Your car can't run on Congress' hot air
ocregister.com — I was watching the Big Oil execs testifying before Congress. That was my first mistake. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz knew the routine: "I can't say that there is evidence that you are manipulating the price, but I believe that you probably are. So prove to me that you are not."

- lgfaphile, on 05/24/2008, -2/+31Mark Steyn is brilliant.
- johnny2k, on 05/24/2008, -2/+19His brilliance reminds me a lot of the late William F. Buckley, Jr. Only Mark seems to be easier to understand... or, I've gotten smarter.... :-)
- IconoclastStill, on 05/25/2008, -0/+5Steyn may or may not be as intelligent and articulate as Buckley, but clearly he isn't as interested in flaunting his command of the language, which I always found annoying - Bill was the opposite of Shakespeare, always using an obscure term when a simpler one would serve as well or perhaps even better.
- victorypup, on 05/25/2008, -1/+4Buckley used obscurities to hide the fact that he talked in circles. The lack of conclusion in his commentaries only led to more obscurity leaving those who listened to him with a big, WOW on their mind.

- Clp727, on 05/24/2008, -2/+35The congressional hearings were nothing more than a political show. Nothing was gained, and there will be no improvement in the matter. Great article.
- CajunDigg, on 05/24/2008, -2/+29Terrific article. America needs a tidal wave of people speaking the truth like this.
- johnny2k, on 05/24/2008, -1/+16"America needs a tidal wave of people speaking the truth like this." Exactly! Amen!
- Navigator7, on 05/24/2008, -5/+23Good article but he left out a brutal attack on radical liberalism that would have made it a great article!
;-)
The, not-in-my-backyard, mentality of the Left has pushed oil men overseas, created a national security problem, shipped jobs over seas, and ...like he says... financed radical Islam to pursue their agenda of genocide.
It's clear, to enjoy a reduction of fuel prices in America we need a corresponding reduction in Liberal Ideology applied to our lives.
Hillary or Obama 'taking' oil men's "Excess Profit" or a NOPEC session is the kind of liberal ideology I'm referring to. - ZenaTWQ, on 05/24/2008, -2/+25I will never understand how educated people do not get this. Great Article!
- johnny2k, on 05/24/2008, -3/+25And here is a little tidbit that I found interesting. One of the guys on Bulls & Bears on Fox News just said that the oil prices are going up because of speculators on Wall Street. But instead, Congress has been investigating the producers; the drillers and refiners. What about people that do NOTHING productive, yet drive up futures prices by speculating?
Oh, how I'd love to see THAT bubble burst!- ZenaTWQ, on 05/24/2008, -1/+15I just heard that too... your post put a picture in my mind of those bubbles kids blow through those bubble blowers, some get really big. Just picturing it disappearing in to thin air...
- vault, on 05/25/2008, -0/+9Anyone can speculate on it...

