- dshPls, on 11/06/2007, -4/+16The science is still out on man-made global warming from what I've seen, I just want both sides to freely debate. Oh yeah, good jab at unrelated BDS talking points.
- dshPls, on 11/08/2007, -10/+22*****, someone has a dissenting view! I want to see both arguments, not just Al Gores. Maybe he's right, maybe not.. but why can't we hear both sides of the argument? Skepticism is extremely important.
- dshPls, on 11/10/2007, -7/+18So only people with the same views as yourself deserve to be on TV? You seem like the type who wants the Fairness Doctrine brought back too.
- afruff23, on 11/08/2007, -10/+21Sorry Al Gore, but you and the IPCC have politicized man-made Global Warming way too much. It is becoming very hard to sift the truth from falsehoods. Man-made global warming is now at the level of a thesis, while a spherical earth is a theory. The 2 are very different, and I thought a supposed man of science would understand that.
There are ex-members of the IPCC who spoke out against this polticized style of "science" and they don't take money from energy companies. Al Gore, the debate is not over, so stop trying to silence some legitimate criticisms.
As for paid shills denying man-made global warming, denounce them all you want. I'm all for that, but don't group those scum with the man-made global warming deniers who aren't paid shills.
I thought the Digg population, generally independent free-thinkers, would see past all this ***** and remain skeptical? Guess I was wrong... - inactive, on 11/10/2007, -4/+12Hey "Insightful", care to explain why other planets and moons in our solar system are also warming? Is thinking that the Sun's irradiance might have a lot to do with the current warming really like thinking that the Earth is flat?
- dunderballer, on 11/06/2007, -6/+14Al Gore need to stop "polluting" science with politics
- Vicujozobenaxod, on 11/06/2007, -10/+16It's hard to tell if he's an eco-fascist or just plain stupid. I guess this is another case of "don't cloud the issues with facts", mmm?
***** Algor. - inactive, on 11/10/2007, -5/+11What are you talking about?
- Itazura, on 11/06/2007, -0/+5"And the people who still think the earth is flat are those in jungle tribes who haven't seen pictures of the earth or heard of the internet."
Or people on the popular television show The View watched by millions. America is dumber than you think. - dshPls, on 11/06/2007, -1/+6Please post the said facts.
- typicalusername, on 11/10/2007, -4/+9Hey, if you want the other left wing crap... Go to every other news service.
- jeffiek, on 11/11/2007, -1/+5"And in any case, why would anyone argue against protecting the environment? To me, this is the equivalent of defending pedophiles or murderers."
Maybe they're NOT arguing against protecting the environment. Maybe they're arguing against WHO protects the environment. Does it make any sense to hire a wolf to protect the chickens? Or pedophiles to protect children?
Many of us believe, and have substantial evidence, that governments aren't very good at doing anything other than being violent. That they do well.
Hasn't the thought that government intervention could be the WORST way to protect the environment crossed your mind? Don't bother, I can tell from post you think the idea is ludicrous. Don't let the facts get in your way. Just ignore the environmental record of the US Military, or the way they handle nuclear waste. Ignore that the overwhelming percentage of forest fires are public land, while private forests are well-cared for. Ignore the fact that the EPA issues permits to pollute and once they do those permits become legal defense against any damage the polluters cause. Ignore the fact that the Price-Anderson act protects the nuclear industry against liability.
They have a terrible track record of doing most anything. Except war. They're good at that. - inactive, on 11/07/2007, -3/+7*Solar warming
- rcook18, on 11/06/2007, -4/+8Let's see some investigative journalism here. Time for MSM to quit cowering -- there must have been a time when the news was not for sale.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -3/+7If the earth had a brain, we would already be gone...
- chris9902, on 11/06/2007, -4/+8So it's his way or you're wrong? Wow, good job he didn't get in power.
And did he really just compare those that disagree with him to those who think the earth is flat? what a tool. - bratpack8, on 11/08/2007, -6/+10Watch out, it's Gore-bull warming! Because no one would want to hear scientists talk about how glaciers were much smaller throughout history, oh no,, not the facts jack
http://digg.com/environment/Oops_Glaciers_are_Bigg ... - snowball69, on 11/06/2007, -1/+4Ummm... no. If a debate were about absolute and objective facts there would obviously be nothing to debate.
A debate is intended to establish a viewpoint.
It is a philosophical question whether truly objective "facts" exist for humans since all "factual" assertions depend ultimately upon largely unprovable a-priori assertions. Witness post-modernism et. al. where everything is relative. This is no more evident than where discussions stray into areas of religious and political faith - Liam76, on 11/06/2007, -1/+4Please don't compare America to some ignorant whore on the View.
