- Hortnon, on 07/20/2008, -0/+12I know from experience (stateside experience), that when a DV like this shows up, it's so bad that they pre-pick the people that will be there, even. Airman are selected based on some made-up criteria to fill out the room and impress people.

- BillE3, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5As a civilian employed in South VietNam, we were all moved to the opposite side of the base and told to stay inside, when the USO Bob Hope show arrived. They did not want any of us to be within camera range when it showed the base. Camp Eagle, Phu Bai 1970.
- jerger23, on 07/21/2008, -0/+4Though they are admittedly usually hand-picked to attend these events, it's not always based on made-up criteria. I've seen units who picked service members out for this kind of activity based on their achievements as a sort of reward for their work. One example that immediately comes to mind was the selection of a soldier who won "Soldier of the Quarter" to sit at the table with the President during one of his visits to a military base in Georgia.
