- shabumike, on 12/08/2007, -6/+38"But from the beginning this has been an ill-considered and poorly prosecuted war that, like the Vietnam War, has diminished respect for America." - diminished damn near all respect, even that of many of it's own citizens.
- inactive, on 12/08/2007, -7/+30They shouldn't be there in the first place.
- thebellmaster1x, on 12/08/2007, -4/+25In before some crap about "Oh, it's from Crooks and Liars, so it's obviously liberal propaganda" even though they quote Cronkite exactly.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -2/+16LOL
the 24 percenters try to smear Walter Cronkite. It's ***** hilarious. The guy is only the litmus paper test of what it is to be an American. You right wing shills really are a bunch of phonies. You don't understand what America stands for and you are totally out of touch. You are the minority. Get used to it. - TheSwashbuckler, on 12/08/2007, -2/+14"You know what would make Iraq like the Vietnam war?"
Another generation of Bushes not going into the combat zone? - inactive, on 12/08/2007, -2/+13Criticize that old man all you want. Walter Cronkite has seen more wars in his life time than the USA ever fought.
- inactive, on 12/08/2007, -2/+12Also, it took Saddam 30 years to kill all those people. Even if Bush has killed half as many he's killing far more per year.
- arplayer2k, on 12/08/2007, -7/+16The same people who are bashing the source or Cronkite here are the ones who probably think: Oh its from Fox News, a name we can tust. LOL. They are tunnel visioned and stuck on the details, instead of the bigger picture. Typical.
I think America is doomed because of the people (who voted President Chimp and Lord Cheney), then because of the persistent actions of the President. Our ignorance and head-up-our-ass attitude is causing our own demise; our civil liberties to be stripped away at an alarming and accelerating rate; and more people world wide have animosity towards us as a country/people because of our actions. Good job America! - insanebrain, on 12/08/2007, -5/+13If you would be able to think for yourself, you would agree with walter.
- didgital, on 12/08/2007, -0/+8And that's the way it is... unfortunately.
- inactive, on 12/08/2007, -3/+10The US killed 3 million Vietnamese in that war. Pardon me for thinking that's a little worse than what happened to the boat people.
In any case, the embargo that the US slapped on Vietnam after the war indirectly caused far more deaths through starvation and disease than anything the Communists did. - RossDuprey, on 12/08/2007, -6/+13How bout you take some of your own advice and not share your opinion with the world? http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Could_I_have_bee ...
Jerk. - inactive, on 12/08/2007, -2/+9You mean old men like Bush and Cheney?
- banmaster, on 12/08/2007, -0/+6Oh god, here we go again "b, b, but Clinton!!!"
Clinton was never even 1/8th as bad as ***** Bush has been!! - banmaster, on 12/08/2007, -0/+6What mission? To stay in there for the rest of time to the US military Industrial Complex can milk the US taxpayers for everything they have and then even more!
Just pull the damn troops out NOW!! - banmaster, on 12/09/2007, -1/+7You mean the embedded journalists who get what they are allowed to report on completely dictated by the military and the While House?
- banmaster, on 12/09/2007, -4/+9Its NOT made up. It IS however an estimate, but based on pretty reliable evidence.

http://www.justforeignpolicy.org/iraq/iraqdeaths.h ... - inactive, on 12/08/2007, -3/+83...2...1... until some ***** repeats the lie about how the NVA were ready to surrender until they heard Cronkite call the Tet Offensive a success.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -2/+7Clinton didn't start a war.
- WebWorker, on 12/08/2007, -6/+11Bush Reign : 1 million civilians dead.
Saddam Reign : 300,000 civilians dead.
Now I'm not trying to say who's better than who.. I'm trying to say that they look to be about the same in my estimation. - inactive, on 12/09/2007, -1/+6Bosnia was a war that we got involved in, but we didn't start it.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -2/+6hehe, 'the Surge'. The surge is nothing more than a PR exercise. Will you be dragging out the 'mission accomplished' banner? The surge can't be maintained, it's pissing into the wind. The Iraq war is already lost - by the incompetent chickenhawks who 'planned' it. You got suckered - *again* - by the Bush Admin's media gaff. How many times can you Rubes be conned before you start to wake up and realise you are a bunch of dupes? I suppose the effort you put into resisting the truth is because you can't face up to the fact you've been suckered so many times.
It takes a lot of energy to deny the truth day in, day out, year after year. Meanwhile those of us out here in reality just have to wait until your energy runs out and you finally crack up. :) - inactive, on 12/08/2007, -3/+7Thanks to Fox 'News' there is no longer a debate.
