suppression. But I also hate fraudulent voters.
Too bad the system doesn't make it easier to do their own objective checks and balances so you don't have the two most vested interests fighting over the system that elects them all of the time. - twiztidsinz, on 10/19/2008, -1/+13Paper ballots aren't faulty, its the operator.
Seriously.. if you can ***** up a paper ballot, you don't deserve to vote.
You're probably the kind of person who accidentally cuts themselves with a spoon. - skiner24, on 10/19/2008, -2/+14Well, yes, and I'm sure a few more
- benzzene, on 10/19/2008, -2/+14Thanks for the great example of democracy you're setting over there. The rest of the world is inspired and impressed with your fair system which gives an equal voice to every citizen.
/sarcasm
Please make sure you are registered to vote and that your vote will count. It is MORE important that the election is fair than who wins. - inactive, on 10/19/2008, -0/+12I'm showing as not registered, although I was registered a month ago.
Funny, my brother, father and mother are all listed. I'm the only registered democrat in my house.
I live in Ohio. - WoollyMittens, on 10/19/2008, -2/+14Taking a videorecorder into the voting station. That's a nice way to be tazered to death by police.
- Quantumsparrow, on 10/19/2008, -3/+15Lead, did you not read the part in that AP article where ACORN has to, by law, submit every single registration card to the government even if they think it's fraudulent? And how if they think it's fraudulent, they mark it to be checked when they turn them in? They have registered a fraction of the REAL people that are being knocked off the ballots, how are they to blame for 13 million supposed fraudulent voter registration?
This is a matter of people taking advantage of ACORN's employment for registering voters ("Hurr, I'm just going to write down names for 6 hours for my $8/hr, I don't want to actually talk to people."), not ACORN systematically trying to commit voter fraud. It isn't as obvious as you think. - pontiac, on 10/19/2008, -0/+11Tell me something, is that dead person really going to vote? What's the real fraud here? Registering someone who will never cast a ballot or throwing out the ballot of someone who legally voted?
- keldath, on 10/19/2008, -0/+11Please, don't try the holier than thou *****. People make me sick when they pull this stereotypical ***** where Democrats and/or Republicans are always the same class of people. It just points out how big of an ass you are. We could generalize plenty of ***** about Republicans just as we could Democrats; that doesn't make it right or true.
- staffell, on 10/19/2008, -6/+16Disgraceful.
- baggio, on 10/19/2008, -1/+11How about letting every American 18 and over be able to vote? Simple solution..
- inactive, on 10/19/2008, -3/+13this is happening right before our eyes... what can we do or can we do anything about it?
- WoollyMittens, on 10/19/2008, -10/+20How naive must you be to fall for the neo-con propaganda? Ask lead2thehead.
- helenkupo, on 10/19/2008, -0/+9I registered to vote last month. I still haven't gotten my card yet.
- CeeAyy, on 10/19/2008, -0/+9Do you walk as slowly as you think? What poll are you looking at? The one in your hand doesn't count... the sample size is too small. lol.
It is not a dead heat. It's not even close. - wallyhartshorn, on 10/19/2008, -1/+10That just gets you your state's general voter registration information, not whether or not you personally are registered to vote. (At least that's the case for Illinois.)
A better resource is http://www.votepoke.org/. There you can enter your name and address, then see whether you are registered. (You can also check whether your friends are registered, then bug them if they're not, although at this point it might be too late to do so for this election.) - Stavrosian, on 10/19/2008, -3/+11There is no story with Acorn. Honestly, ignore the hype and just look at the facts. They pay people on an incentive-based scheme to register low-income voters. As in all areas of life, some of these employees try to cheat the system for higher pay, and submit fraudulent registrations to try and earn themselves more money.
Acorn follows up and checks on every registration submission, and any they suspect of being fraudulent or faulty they mark as such before handing it over - as they are required to do by law. You can't really call an organisation corrupt when it is in complete compliance with the law in keeping up checks on its employees. The only reason most people even know that fraudulent registrations were attempted is because Acorn themselves flagged them as fraudulent.
Even so, anybody who hasn't registered officially in person is required to show ID when they show up to vote. Any of the dead and/or fictional people who employees of Acorn attempted to register in order to make some extra money are therefore never going to be able to vote.
These are the facts. They are freely available to anybody who cares to hear them, and they are largely unchallenged. Make of them what you will, but I pity you if you can't pick the obvious truth out of that. - MalDON, on 10/19/2008, -0/+8Already voted :D
- minorgods, on 10/19/2008, -0/+8Actually from what I can remember when I was working for the company that scrubbed the data, one specific issue was "accidentally" scrubbing TX misdemeanors.. :/
- jaschen, on 10/19/2008, -0/+8Holy Crap! My registration is not there! What am I suppose to do!?!?!
- KingHarvest00, on 10/19/2008, -4/+12my province isn't listed
- slearwig, on 10/19/2008, -1/+9I wonder if McCain will break anybody's back to win.
And yeah, I was pissed at Kerry for giving up so soon. - shotgunefx, on 10/19/2008, -1/+8@led2thehead, I've no doubt there's shenanigans on both sides, but most (not all) but most of the stories you linked to have one person registering with the same info repeatedly, which gets them one vote. Those cases really sound like lazy ***** who want to fill up a sheet and get paid.
And the number you misquote, is 1.3 million, not 13 , and it's not incidents, it's the number of people they registered, so whatever anomalies are a fraction of that, even if it's 10%, you're still exaggerating by a factor of 1000. -
