- drum_bum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Really? Even though it is impossible for him to become the President. Section 1 of Article 2 of the U.S. Constitution states that a President must:
1. be a natural born citizen of the united States
2. be at least 35 years old
3. have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years
He's not a natural born citizen so he can't become President. - kencyber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's pretty amazing to hear that coming from him. A lot of democrats in congress don't go so far as to say we need to have a deadline. I think there was a recent poll where only about 17% of American support an immediate withdrawal, although 67% agree we need to change course.
I'm among the few that support an immediate withdrawal. To see what the future of America will look like if we keep fighting this war, just look at what happened to Russia when they prolonged the war in Afghanistan. There's nothing to win here. It pisses me off when I hear people say we have to stay and keep fighting until we "win". Win what?!?
Our troops are the bravest and most committed in the world. They've done an outstanding job, but the job is done and we need to bring them home now! - kencyber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At some point, you have to realize that our presence there is not helping the situation at all. Iraqis are headstrong and determined to rule their own way (through sectarian rule) and no amount of peace-making and law will be sufficient to sway their view.
Did we ever ask the Iraqi population what they wanted? The elections only chose leaders who could speak in their interest but does this really represent the will of the people? It seems like we just used our own Christian values and moral standards to determine what Iraq should be. It's time we took a step back, open a dialog with the people and determine the best course of action for Iraq. Let them sort out their sectarian differences and learn how to cooperate with each other.
They are in the midst of a civil war that is only getting worse with each passing day. How do you stop a war that is based on ethnic and religious issues. We cannot change their thinking any more than we could change their religious beliefs or ethnicity. - NICU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would love to see the troops come home as much as you would, but Iraq is in a horrible position right now and since we're the ones who caused it we should be held responsible for fixing it. Its the whole "you break it you bought it" mentality. We're trying to spread our democracy to other nations (Iraq/Afghanistan) and we need to be an example. We need to take responsibility for our actions, and we have made some very bad decisions. I think if we were to set a realistic time frame it would be many years before the troops can come home.
- shawnfassett, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Schwarznegger will only become President if Enron bankrupts the all important states of Ohio, New York, Texas & Florida.
It could still happen...(fingers crossed!)
Whatever. He's the king of borrow & spend. The big FU to the future of any constituents who find themselves in any GOP backyard. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, even thoug it _at present_ is impossible for him to become president. He's done a good job in California, and even though I'm no longer a republican I'd consider voting for him (depending on the alternative, of course).
If the conservatives could agree on him as a candidate, they could change the "only those born in the US can be president" rule. Actually that is one amendment I'd be in favor of, it's a stupid rule: any US citizen should be allowed to run for president IMO. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1I still see Schwarzenegger as the next US president.
