- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -17/+87I don't think viewers of Fox News read, generally, so it's nice to see the pretty moving pictures clear it up.
- Smooph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+72I hope we see more of the media debunking these right-wing and/or left-wing radical claims. No matter the candidate. The 2008 election is going to be an extremely important one. We need to vote based on facts not fear or emotions.
I issue a challenge to all diggers!
1. Every candidate has written a book and has a website/blog. Read them.
2. Look at the actual voting records. http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/
3. Be a skeptic. Verify truthfulness and sources on all claims. Whether they are coming from the candidates, supporter or detractors.
4. Don't vote the party line. Vote for the candidate that shares your core values and whom you believe can be effective in defending or implementing them.
5. VOTE!!! - kjzz12, on 10/12/2007, -7/+62I'm glad this got cleared up on a mainstream network, but anyone whose read Dreams From My Father knows that he wasn't raised with any sort of Muslim beliefs.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36I "don"'t "UNDERSTAND" what "YOU"'re saying because "you" used "TOO" many"QUOTATION MARKS"
- zlintux, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Incorrect description for the digg. He DID go to an Islamic school/madrassa (madrassa means school) in Indonesia as a boy for two years. He himself is the source of this information.
However, the school is by no means radical, it was for two years when he was aged 8 (give or take). Neither he nor his family particularly wanted him there, but they couldn't afford private schooling.
It's all a non-issue. It has absolutely nothing to do with his political career, integrity or ideology.
Says something about Fox News. They run things equating an Islamic school with extremism, while CNN runs a piece using first-hand facts portraying an undeniable truth. CNN probably wouldn't have even touched the topic if other news outlets hadn't portrayed their misinformation.
I guess, as Stephen Colbert put it, reality has a clear liberal bias. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27*****.
Obama released this information himself. Then a bunch of neotards and Fox News latched onto it because they knew their knuckle-dragging base would eat it up like pudding. - Xageroth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Everyone seems to be missing the most critical point...
He was 6 years old and went to that school for 2 years.
Even in the worse case scenario you would have to be an idiot to think some complex view of the world he learned before he even understood simple math is having a huge impact on the way he thinks today. I can't even remember the names of my friends from that age. If you asked me anything about the world before I was 13, I would tell you almost verbatim what my parents would tell you. It's after that point where you start to come to your own conclusions. So 6 years old?? The news media needs to lay off the crank. - axiomata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Madrassa means school in Arabic. Indonesia may be Islamic but it is not Arabic. The deputy head master supposedly "bristled" at the thought that the school was described as a madrassa. Therefore I think describing an Indonesian school as a madrassa has a specific connotation over there as far as the role that religion plays in the education and it doesn't appear that Obama's school falls into that category.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+26the racism of the right wing, never fails to knock the door every day of the 00s.
- MrSpontaneous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12what makes the school "islamic"? They had classes on christianity for the handful of christian students.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Smear the top two democratic candidates at once? I'd say republicans would have something to gain.
- omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Love how CNN's sources must be right."
Yeah, because videotape of the actual school is so biased, right? - rcran, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11hear,
- Atlantics, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Whoa anybody else notice how many votes were missed? The top 10 people who missed votes are all Republican.
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/110/house/vote-missers/ - TheCash, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15"Commenting on this report today, Wolf Blitzer said that CNN had done “what any serious news organization is supposed to do in this kind of a situation”: actually investigate and learn the facts"
Hey Wolf, remember Memo-gate? Yeah... you reported on that one too without checking the facts first.
As I recall, it was a bunch of bloggers that debunked that pile of bullcr*p dug up by a 'serious news organization' and made public before actually investigating or learning any facts. I'm pretty sure I can find some video clips of Wolfee personally trash talking said bloggers and blogging in general, as they aren't real journalists and blogging isn't a valid form of journalism.
Kind of ironic, given the forum with which we now discuss this topic on, isn't it? People who live in glass houses Wolfee... - darkmule, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Whys that? Because hes Black? Because hes 'liberal?', Because of his middle name? I think we deserve a good answer to your statement. Your statement seems harsh and empty.
