- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38funny, the republicans had to have an independent investigation into a bj, but pedophilia is ok. makes me sick.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32why all of the resistance?
from everything i read in the instant messages i thought foley was all for independent probes. - FlaG8r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33What a shock for the White House that opposed and obstructed an investigation of 9/11
- loveandrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29You said it. A grown man gets a BJ from a grown woman and the Republicans freak out.
A grown man solicits BJs from BOYS and it's not worth looking into. (Apparently they knew since 2001 that he was a freak for the boys.) The Republicans make me sick. Sick sick sick sick sick sick. - jackelsmack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26"very agressive", that will come back to haunt them pretty quickly. There's already enough info to show Hastert was complicit and Reynolds took a $100k bribe to keep quiet. The House leadership is entering a world of pain and the White House hasn't figured to let go of their hand yet.
Their problem is things are happening too fast, they can't keep a story together, individuals are throwing the leadership under the bus to save their own skins. WH will be sorry they didn't just wash their hands of it on day one. - loveandrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18The Independent Council run by Kenneth Starr tried for 2 years to get Clinton but found nothing illegal done by the Clintons. Then Clinton got a blowjob and lied about it like any man would. (It's really not technically *****. He was splitting hairs but come on, it was just a blowjob. Europeans were saying "what the *****? The most powerful man in the world gets a BJ and that surprises you? You ***** stupid Puritans." ) The Ind. Council jumped on it--anything to get Clinton. The Clinton's had their lives dissected for years and that's all they found. A ***** blowjob. And the Republicans still can't let it ***** go. And now they compare Clinton to ***** young boys. Ridiculous.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15whats horrible is alot of them got into office fighting the loose morals of the democratic party after the clinton affair.
Obviously that was just talk. I really wonder if they think their base will buy this crap. I know he was a well liked congressman but you really cant defend a pedo. It is just sick and the people that stood up for this freak will get burned i think.
After all their base is the religious right, i can not see them to happy to see these other congressmen trying to dismiss this as something innocent or partisan. He is a child predator, everyone should distance themselves as far as possible from this guy. - ArcticCelt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Wait, they will also probably vote to legalize pedophilia under some circonstances and the president will have the option to decide in which case it is ok. They will also throw a pardon blanked on all Republicans. Then you will be really sick (nothing would surprise me anymore).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17in other news, the FBI has outsourced it's racketeering wing to the mob. The mob promises to undercover all the corruption the mob is into.
- bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Actually, no, I'd like to know who knew about this child predator's actions, what they did about it, and why he wasn't thrown out on his ass by House leadership.
- Powell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13i agree with all of you. why cover up if its just Foley who is involved in this (which it isn't of course)
- theoneliner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Gay men do not molest little boys....pedophiles do.
Homosexuality and pedophilia are two different things.
As a gay man I'm a little upset the two are even compared. - etnu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I just can't wait for John Stewart to say "The Republican National Convention, or NAMBLA".
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I find it amusing that if and when this sort of thing happens between, for example, a 21 year old and a 17 year old, the guy gets locked up for 5 years or more... and all the usual pundits applaud it, calling him a sicko.
_But_, oh gosh, when it happens to a republican party member and theres a big cover up behind it, now that's an entirely different thing. Suddenly the age of consent is just a legal "detail" and it's not really that important.
Things are always different when you are just a "mere mortal" or a democrat. Republicans are the champions of double-standards and hypocrisy. - youareretarded, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Tired of the truth? Then get this administration out along with all others in congress!
Instead of getting tired of these types of stories being reported why don't you get tired of elected officials acting improperly or not for the benefit of the citizens it's supposed to represent?
All of these stories should be a clue to you that something isn't right and something needs to change and guess what, it's not digg or it's users! - bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Monolith2
"Ephebophilia, also known as hebephilia, is the condition of being sexually attracted primarily or exclusively to adolescents. These terms are used in contrast with pedophilia; however *pedophilia is sometimes used more broadly in the western world to describe both ephebophilia and attraction to younger children, that is, any person younger than the legal age of consent.* Ephebophilia is a term of recent coinage, and does not have broad academic acceptance as constituting a paraphilia."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophilia#Related_terms - lagrange, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Considering that thier 'base' is a mass of poorly educated rednecks who think a magic sky god is going to wisk them off to paradise when they die, I would say... yep, they will buy it.
- Avengelist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think the White House isn't supporting any independent investigations, because they are afraid of where it might lead...
- sgeratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6As I understand it, he could be found guilty under a law which forbids using the Internet to troll for sex with anyone under the age of 18. That'd be the "Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006," a law which, interestingly enough, he co-sponsored. So even apart from the unsavory sexual harassment angle, there's definitely a crime here. Mostly, though, I think the buzz around this case is -- as it always is -- more about the cover-up than the crime.
