- WafflePirate, on 01/22/2009, -0/+12This'll be interesting and useful for those of you who love complaining about things to the government.
- ryrocker, on 01/23/2009, -0/+7
this is going to make my life so much easier
=] - mmittimm, on 01/23/2009, -1/+7I'll just stick with Wikipedia.
- praha, on 01/23/2009, -0/+5Now, if only other countries would respond in kind...unbelievable.
You've got to love open source collection! Thanks WaPo. - zyklon, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4Very useful, this is nice to have. Now I know who to write to when I read the sensational headlines.
- Cannonballkid, on 01/23/2009, -1/+4Facebook for elected officials
- Rageous, on 01/23/2009, -1/+4Cute, but this only has plainly-obvious elected officials. The REAL who's whos are the consultants running the races. No Rebecca Donatelli? Joe Trippi? Chris Hughes? Dick Wadhams? No point.
- bipolarruledout, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3I love this.... something we need more of. When people go to vote do they have any idea of who they are voting for? Especially local offices non-partisan positions.
- scout29c, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3May prove interesting. I checked and only one of my senators is listed and my representative is not there, so it needs work, and like a lot of stuff on the internet, it may be more promise than product. Like a lot of blogs that draw a lot of attention at first and then are ignored after the intro period ends. Or it could be like Wikipedia and whenever you Google some noteworthy government dude, this site pops to the top.
I would like to know exactly who is working for my reps in Washington and how many are from my home state. Who is lobbing my reps?
Will the WaPo tag all the people in pictures around Obama or some Congress-dude and I can click and go to this site and get info? That would be nice.
I’ll bookmark it and check it out later and if it fattens up with info and I use it, Mr. Clean will not remove it from my bookmarks. - torressr3, on 01/23/2009, -1/+4check out the profile for Obama:
http://whorunsgov.com/Profiles/Barack_Obama
in the childhood section first paragraph:
"The name Barack means “blessing from God""
it truly seems like it :) - Eugenis, on 01/23/2009, -2/+5Now I'm waiting google.gov :)
- fmaxwell, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Why are you surprised that the auto industry would donate more to politicians who support them? That's like being surprised that Planned Parenthood donates more to pro-choice candidates or that the NRA donates more to candidates who have a history of opposing gun control.
Critical Thinking 101:
You need to establish whether the House members voted in favor of the bailout because they got donations from the auto industry *OR* whether the auto industry made the donations because those House members tended to vote in ways that helped the auto industry. Now if you could show that, for example, Ron Paul had voted 15 times in a row against federal bailouts of private firms and then suddenly voted in favor of this bailout a week after GM gave him a big donation, then you might have something. - MaryellenC, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Interesting site thanks for the heads up on this one.
- jsffive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Just a few days late, don't you think?
Go ahead, look up the cabinet members from the LAST administration... There are GLARING omissions.
I suspect that the people at the Washington Post didn't want to get tired of typing "AIPAC" in all those entries. And I suspect that they will try to gloss over the entries for our new rulers as well.
No. I won't be fooled into ever reading anything that the Washington Post prints ever again. They had a chance to inform us about the lies that led us into a war with a nation that never attacked us, BEFORE we were well past the point of no return... and they INTENTIONALLY dropped the ball! - inactive, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3America...***** Yeah!
- freakzp, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2We need to make a database but who took bribes
- wefandango, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3i for one am just excited for all the leaps and bounds america is taking to bridge this kind of gap. we're seeing this in just a few short days obama has been in office - obviously not specifically because of him, but i'd like to think the zeitgeist is shifting (please digg me down for the word zeitgeist) towards an era where ready availability, (and thus transparency) is the name of the game as far as information about our leaders is concerned.
- stevelectric, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2Political consultants have a lot of influence because they place the millions of dollars of television advertising that swings elections, Click Link:

The information on your voter registration form can be sold to groups other than political campaigns, Click Link:
http://www.communati.com/steve-lee/think-privacy - SniperGX1, on 01/23/2009, -2/+4Politicians receive bribes, nothing new here.
P.S. Your caps lock key seems to have gotten stuck. - trucanadian, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2who keeps old newspapers around for the sole purpose of looking up government figures when need be?
- Zippo, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Oh yeah, this won't be bias or anything. Even Wikipedia is better than this.
- trucanadian, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2This is extremely useful. There are so many reps and even if u manage to remember them all they have all changed within 4 years anyways. I wish governments would make information like this more easily available.
- doom777, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2I am just afraid of skynet.gov
- virtualonliner, on 01/23/2009, -1/+2The gov should have done this a long time ago on its on. This is going to be very useful.
- yessuz, on 01/23/2009, -1/+2Is it possible that Washington Post Launches Database of Political Who is Poo?
- stevelectric, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Rageous- You raised an interesting point, there are thousands of registered "political consultants," some of them who wear other hats as lobbyists and chamber of commerce staffers.
Just about anybody can be a political consultant nowadays with all the information available on registered voters, Click Link:
http://www.communati.com/steve-lee/think-privacy
There are now "Red and Blue" Websites where everybody can sign-up and be a political commentator, Click Link:
http://www.communati.com/steve-lee/political - inactive, on 01/24/2009, -1/+2maybe the wapo should release this list instead:
http://digg.com/political_opinion/The_Communist_Ta ... - inactive, on 07/23/2009, -0/+1I just read his profile! He is really an amazing guy. Salute to the President!
http://www.wealthyaffiliate-exposed.com/ - katedog, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1I second that! America...***** YEAH!
- inactive, on 07/23/2009, -0/+1or the stupid people like Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rove and Libby?
- secrity, on 01/23/2009, -1/+1Newspapers and magazines are also very useful for providing information like this. Many newspapers used to publish this information, this is an extension of that.
- secrity, on 01/23/2009, -2/+1Also Newsweek and Slate
- Barackalypse, on 01/23/2009, -3/+1No, my caps lock key is fine, the site that was pasted from had it that way.
- Barackalypse, on 01/23/2009, -7/+4Here's a far more useful tool, showing for every vote how much money individual Congressmen received from special interest groups supporting or opposing the bill.
For example, on the automotive bailout/financing bill "HOUSE MEMBERS VOTING 'YES' ON AUTO INDUSTRY BAILOUT RECEIVED, ON AVERAGE, 65% MORE FROM AUTO INDUSTRY INTERESTS THAN THOSE VOTING 'NO'"
http://www.maplight.org/node/55201 - Linguo, on 01/22/2009, -15/+3WTF. I'm not on the list as "most awesome and most powerful person on Earth"
