- jeffiek, on 12/30/2007, -18/+195Nice work. The talent alone is enough for a digg.
The truth of it is worth a lot more than a digg. - radiantstorm, on 12/30/2007, -17/+114Beautiful. And it's funny because it's TRUE. We're *****.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -15/+106I think you Americans should watch out.
- rujnf, on 12/30/2007, -30/+97Dugg for being ballsy
- TheDHC, on 12/30/2007, -9/+75good message, dugg for the awesome acronym at the end
- mrfreeziexp, on 12/30/2007, -10/+65"It has been said that those who ignore history are condemed to repeat it. It's true, I failed history and had to repeat the 3rd grade" - from the description.
- flavioribeiro, on 12/30/2007, -6/+59One of the biggest warning signs is when the right of habeas corpus starts being questioned. Habeas corpus is the right to question an unlawful imprisonment, and demand release from custody. Without habeas corpus, the state can indefinitely incarcerate people who oppose it.
In a free nation, habeas corpus should be unconditional. Back in November of 2001 this right was questioned, and in came the notion of conditional habeas corpus. Suddenly it was possible for a foreign citizen to be indefinitely detained, as long as he was considered suspected of terrorism. The dangerous part is precisely this notion of who's classified to be an enemy combatant, because it's a slippery slope. It's a definition that tends to get progressively weaker, preying on the fears and ignorance of the population, and soon enough the government starts incarcerating all kinds of dissenters.
And which presidential candidates mention the travesty that is the suspension of habeas corpus? It's important that people research this for themselves, so if you don't know, please inform yourself. But keep in mind that a country can only be free if habeas corpus is not contested.
Wikipedia has a good start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_corpus - inactive, on 12/30/2007, -20/+72Someone please explain to me how 2007 America is any more fascist than 1913 America.
You're not becoming fascist, you're realizing that you're a fascist country. - inactive, on 12/30/2007, -2/+391950's McCarthy trials. Prison for having communist literature or literature writen by a communist.
1940's: nuked two cities.
1913: Prison for drinking alcohol. Black people are not considered persons.
1960's: Cops shoot and kill students who protest against Vietnam, on school grounds. Killed hundreds of thousands of civilians because they chose communism. Set an entire country on fire. - theblooms, on 12/30/2007, -9/+39Don't forget about mass genocide with forced starvation, "Papers, please" as you cross city, county, and state lines and people disappearing in the middle of the night.
- cherwilco, on 12/30/2007, -13/+40yeah you usually are.
- Roblodocus, on 12/30/2007, -7/+30Totalitarianism.!= Fascism. Most people get these two terms confused.
- belarund, on 12/30/2007, -6/+28Nice video - didn't leave me with the usual tinfoil-hat feeling, like so many websites linked to from digg does. Now say, and I hope it isn't the case, but say that the US is about to become ... to become what? What exactly are we hinting at here? That the US becomes a full-fledged fascist dictatorship run by it's military and special government branches (FBI, CIA, NSA, FEMA, etc. we could include the media)? That the government will send it's own people to prison camps and eradicate them? Like Hitler-Germany?
This sounds a little far-fetched, but SAY, just for the sake of argument, that this process was in the making. It sure seems like it could, with the kinds of laws and special signings that Bush is implementing, and all the signs that are indicated in this video. A frightening scenario, indeed! With the military power that the US has, etc., a very scary situation for the rest of the world, as well as the US domestically.
The real issue here is not whether this IS happening or not... the real issue is to ensure that it CANNOT happen! Use your right to vote, while you still have it, your right to protest, your right to question your government and hold them responsible for their actions - remember, you hired them, and they should answer to you, not the other way around! Vote for the sane candidate, some modern, enlightened, educated person who will make it a point to return the US to order and justice, to re-institute Habeas Corpus and rid off the Patriot Act and other special orders instated to deal with "dangerous enemy combatants" and "possible terrorists". Return America to its citizens, take the power away from the crazy few whose agenda I fail to see as anything but craziness and monetary gain through war-mongering and anti-science. - torontoliam, on 12/30/2007, -4/+25Based on your grammar, I suspect you didn't get any further!
- ben_nushmut, on 12/30/2007, -6/+26Unfortunately, most of us have pulled the wool over our own eyes over the last few years.
- BodomChild16, on 12/30/2007, -7/+26Ofcourse not! They're referring to the North Koreans!
- SquashTheMatrix, on 12/30/2007, -11/+29Great video... add, privatized army (Blackwater) to the list! That, in-itself, is the definition of Fascism!!
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -1/+19it's never too late. don't be a pussy.
- Alimack, on 12/30/2007, -2/+19Actually, when you put it like that, the USA seems to be improving. Is it still illegal to be a communist?
- jeffiek, on 12/30/2007, -1/+18I got it. Don't think most people will. Allow me to explain.
"statism" is a generalized term for the belief in government, the belief that people are better off when controlled by an centralized organization, the belief that people should be ruled.
Fascism, socialism, and communism share this concept although they implement it somewhat differently. Just like "children", all in the same family, taught by the same parents, yet all different. - themoose, on 12/30/2007, -2/+18Uh. That's because you don't know.
- justjoehere, on 12/30/2007, -2/+17Anyone who can get their view point out in under 2mins and have it be memorable, funny, and somber at the same time should get an award. Let's call it the GTWOWBFSAPATSTA or
"Getting the word out while being funny, somber, and political at the same time award." - Emuu911, on 12/30/2007, -17/+31Really awesome. Definitely talented work.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -2/+16Check, check, check, check, check, check, check, check, check, and uhhh....check....alrighty...
