- ezzonguard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+79it is very sad how journalists in the US has completely failed in checking these folks. "The casual recklessness and arrogance of these people never cease to amaze". I think a hard long look at why we do not see interviews like this on main stream US media. Even John Stewart, when interviewing Bolton, gave him a free ride...
- Tabou, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44That explains the white mustache.
- smackywentz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43Yeah, as of late Jon Stewart has been fluffing everyone that comes on his show. I realize he is a comedian and not a 'real' journalist. But the truth is he is the only 'real' journalist we got, he needs to start acting like it.
- iainc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40Nice to see Mr Paxman ripping into this fascist filth.

"I think I can speak for all people living in UK when I say Paxman is a dick. He's not generally liked here.
Bolton actually came out as a rather nice chap in that clip."
Four statements in three sentences, and not one even remotely based in fact. Impressive.

In your little circle-jerk of friends, Paxman may not be popular, but in my experience, he is a well liked and respected man, who is DAMN good at his job.
You have NO right to delare yourself the voice of Britain, especially when your opinion is so obviously not in line with the general concensus. - codmate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Paxman is a true British hero.
Our politicians here in the UK may not be much better than those in the US - but at least they have to answer to real journalists.
I'm consistantly shocked when I see news shows from the US.
I'll *never* forget seeing Fox news covering the 'Shock and awe' part of the Iraq war.
The coverage consisted of a bunch of guys whooping and cheering as if they were watching a fireworks display.
American culture seems to become more and more brutal and violent as the years pass.
Yesterday's unimaginable horrible events are yet another example of this.
American politicians are loving it. The American love of violence and worship of ordinance means that they don't even need to try and give good reasons to go to war.
As we have seen time and time again, the reasons given by politicians for going to war in Iraq simply don't stand up to scrutiny.
42815 people were killed on American roads in 2002. Far more than were killed by terrorist activity in the same year, yet there is no "War On Cars", or a road-safety campaign costing anything like the "War on Terror". I guess lives lost to road accidents are worth less than lives lost to terrorist activity... - togra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30I think I can speak for all people living in UK when I say over9 is a dick. He's not generally liked here.
JP was actually relatively restrained in this interview. I assume he was thrown off by the sheer level of stupidity, arrogance and hypocracy coming from John Bolton. I can't believe they gave this wanker a job as a diplomat. Hey Mr Diplomat, do you think it is a good idea to accuse one of your only remaining allies of being cowards? - pygar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30The interviewer's name in this clip is Jeremy Paxman, and he's famous in the UK for giving politicians a hard time.
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29I had no idea anyone could kick so much ass. wtf is up with interviews in our country that we can't have things that awesome on TV? Oh yeah, our media isn't publicly funded and says what its CEOs it to, fact or fiction. It cares about money, not the truth.
You know this didn't even used to be the case. Watch Good Night, and Good Luck and you'll see what I mean. We actually used to think for ourselves in this country. - smackywentz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31What the hell are you talking about the bias isn't nearly as flagrant or frequent? Have you become so used to it you don't realize you're seeing it anymore, click on Fox or CNN. Seriously, ftw
- whorelock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Most U.S. journalist are meek in comparison to their British counterparts. All politicians need a firm dose of reality, too bad the media doesn't fill that hole.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27@airiox
I think you'll find Paxman is like this with all sides. He just can't stand the spin and ***** they tend to spout to cover their own asses. He will push any Politician to get to the truth, Left, Right, or Monter Raving Looney. - Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Actually, the whole Israel-Palestine thing is an interesting case. Both for the BBC and NPR (who seem to be the only news outlets that have even looked seriously at their own reporting when letters claiming bias arrive) have found that pretty much no matter what they do, both sides claim bias in favor of their opposing party. Both news outlets try to give the background and history of the conflicts there whenever possible, but the reporters admit that they only have so much time and the situation is so complex, it's impossible to give a listener who hasn't grown up around it the entire picture (at least, not to the satisfaction of those who complain).
Hell, there was even a study where pro-Arab and pro-Israel people were shown the same unedited footage: http://www.npr.org/programs/totn/transcripts/2006/jul/060731.vedantam.html
Both sides claimed there was a lot of bias against their camp and lots of pro-points to the other camp. From the SAME FOOTAGE. So you might want to examine your own opinions before getting out the torches and pitchforks. - KlayBorg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Channels such as BBC (and to an extent the ABC in Australia) are brilliant platforms for political opinion. These channels then prompt further discussion on other networks about these important issues, pressuring them to make hard hitting decisions and interviews.
- int3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25@over9
Paxman has more bollocks than you'll ever have. What gives you the right to proclaim what the country thinks?
*****. - PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25mmmm....so good to see these people actually having to confront real questions from real journalists...
and seeing how utterly stupid they look when this happens. When are we going to to take our journalists up to task and ensure they stop with the softball ***** and start actually working for stories? - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22your name suits your comments
- motters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Jeremy "Paxo" Paxman is a formidable interviewer and a very smart fellow. Actually I think the guy got off very lightly in this case.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Sky news = Fox News
It's funny to watch it every so often just to see how bad it is. - MCMookie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28John Bolton is a miserable *****.
- KlayBorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Well, most are. If you watch sky news in the UK (24 hour news channel) they are just as full of fluff as their American counterparts, however that is an exception, not the rule.
- iainc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Umm, and who is Sky News owned by? Another corporate sociopath. Just as bad as Faux News.
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Paxman is great at calling politicians out on their *****.....