- AriaStar, on 11/06/2007, -3/+6If he was so certain of his stance, then he shouldn't fear a little opposition. He should take it as a chance to debunk what is said. By crying about the opposition instead he looks like he has nothing better to say.
And the people who still think the earth is flat are those in jungle tribes who haven't seen pictures of the earth or heard of the internet. - DeviantDragon, on 11/06/2007, -3/+6If I could play Devil's Advocate for a moment, perhaps Gore should consider that flat-earthers and geocentric universe believers were once in his position of denying ground to opposing views because theirs was so obvious and correct.

I found this to be a very interesting read. They wrote a book of the same title. - clemdionisio, on 11/06/2007, -2/+4My straw man senses are tingling
- snowball69, on 11/06/2007, -1/+3I don't believe it - I finally found a reason to digg-up JCM!! :O
- snowball69, on 11/07/2007, -2/+4Nice to know we can rely on impartial globalists such as Gore to insist on a well-informed one-sided debate
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -0/+1cretin
- floorman56, on 11/11/2007, -1/+2His real message is that humanity, being in a finite world, with finite ressources, needs to be managed
EXACTLY!!!! It's about government control About him telling ME what I can and cannot do. With him and his like in power to do that. Socialism ...plan and simple - art42, on 11/10/2007, -5/+6The debate is NOT about "views". It is about FACTS.
- LastVisibleDog, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2And you exist to make bogus arguments and create fake Digg id's
- LastVisibleDog, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2Insightful is the posterchild for left wing propaganda
- 0xbaadf00d, on 11/06/2007, -3/+4Remember Algore, the flat earth theory was once the consensus.
- irvman21, on 11/06/2007, -4/+5How much has algore made in the past 4 years pushing his cause?
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1Couldn't be the sun, or did Al forget to look up ?
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1Simple is good and usually true. That's why man has complicated the law with endlessness, so you can't remember or find the truth.
- snowball69, on 11/06/2007, -1/+2The illusion of opposing parties eh?
"Al Gore has been correct about the issues long before the other candidates try to play catch up." ???
A more vague, waffling and weasel-ish sentence would be hard to find. "correct" in what way and in which "the issues"?
I'm also certain that Al Gore was *not* the first person to criticise the Iraq invasion no more than he invented the internet
it's a bit late here anyway. It's already decided; Hillary Clinton is the next president of the United States.
No, I won't add more - it would spoil the cash I have invested at the bookmakers ;) - toxicityj, on 11/06/2007, -2/+2now that theres video proof of man bear pig, we can surely take everything Gore says seriously.
- Prathik89, on 11/06/2007, -3/+3Why is there no public debate?
- bratpack8, on 11/06/2007, -5/+5But don't you know, the 'debate' is over!
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -0/+0I take it by "we" you mean you and your friends.
- pintomp3, on 11/06/2007, -4/+4your analogy is backwards. the flat-earthers and geocentric universe believers were the powerful church who wanted to maintain authority and status-quo, thus denying the findings of scientists. the case here is the oil industry and coal unions wanting to maintain the status-quo, thus denying the findings of scientists.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -0/+0Please explain your comment. I avoid "The View" so have no clue as to what you are talking about.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -2/+2Nice of him to say there should be no air time for those who disagree with him. Sounds like he wants the same kind of "censorship" everyone was complaining about the other day, only then is was conservative supposedly censoring anti-war people.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -2/+1There is a difference between listening to a dissenting view and listening to a view that has no basis in reality and has been debunked numerous times. The mere fact that you dissent is not enough to merit attention. Rather your dissent must have some factual basis.
9/11 "The Government Did IT!" conspiracies have no basis and no supporting facts. - inactive, on 11/06/2007, -2/+1Conservative ideology is kinda screwed up, too. Look at Bush. I want a right wing President sometime, but not Ron Paul.
- FlyCO, on 11/06/2007, -2/+1Dugg for "Gore" and "Rips" title
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -1/+0It is only arguing "against protecting the environment" if one believes that one is in fact damaging the environment in that way.
To put it in another way, it is equivalent to throwing water on a building and saying one is preventing a fire, but if the building is not endanger of being on fire, one is just throwing, and wasting, water. - inactive, on 11/06/2007, -5/+3Holy hypocrisy batman!
- Smight, on 11/06/2007, -4/+1There was a scientific consensus in 2000 that when normalized across population groups in the US, people like Bush more than Gore. And we hate Bush!
- tomlykus, on 11/06/2007, -4/+1"All this was inspired by the principle - which is quite true in itself - that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes" – Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
The enemy of the state is the truth - inactive, on 11/10/2007, -4/+1Yet, Al Gore is suggesting that all media should stop airing his opposition's side. In other words, he is acting like Fox News.