- DyDx, on 12/30/2007, -6/+20Are you high, or just incredibly stupid? Since you just used the "words" "sheeple" and "libtard" several times, I'm going to assume the latter.
From the Wikipedia article on Fascism: "Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, corporatism, populism, collectivism, and opposition to political and economic liberalism" All of these things can be readily found in the USA, and if you don't see it then YOU are the retard. - Corrosionx, on 12/30/2007, -1/+15The merger of corporate and state interests. That's fascism and that's happening right now.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -2/+15did you even watch the ***** video?
- chrisgnv, on 12/30/2007, -2/+15Well, if you're going to say there isn't any truth in the video, you may want to post some substantial reasons why.
- Evermin7, on 12/30/2007, -4/+16If you watched the video, then you will see that we are pretty damn close, if not already fascist....
The point of the video ( I am assuming that you did not watch it) is that we have an oppressive government and need change. - siszam, on 12/30/2007, -2/+14Ding fries are done. :)
- TheShad0w, on 12/30/2007, -0/+12http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came...
- soulkitchen, on 12/30/2007, -3/+15And yet, here you are.
- fishrjv, on 12/30/2007, -9/+20The sad part about all of this is the creator of this video will probably be detained and considered a terrorist.
- terrordome, on 12/30/2007, -0/+11The Soviets, Cuba and North Korea are not and were neither communist or fascist. Nazi-Germany and Italy under Mussolini were fascist. The Paris Commune is probably the closest any society has ever come to communism.
The Soviets were developing socialism under Lenin, then Stalin's counter-revolution turned it into a state-capitalist bureaucracy. Cuba is socialist, but with an authoritarian government. North Korea is Juche, which is some sort of idiotic interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, combined with Maoism and Stalinism (not that Maoism and Stalinism aren't already idiotic to begin with). - MacGyverDXS, on 12/30/2007, -10/+21Um....Katrina, Real ID, Extraordinary Rendition
- Mercedes383, on 12/30/2007, -1/+12These are supposed to be basic human rights irrespective of your citizenship.
- ithejosh, on 12/30/2007, -6/+17Hah like that could ever happen to u--
wait a second - D3koy, on 12/30/2007, -2/+12Tell me, would you pass that test?
- hiphoc, on 12/30/2007, -0/+10Ok, its almost too late. The only good thing is that the full police grid isnt set up yet and people are losing trust in the government. My only issues are with the cops. Look in Pakistan and around the world and throughout history. Cops and Military do what they are told and crack heads. What will they do here? If the economy collapses and the gov't tells cops and military to crack down and diggers rioting in the streets and promises them that cops and military will still get paid and extra food rations. What do you think will happen? Its been done before all throughout history. You would be amazed to see what people do for a few extra food rations and extra gasoline rations.
- betterth, on 12/31/2007, -0/+10I've just finished multiple courses in US History from a reputable public university, and I can tell you right now that our history shows a strong disposition to fascism. We've constantly curtailed the very immutable rights we claim are due to everyone. America's history is one of hate and intolerance, more so than any other western country.
Racism, sexism, homophobia -- all of these disease affect America more than any other civilized country. The worst blight, the worst disease we've yet to attack. I'm a Christian but I'll tell you right now that religion is the disease that makes America the worst of the civilized countries. We use Christianity to justify slavery. We use it to justify sexism. We use it to justify homophobia and the suppression of the rights of gay people.
We know these things are wrong, in our hearts, but in our heads, we say "Our pastor condones it, our Bible teaches it, so regardless of what we feel, we'll go along with it". You do that enough, and if you raise your kids that way, it just becomes that way.
Intolerance will lead to the destruction of America as we try to destroy the Muslim people in their entirety. - Mercedes383, on 12/30/2007, -3/+13Why don't you make an effort and come up with a decent rebuttal?
- Orlong, on 12/30/2007, -12/+211. Take from the rich to give to the poor
2. create national health care paid for by the rich people because the poor cant afford it
3. Allow illegal aliens to live in the country to attract them as voters for your party
4. Tell people what they will drive, what kind of light bulb they WILL use
5. Increase taxes to create a society totally reliant on the government - hiphoc, on 12/30/2007, -3/+12Ok cool, I can go back to eating pop tarts and soiling my pants as I watch EXTRA!!!
- ghamal, on 12/30/2007, -1/+10relax, the video format can be just as useful, informative and relevant than the paper format...
- netdance, on 12/30/2007, -1/+10Well, it all depends on whether you think terrorism is a crime, or a war.
Me, I think it's a criminal act. Giving it war status gives those *****-wits too much respect.
I'd also like to point out that Bush et al decided some time ago that an American Citizen could be declared an illegal enemy combatant, and have his Habeus Corpus rights suspended. You don't have to be a liberal to have that bother you. Just a patriot. - DivisibleByZero, on 12/30/2007, -4/+13Remember that time Ponzi jumped over a shark on water skis?
- rnbw, on 12/30/2007, -1/+10dugg for reminding me of the plasmid videos from Bioshock
- grampajoe, on 12/30/2007, -2/+11"Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers individual and social interests subordinate to the interests of the state or party."
I'm pretty sure that's what he's going for in the video. - PopePhred, on 12/30/2007, -7/+16Urm, okay... I'm keeping an eye on the book of Revelation... Now what? I hope it doesn't do that quick pop-up of the possessed girl from The Exorcist supplemented by a loud piercing scream. That always scared the BeJezzus out of me!