- axiomata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7source?
- dagobah77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Most communists are liberal. Does that make it right to judge all liberals based on them?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I don't think you understand how news works. Most real news organizations have correspondents. These correspondents can be in all sorts of crazy places, even Indonesia. Then, when something newsworthy happens, the correspondent is already there and they don't have to send anyone.
- Brian48216, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Because the current commander in chief is doing sucha bang up job right?
- jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6>>98% of conservatives are racists, doesn't surprise me at all.
100% of people who believe in generalizations are simpletons. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Who are you talking to?
- datcrazydj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Ay! Don't hate on CNN. They report good news.
The other day I learned that Fidel Castro has an artificial anus. Now THAT is quality news you'll only read on CNN.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/01/15/castro.condition/index.html - Carramrod72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Would it kill Fox and Friends to say "we don't know, lets not speculate on national TV in front of the millions of people who watch the news for 10 minutes and formulate an opinion based on that ten minutes..."
All these news stations have their flaws, BUT, you have to be blind to see that rich conservatives are the one group in this country that has the most to lose by the election of a leader who isn't a wealthy conservative....Fox news is the network of rich conservatives and the rest of the idiots who watch and actually believe that it is "fair and balanced" are fooled into thinking that it is patriotic. Terrorism and fear are used against us and we are called anti American if we see through that or don't want to live in fear of the next terror alert on Fox News..
Now if you excuse me I have to go check the color of the terror level so I can plan my day accordingly... - AtHomeBoy2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love how they TOTALLY slapped Fox News across the face.
"CNN did what any SERIOUS news station would do..." - Ndiggnation, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Who ran the story in the first place?
So what if he did attend a "madrassa" anyways? As stated above, it simply means school. We've had basically, with the exception of Kennedy, nothing but WASPS in the White House throughout our history. As we become more diverse (no, that's not a dirty word), our government should reflect that. Hell, we've never even had a woman in at this point, and as far as we've gotten from the "norm" is a rich Irish Catholic.
Now, I'm not saying that we should elect someone based on race or creed, but even if Obama is a raving Muslim, what does it matter? He reportedly is not, unless you believe he's using that whole "deception during jihad" tact. If he has the interests of America at heart, who cares what his background is?
Sadly, to most of the American public, it does matter. They will see black and supposedly Muslim before anything else. Then again, the Presidential elections really aren't about issues anymore, just a popularity contest. See President #43...and Obama is a pretty popular man.
It's more likely than ever, with the 2008 election, that history will be made...
BTW, I'm from Illinois and voted for Obama. - bishop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I question those who denounce FoxNews yet have nothing to say about thinkprogress.org.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13Fox News makes me sick. Anyone who watches it should be ashamed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+155.VOTE!!!
Democrat, that is.
It's the only viable choice we have at this point. - dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Wow, you're much worse than any conservative I've ever met. Especially in the ignorance department for making such a sweeping (and false) accusation.
- jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That would imply work and might endanger our biases, predjudices and ill concieved ideas.
- widman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"We need to vote based on facts not fear or emotions." Good luck with that...
- deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Barack Obama should sue Fox News for deliberate defamation of character and slander. Fox News when out of their way multiple times to attack Obama's character. They then went as far as to try to blame this on Hillary Clinton.
How pathetic and desperate could Fox News really be? It amazes me that they get away with this *****. I'm not a huge fan of CNN, but CNN made Fox News look worst than the National Enquirer. And all that CNN did was send a reporter to the actual school and do some research. Fox News, IMHO is a joke for a news channel. Unfortunately, simple minded people, who hold the majority in this country, watch this *****.
Now, can the world understand how George W. Bush was elected not once but twice into office? That's what pisses off the other half of America so much. That these simple minded people have the majority and elected a more than obivious idiot as president and keep a ridiculous news channel still in business.
Let's see how really "fair and balanced" that Fox "Joke" News truly is and see if they will report their obvious slanderous mistake. I doubt it. I won't be holding my breath on this any time soon.
