In America today freedom is a fantasy that is constantly touted by the press and the sheep-like populace. I built a beautiful house on a beach in the Tenth Region in Chile. No architect, no liscenced contractor, no government inspectors, no fire codes, no paperwork. That is an example of freedom.
In Chile you will see that there is discourse with a plethora of ideas, not limited to our weird closed-in limitation of Republican and Democrat, both of which serve the same constituency, Big business, big health consortium, Military Industrial complex. Americans seem to me to be basically blind, closed off from other ideas from around the world and perplexed as to why others are so offended by our military adventures. Why don't they realize what every American knows, that we are the most moral, most free, most creative and industrious people in the world?
It isn't so. It was once. This country, my beloved United States of America was the beacon of moral rectitude and freedom to the rest of the world. Listen to Ricardo Lagos or Alvaro Uribe often quote Washington, Jefferson and Franklin. They know more about our history than we do and they know how the emergent USA was the example followed by San Martin in Argentina and Bolivar in the north of South America. Our country showed the way to the world how a Constitutional government based on the rule of law, the rights of the individual and a free market would allow people to live lives of prosperity and dignity.
We have lost that, and your knee jerk nationalism will not help us get it back. Freedom is dead in this country, and if the sheep don't look up from the trough, it isn't coming back. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why do other countries elect quality leaders? Vicente Fox is a case in point. He did a damn good job in a very difficult position. What about Ricardo Lagos in Chile from 99 until '05? What about Uribe in Colombia? Can't we elect an educated, honest man or woman who has not spend their life suckling on the teats of royal Washington?