- Cirieno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16@over9
Don't you ever presume to speak for me, you arrogant arse. - KlayBorg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Are you serious? That guy reeked of ignorance and stupidity! This is how you DON'T run a country nor be a leader!
- miketron, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21Why are we scare of IRAN having nuclear capabilities when this interview clearly states the "powers that be" in the US opinions. The US have 2600+ nuclear weapons. The US is the capital of the school shooting. The US is the only country to EVER use a nuclear weapon against a civillian population. Iran scares the ***** out of me, but not as much as America.
- arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14"Umm, and who is Sky News owned by? Another corporate sociopath. Just as bad as Faux News."
Not another, the same. Sky News is has the same parent organisation as Fox News. - togra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15airiox. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. How many of Paxman's interviews have you watched? One? He gives a hard time to any politician who is dishonest, ignorant, evasive or hypocritical - which includes most politicians from most parties. Take your 'liberal bias' whining elsewhere.
- crestfall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"faint of heart..."
John falls back on the tried and true response to those who question conservative authority: call them fags!
You should go fight in Iraq, Bolton - you would fit in perfectly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@over9
and you were still wrong.
Friendly word of advice. When it becomes obvious that your opinion is not the same as most other peoples, although you are still perfectly within your rights to state your opinion, you are a fool if you still try to state is is the general concensus of a whole country.
ie
"I think Paxman is a dick, and I don't like him" is fine
"I think I can speak for all people living in UK when I say Paxman is a dick. He's not generally liked here." - arrogant douchebaggery of the highest order
see the difference?
@rhys0
hint: read the comments - iainc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14@over9: Arrogant blowhard. You don't speak for me at all. Paxman may not be the nicest chap in the world, but the world need more journalists like him. Bolton, like his masters, is just another two-faced slimeball.
In spite of his misgivings, he stayed on-message and loyal to the man at the top. What a jerk.

"He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once." -- Albert Einstein - Vitamin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12>Paxman seems to forget that it was not only just the American intel that claimed WMD/ability to create WMDs >existed, but the British gov't as well
Paxo knows this full well and has questioned British politicians about it many times. He goes after the interviewee he has in front of him. - Spankov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"I am not affiliated with any political party. I am just stating the obvious truth. You can't deny that Paxman is generally disliked in the UK."
Just to reiterate; Paxman is generally held in high regard by most people in not only the media but in everyday life.
He's renowned for asking tough questions and demanding honest, straightforward answers. - KlayBorg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Public Broadcasting Corporations - NPR, BBC"
Don't forget Australia with the ABC... please? They made chasers! - BBeerB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@mrfx2
"John Bolton is ok by me"
I know there was a reason why I almost blocked you once upon a time, now it is just clear as day. Your lack of intelligent process and or thought should be enough to have your voting rights revoked, because people like you voted this administration into power. - laserdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Favorite Question:
"Is there not an American responsibility having invaded a country, dismantled all the apparatus of government to ensure that the citizens of that country are not murdered?" - TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"Yeah, as of late Jon Stewart has been fluffing everyone that comes on his show"
Stewart wasn't always like that, he has just recently become to popular to lead any kind of journalistic reshaping in the industry, that he is willing to make himself look more of the tool than bombarding the guests with the real heavy questions that would easily make anyone uneasy. I miss the old stewart, the old stewart who proded his guest with the questions that was on everyones minds but added the comical relief for added effect not the other way around. I miss the Stewart that called Tucker Carlson of CNN a "Dick" on TV. - demonstro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If this hasn't already been added - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/newsnight25/4182569.stm
Paxman at his best with one of the UK's slimiest polititians of the time.... - iainc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@over9: You said Paxman was a "dick" and that he was generally disliked here in the UK. Other than claiming to be the voice of every Briton, and that Bolton was an awfully nice chap, you left it at that. You never once said Paxman was a good journalist in spite of your own opinion, so what are we to infer?
I'd wager that Paxman is fairly well-liked in the UK precisely because (a) the man is totally impervious to *****, and (b) we enjoy seeing the sultans of spin being made to stew in their own stinking juices.
You got handed your arse because you presumed to voice our opinions for us. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@Dumbledorito
Exactly. The best proof of unbiased reporting is when both sides think you favour the other side. - MisterRik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8And, contrary to the belief of some in this thread, we love him for it :)
- mrbenns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Paxman went VERY easy on Bolton in this clip, all the politicians in the uk are afraid to go onto Newsnight to be interviewed by him because he takes ZERO ***** from them
- davesbrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8All any journalist needs to do is bring up the contradictions of this administration. Nobody can make them look bad, they do that all by themselves, all you need to do is point out the facts.
- nomore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8quote: "Let Iraq be Iraq and if they AGAIN become a threat to the US and/or the UN, the US will be back."
I don't think there were a threat to start with. - MrTonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That explains a lot. It looks that republicans are nothing else but a bunch of yes-men under dictator wanna-be. No wonder they created this mess.
Get a spine for crying out loud. (That goes to dems as well) - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCo7qbzEX3c