It's more like the Hoax News Channel ...
http://www.democratgiftshop.com/cgi-bin/store/store.cgi/571511948/liberal_shop/806717 - Ndiggnation, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I guess the point that post of mine is that being American and being Muslim are not mutually exclusive. I will say that I am agnostic, and not a big fan of religion in general, does that make me un-American?
- armyvet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Ndiggnation
There have been 11 presidents that do not meet the "WASP" moniker you have placed them with. Eleven, one-fourth of our presidents have not been WASPs. They include Unitarians, Deists, Catholic, and not affiliated.
Now, I got my information from wikipedia. I don't particularly care for wikipedia, but it's good for a quick glance. I'd rather get information from more thoroughly trustworthy sites. - chaimpot0k, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11That's right, ***** off Fox News.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I think this statement would be more accurate:
Most racists are conservatives.
Source: http://www.myass.com - r81984, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Its interesting how newscasters can be fired for reporting false stories about Pres Bush, but when its about a Obama, whos a democrat, no one at fox news or any of the other outlets gets fired.
Its really shows who controls the media. - dagobah77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6And you get your statistics from where? The far-right doesn't account for all conservatives.
- ateoto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I'm just glad you have no say in the election. Or at least I'm assuming. Judging by that statement there's no way you can be 18 or older.
- Overturf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@NixonRichard
You said: "...They're not using this to attack Obama . . . they're using it to attack Hillary. Just FYI..."
They are using it to attack both of them. Create a story and attribute it to the Clintons. Shift the blame there and neglect to figure out if the story is even valid, make both campaigns scramble to figure out what happened, issue denials, make both groups out to be somewhat tainted. It's Swift Boating with a twist, and anyone who is missing that is a tool.
I do not look forward to the garbage the right wing will unleash to make sure neither of them are elected. Get ready for a very nasty time, politically...shame on us for paying attention to this stuff and not recognizing it for what it is. Which is, yet more dirty tricks by the establishment to make sure the American people never get a fair shot at really understanding for what any of the candidates actually stand, or would do for our country. - BOOFMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Fox reported what they did based on a media report from the web. This morning Fox and Friends, the morning show, issued a correction and apologized for getting some of the facts wrong,
All news media outlets make mistakes sometimes, it was CNN that showed the video of terrorist and had the caption 'where's Obama'. At least Fox cleared it up and apologized for not double checking the facts.
Since I'm not a democrat maybe someone can explain why Obama is so popular. I'm curious to hear peoples opinions of the guy. He seems on the surface to be intelligent and well spoken but the media fawning all over him is disturbing. - ishmael5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Smooph
if i could give your comment multiple diggs, i would, we certainly need voters to be aware of what/who they're voting for! - 46and2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He is hung.
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5"They run things equating an Islamic school with extremism, while CNN runs a piece using first-hand facts portraying an undeniable truth. CNN probably wouldn't have even touched the topic if other news outlets hadn't portrayed their misinformation."
Okay, when Fox first ran the story on "Fox and Friends" (which is no more news than Jerry Springer) they said:
"The big question is was [wahhabism] on the curriculum back then? Probably not, but it was a madrassa"
They DO give him and the school the benefit of the doubt. They just get caught up in the word "madrassa" which, I have to admit, has gotten a lot of bad press lately from EVERYONE. Madrassa just means "school", rabbi just means "teacher", and Allah just means "God." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6how ***** racist can the right wing be.
go back to your cave. - strfiter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@nacrotek
How is CNN communist in any way?
Try to learn what you're talking about before you make stereotypical claims.
You use "communism" as a derogatory term or call somebody a "communist" without ever showing what makes them that. How about I just start calling you a Right-wing Honky? - lxdengar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Middle of the Road Fox News"? Are you on crack? That's retarded.
- citizenmatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because Texas governors with no foreign policy experience make GREAT presidents. *snort*
- lopla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Obama is finished, anyone who thinks otherwise does not know how the American population think. Obama is finished right now just the same as the swiftboat vets took down Kerry. Obama's water has been tainted and eventhough it's fabricated and untrue it's still tainted. He could never win now. He is a covert Muslim terrorist, a smoker, and a sex offender.