- reedatschool, on 12/08/2007, -2/+6Sounds like your pissed with all the communists and capitalists. You also seem to have a great disdain for Al Gore so I guess that means you hate environmentalists. So what side are you on then?
- zcreem, on 12/08/2007, -0/+4You are not given worthy candidates by the major parties, and the independent voice remains just that a voice.
- aaabatteries, on 12/08/2007, -2/+6I love this guy. =)
- bsmang, on 12/09/2007, -1/+5Hey Champ, that one-world gov't thing would be better than Bush's envisioned one-dictator US. And yeah Warty, there sure are a lot of bottom feeders here tonight... I guess it IS Saturday night. The good young liberal folks must be out getting laid or something.
- vade79, on 12/09/2007, -0/+4Actually, they (journalists) use to the be the buffer of sanity... the ironic thing about your statement is we are closer to collapsing than ever before partly because of it.
- trav1970, on 12/08/2007, -4/+7"We are not educated well enough to perform the necessary act of intelligently selecting our leaders." - Walter Cronkite.
He is right on both accounts... (This quote & story header..) - rocket777, on 12/09/2007, -0/+3Incredible, this issue really divides Americans into decent human beings that wish to live peaceably with the rest of the world, and those that don't. I think the only way to solve the problems here are to look at how war making and profiteering are dealt with in this country.
We should never go to war without a declaration, and I would like to see an amendment to the constitution that states that in a declared war no munitions company can make any profits. If our young people can be enslaved by the draft (and don't kid yourself that this is not coming), then our corporations should also be enslaved. Then, perhaps, we would not go to war so easily.
What I don't really understand is the hatred in the hearts of so many Americans. It can't be for the deaths on 9/11 since otherwise there would be outrage that this non-declared war has cost more lives and suffering than 9/11 by an order of magnitude. That an educated and older man who lived through this countries horror of the Viet Nam war is called names and considered irrelevant is a statement of just how depraved many in this country have become. - shabumike, on 12/08/2007, -2/+5Walter Cronkite commands more respect than any person that ever has or will work at fox noise. Disrespecting a wise and experienced soldier of journalism such as him merely spreads your ignorance across a line of lemming like intellect.
- inactive, on 12/08/2007, -3/+6***** Bush. For lying, for cheating, for corrupting this nation and losing friends all over the world.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -1/+4Dunno, why should it matter what a blather idiot like yourself says?
- dd12101, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2walter who?
- Burrito, on 12/09/2007, -1/+3You don't know jack ***** about history, do you?
- roodammy44, on 12/09/2007, -1/+3Because one opinion is based in the real world and the other is based inside a world of propaganda and nationalism
- kb835935, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2Yes, suggesting we are near the "jaws of victory" sounds VERY sensible.
- IheartRonnyP, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2Well then, looks like ol' Cronkite should vote for Ron Paul.
- roodammy44, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2Ahhh, this is the version of "thinking for yourself" where you think everything the president tells you to
- debunker101, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Now if ol Walter would just give up his membership in the CFR, and also resign as a 32nd degree Mason, he might stand a better chance of being more believable......maybe even give up going to the Bohemian Grove?
- mr5150, on 12/08/2007, -7/+9Walter Cronkite must visit digg and has seen the "bring soldiers home" sentiments on our boards.
While your at it Walter why not show us some real Cajones and start rallying for impeachments in the MSM world. - jetboyterp, on 12/09/2007, -2/+4@Wartyboskfapped
What was Bosnia? - inactive, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2Another alias, another report.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2He asks the same question everyday.
- m0tbaillie, on 12/09/2007, -5/+7How is the ***** is that liberal propaganda? The man revolutionized the news media and the nature of broadcast news as we know it. He was telling it like it was far before most of our parents were even born. Get *****.
- rcook18, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1You are to young to know that there are some journalists, such as Walter Cronkite, who cannot be bought and know what they are talking about. It was not always the case that the media was completely for hire.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1Win What? What constitutes victory in Iraq?
- motters, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1The last paragraph provides a good summary of the situation:
"It is not likely, however, that Congress will act unless the American people make their voices heard with unmistakable clarity. That is the way the Vietnam War was brought to an end. It is the way that the Iraq War will also be brought to an end. The only question is whether it will be now, or whether the war will drag on, with all the suffering that implies, to an even more tragic, costly and degrading defeat. We will be a better, stronger and more decent country to bring the troops home now." - VinBea, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1the guy's pic is at the top...
- dd12101, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1You really don't beleive that do you,,,,
