Who Killed the Constitution? by Thomas E. Woods, Jr.
lewrockwell.com — In a sense, our book states the obvious: the United States government today is restrained not by the Constitution but simply by a sense of what it can get away with.

- roosevans, on 07/08/2008, -0/+16More and more I am getting disgusted with this dysfunctional two party system in America today! More and more I want my vote for President in '08 to be a protest vote! If Obama votes for FISA telecom retro-active immunity my vote will be a protest vote!
- Hangly, on 07/08/2008, -0/+13I don't know if Mr. Woods has been around for the past fifteen years, but what he's talking about is not just a problem with the government, it's a problem with all aspects of our society. It certainly explains Enron and the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
I think the reason things have gone to ***** so precipitously in so short a time is that the baby boomers are completely in charge now. I know they did some great things with civil rights and all, but they've never been people who cared much for the rules.
The Boom generation grew up in a bubble, and as a group they have never once yet had to suffer the consequences of their collective irresponsibility. They've never created much of anything either, they've just coasted on the achievements of past generations and run just about each and every one of them into the ground.
Our reputation as a nation? Ruined.
The economy? Ruined.
Civil infrastructure? Ruined.
Democracy and the election process? Ruined.
The military? Overextended and over-committed, perhaps soon to be ruined.
The faith of the public in all of the above? Ruined.- CCoburn3, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Let's not blame it all on the Boomers. Their parents, "The Greatest Generation" did at least as much if not more to destroy the country.
- Libberkey, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10"To the contrary, we suggest that all three branches of the federal government, either separately or in collusion, have been responsible for turning the Constitution into just a museum piece, and that conservatives and liberals alike have much to answer for as well."
- CCoburn3, on 07/08/2008, -4/+2"A better question, in light of all this, might involve who killed the Articles of Confederation."
The Articles of Confederation collapsed under its own weight. I love the way the people look back with nostalgia on a document that they have never lived under and which the people who did live under it found to be unworkable.- Tarvok, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Can you summarize the problems with it?
- Fangsinmybeard, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6Answer to the headline: Our Congress, Supreme Court, and the President killed the constitution, by wiping their ass with it.
- Chassit, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2No, the true culprits are We, the People. By not doing our diligent duty of keeping our government in check, we have allowed it to grow into an oppressive beast.
- MarkEarhart, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1It sounds like this would be an excellent read for everyone.