- grr74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The crusade to destroy Clinton over a private affair was disgusting. It was a campaign to remove him from office, nothing more, nothing less. Clinton did a bad thing, he cheated on his wife. Yet, whenever this happens it must be done within the confines of ones family. It has nothing to do in the public sphere. However, when a politician indulges himself (or herself (let's not be sexist *****)) with children, they should be hounded like any other pedophile in society and punished accordingly (castration??? anyone??? do we have any f**king takers???). And when the fellow GOP politicians know about this and do NOTHING (WTF!!!???????!!!!), they should at best resign the post that the public GAVE and entrusted them with in shame.
- sneakerchad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Typical Republican device: WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS... BLAME CLINTON!!
Goldwater must be crying in heaven right now. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You're confused.
- youareretarded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ChuckFreck
I really hope that was sarcasm! - izzie2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Watch the bohemian grove video that Alex Jones did and you'll get an idea of how widespread homosexuality is in the upper echolons of society.

Seems theres alot to hide. - geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's the only angle they have here. You can't say you're not surprised. After talking about honor, integrity and family values, you just knew there were a few skeletons in the closet. Let's see what the FBI turns up, methinks there's more to this story than meets the eye. Was there an active cover up? Bribes? Was Foley, who once didn't toe the party line, forced to vote with other republicans in exchange for not releasing this information. Imagine that, "Don't worry about Foley, I'll make sure he votes our way. *snicker* *snicker*". I don't think a partisan(read: DOJ) investigation can do the job here - they won't want to shoot themselves in the foot.
This will get more interesting. If republicans try to delay an investigation given the upcoming eletions, they look weak on pedophilia(who cares about the legal age of 16 - does the voter care? no.). If the investigation happens before the election, it won't be good. Republicans, if they were smart, will just let a few politicians get the axe. But you know that won't happen. They'll try to control what the FBI does(like what Karl Rove did in Texas), and that will make things much worse. The worst enemy of the republicans is themselves. - pen25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3nope. what i really want is everything to be even. both dem and republican. i vote for whos best and who has upheld the same beliefs as me. not party line. anyway what this guy did was like a cop who takes your drugs and turns around and sells them back to you at a markup of course and busts you again. he was a proponent to allot of legislation for the exact crimes he is accused of commiting. IMHO thats just plain wrong. does it warent an independant investigation? i think so but only if its actually done and not white washed. now lets see AG do what he talks about and goes after this guy like he does the average joe. if it were you or I we would be sitting in jail.
- imjustsayin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The age of consent varies from State to State. You are correct however, 16 is the age of consent in Washington DC.
Although I don't necessarily agree with it, according to the law, as far as I can tell, he is guilty of no more than sexual banter with a employee.
If there was a cover up, that is a different matter. Funny how in so many cases the cover up is a worse offense than what they are trying to cover up. - kooft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@lagrange
"thier 'base' is a mass of poorly educated rednecks"
Indeed, and a malignant mass at that, which should be excised immediately (within the next 5 weeks). - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Unwanted" sexual advances, buddy. If she's gagging for it, there's nothing to sue over.
- spankaccount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To be fair, Think Progress is funded by the Democrats. Propaganda doesn't get a Digg.
- spankaccount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is IMing a 16 or 18 year old the same as child molestation? Just asking. I'm glad Foley is gone.
- fpillet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@supernova17: when the link goes to factual news without opinions, the web site reporting them doesn't really matter. Now when it's opinion, it may be biased, more often than not. Like, say, 99% of the "news" coming from michelle malkin, for example. Try to find one there that's not slanted ;-)
I'm all for separating real news from opinion on Digg (maybe with a subsection or something). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Never mind
- acrim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can anyone expand on that..? What is the age of consent in the US, then?
- acrim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I thought the age of consent was 16 in most of America, or am I confused?
- bobbknight, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Think Progress makes Angela Davis and Gus Hall look like Red Staters.
I have my grain of salt ready. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@ bbatsell
Exactly. It's not pedophilia. Just because the western world gets into hysterics every time someone younger than 18 is put in a sexual situation doesnt make everyone a pedophile. Pedophilia covers people who are attracted to 4 year olds, not 16 year olds. - acrim, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1So he's neither a peadophile or a predator, just guilty of deception... talk about sensationalism.
Cheers for the info. - ChuckFreck, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Aw Jeez, do you have any idea how much money it will cost to have an independent investigation? The guy is ruined politically. Isn't that what you really want?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Anyone else getting sick from all these Think Progress stories?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3Uhh.. once they're 16 it's not pedophilia any more. They're just under the age of consent.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3Do we really need a multi-million dollar "independent investigation" every time a politician picks his butt? For ***** sake, he tried to diddle a 16 year old, we dont need the god damn 9/11 commission on the case.
- ChuckFreck, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1Clinton was not investigated for getting a bj. He was investigated for lots of other things and about 14 of his friends went to jail for things that involved the Clintons too. The bj problem came about because of a personal law suit by Paula "I'm a skank" Jones. And Clinton was impeached for telling a lie under oath in a court of law, not for getting a bj. Sheesh, some people are so dense.
