- cababika799, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I would like to know if America is really ready for a time when President's are elected by less than 50% of the overall vote?
Without jumping behind part lines. Just remember what a fiasco was created over the Bush elections when he wasn't elected by much more than 50% (and some would argue that he didn't even get that).
We are headed for a time when the political parties will be divided by dissatisfaction and people will found new parties and fracture the traditional two party system. But please respond intelligently and voice your opinion on whether you think America will be ok with electing a president that has the majority vote at only 35% or 29% or lower depending on how heavily fractured the system becomes. - nicomachus, on 11/16/2007, -0/+0I don't think we need to put much stock in "the overall vote" when that reflects such a small percentage of registered voters anyway. Many officials in state and municipal elections win with plurality votes. I don't think that a Presidential race needs to be so different. In fact, leaving the Electoral College aside, Presidents already take control with only a plurality of the popular vote.