- faultlineusa, on 05/24/2008, -2/+19I lone the new bumper sticker and sidebar widget at American Solutions. "Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less" That about says it all!
http://www.americansolutions.com/ - DocAntiprop, on 05/24/2008, -3/+16Excellent analysis! Wasserman Schutz epitomizes today's bull in a Chinashop Left -- ignorant, dogmatic, petulant, reactionary. In other comments to Cavuto, she opined, without a trace of irony, that yes, we certainly needed to grow our domestic petro-reserves. But again, this must be achieved WITHOUT building a single well to extract any of our incalculable supply of crude, or adding refining capacity. Public education has produced the VOTERS who happily empowered the moronic ruling elite the Founders warned us about. How do you even begin to counter such titanic idiocy? Heaven help us all!
- BECoole, on 05/24/2008, -3/+8I heard a statisitic today that, since January, the price of oil has increased by ~33% but the price of gas has only increased ~22%.
This means that the oil companies are eating 11% of the increase in the price of oil. - diamondbigdog, on 05/24/2008, -2/+12There is no evidence that you are beating your wife but I think you probably are so prove I am wrong...
ID10T - these3remain, on 05/24/2008, -3/+10FTA "if the House of Representatives has now declared it "illegal" for the government of Saudi Arabia to restrict oil production, why is it still legal for the government of the United States to restrict oil production?" And why does the liberal majority who were "given a mandate" continue to whine and pander (to other do-nothing liberals) yet do nothing to stop restricting oil production in the US? As usual, the solution is "redistribution of the profits of Big Oil", blame shifting and refusing to provide any solution that is remotely rational - Wasserman Schutz just reiterated why they are so inept and dangerously so. Mark Steyn gets it; what's so difficult to comprehend?
- Pillage, on 05/24/2008, -2/+13Why the hell would Democrats want oil prices to be lower during an election year?
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/24/2008, -17/+2Because democrats care about Americans, and Republicans are selfish assholes.
- punx, on 05/24/2008, -2/+13Come on now, you almost made me shoot Red Bull out of my nose and all over my poor laptop. Have some compassion for my computer. It's delicate.
- vault, on 05/25/2008, -2/+12you're going to learn a very painful lesson about politicians one day...
I urge you to read up on the donations labor unions and trial lawyers make to the Democrats before you decide they care about you. - vault, on 05/25/2008, -2/+13damn it, meant that reply for moola, not punx
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/25/2008, -13/+2Vault just another anti-American troop hating bottom feeding scum. Go back to praying Allah 5 times a day you freak.
- punx, on 05/25/2008, -3/+9Well Moola, your name says it all. Money is your friend because you sure as hell don't care about people. I truly try not to make nasty personal comments to people on here, but I feel since you started the mudslinging against vault, I feel no compunction to withhold exactly how I feel about you.
I have read quite a few of your comments on digg, and I can only say one thing to you...go ***** yourself, you pansy ass liberal *****. Have a nice day. - moolaismyfriend, on 05/25/2008, -12/+2LOL punx
You really are an embarrassment to the men and woman fighting the two wars your President started.
- vault, on 05/25/2008, -2/+12you're going to learn a very painful lesson about politicians one day...
- Qong, on 05/25/2008, -0/+4moola,
I am quite serious when I say that (nearly?) every comment that you make is an utter failure. I don't know if you're just kidding around or if you truly are this ignorant.
Republicans ARE Americans, as are Democrats. You just insulted all of the members of one of the major political party's in our country, yet you say that Democrats care about Americans?
What a joke... No, actually, you are the joke.- flip2trip, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3Block him, he never says anything of value. Just constantly makes personal attacks and then offers nothing to back them up with.
- punx, on 05/24/2008, -2/+13Come on now, you almost made me shoot Red Bull out of my nose and all over my poor laptop. Have some compassion for my computer. It's delicate.
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/24/2008, -17/+2Because democrats care about Americans, and Republicans are selfish assholes.
- punx, on 05/24/2008, -3/+14These liberal tree-huggers drive me insane. No nuclear power plants, no coal, no wood. What exactly are we supposed to do then? I suppose they think we should all be like them: smelly, never bathe, grow your own food, don't eat meat, save the animals, save the planet, screw the people! So if millions or even billions starve to death so they can produce worthless ethanol to replace oil, who the hell are they saving the planet for?
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/24/2008, -14/+2Wow this thread is full of troop hating Rethugs.
God what a train wreck, and a horrifying glimpse into the utter failure of the American education system.- txchica, on 05/25/2008, -0/+7Moo, you really should have your own show in Vegas if you can make decisions about people's beliefs and their educational levels just from reading a few comments.
Really, these comments make you seem like a sad, sad little man who was anger issues. You remind me of my puppy who has "redirected aggression", he basically gets mad and if he can't get to what he wants he then redirects that anger towards the closest object. I correct him and he goes in his crate, maybe you need a time out too?- DanThePainter, on 05/25/2008, -1/+7You haven't seen his greatest hits, like when he accuses people of having incestuous relations. Go check out his comments section. I am amazed that digg allows this classhole to continue in his abuse.
- txchica, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6I'll take a peek, but I've seen others that are just like him, all insults with no actual contributions to the conversation. And then they question our intelligence. LOL

- animalwheeler, on 05/27/2008, -2/+1@moola:
You seriously need to wake up from the liberal brainweashing. You actually beleive wht you have commented on this thread??? Seriously??
It is the liberal Dems who set up camp in Berkely to call the recruiters and the soldiers there "baby-killers". Not the "troop hating Rethugs".
And it is the liberal led NEA that gives us our current crop of graduates. That is where you get your "glimpse into the utter failure of the American education system".
Bush is a RINO, same as McCain, that is why McAmnesty is riding the current wave in on Bush's laurels. It is Bush's "compassionate conservatism" (re:progressive) that has helped get us here where we are.
What I pray the Good Lord helps us get away from: is the anti-constitution, anti-rights, liberal Socialists; that keep pushing forward their progressive agendas, veiled as "help and change" for the people of this country.
- txchica, on 05/25/2008, -0/+7Moo, you really should have your own show in Vegas if you can make decisions about people's beliefs and their educational levels just from reading a few comments.
- oceanrain, on 05/25/2008, -1/+6This is a great article. More common sense than anything else. And that is a problem with liberals-they do not understand common sense.
- czeman, on 05/25/2008, -1/+3That's too bad. Mankind wouldn't need to rely on oil for eternity.
- inboxnews, on 05/25/2008, -0/+5So we complain about $4-a-gallon gas, and our leaders respond with showboating legislation like NOPEC and feel-good environmental regulatory overkill like putting the polar bear on the endangered-species list, while ensuring that we'll continue to bankroll every radical mosque and madrassah on the planet. In Britain, new "green taxes" do nothing to "save" the planet, but they are estimated to cost the average family about $6,000 a year. That's change you can believe in.
