- Qong, on 05/17/2008, -1/+3I disagree. No matter how you feel about homosexuality, this is an issue about equality, freedom and rights.
California's voters have no right to impede on the freedom and equality of any group of people; whether they be homosexual, black, white, Christian, or anything else. All people should be free to do as they wish, when they wish, within the boundaries of the law. As long as these people are not doing anything to hurt us, then they should be treated as equals. - gmdmartyr, on 05/17/2008, -3/+4VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict, speaking a day after a California court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage, firmly restated on Friday the Roman Catholic Church's position that only unions between a man and a woman are moral.
"The union of love, based on matrimony between a man and a woman, which makes up the family, represents a good for all society that can not be substituted by, confused with, or compared to other types of unions," he said.
What part of "Moral" do some people just don't get? It's what keeps this Nation in check. But, since we are loosing our morality, so goes the Nation! - diamondbigdog, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Qong, the issue is about the law. There is no legal right to gay marriage in the Constitution therefore the issue is left to the states or the individuals. California does not address it so it is left to the people who have decided that the definition of marriage is one man and one woman. That is legal and it violates no one's rights.
The court decided to make a law rather than interpret one. Since there is no legal precedent for what they did they made up a law which is the function of the legislative branch.
The question is, why are we changing centuries of precedent to appease a very small portion of the population. They are not denied services, they are able to will property to each other and appoint each other as powers of attorney. Why do they need to invade a RELIGIOUS institution such as marriage and force a lifestyle that is not sanctioned by any major religion.
Your statement is "within the boundaries of the law." The law made it clear what the definition of marriage was and the judges changed it making it outside the law. Read the Constitution and show me where their rights were violated.
- drachemorder, on 05/17/2008, -3/+2The Catholic church has done well lately reinforcing the fact that support for abortion is incompatible with Christianity. I hope they take an equally strict stand on these fraudulent "marriages" as well.
- diamondbigdog, on 05/16/2008, -4/+2So is Arnie and he will not support any initiative to correct this problem. We need to get rid of the RINOs.
