- mishabear, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24Treaty of Tripoli article 11:
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries. - CaptainNoPants, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Myth # 6. That's like saying Paris Hilton's a little bit of an airhead.
You're right though - there is no right wing media and there is no left wing media... In America, the mainstream media is *Corporate Media*, which serves corporate interests and nothing else. - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11It's been studied time and again: the majority of journalists are generally liberal vs. their generally conservative owners.
But who gets to decide what goes on the air? And who can fire a journalist if they don't conform to the owner's standards? How many journalists in this country have free reign over what they print or say on the air?
The owners may be few, but they have all of the power. And the result if that most journalism in this country is pro-corporate, and even, believe it or not, pro-government -- to the extent that they never question the fundamental issues, only this or that minor tweak in policy. - AzBats, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1045 DU articles in a year and 40 days isn't anywhere near spam compared to the amount of LGF and LewRockwell posts there have been.

Too many Diggers fail to question the source of the material that appears here. - YouandWhoseArmy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Meh, I generally agree with what this article says but the tone is condescending and obnoxious. You catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar. Also, the labels 'liberal' and 'conservative' are pretty disingenuous.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Myth #6 - Myth debunkers never have their own agendas, nor twist facts.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3""the per capita rate of violent crime in Red states is 49 per 100,000 higher than in Blue states, the top 5 states with the highest rates of alcohol abuse are Red states"
And per person, red state residents donate much more to charity than blue states, despite blue states having higher average wages. If you go by percentage of wages, the disparity is even greater.
So, using "statistics", blue state people are more selfish and uncaring? The red state blue state crap is just that, CRAP. - chaesar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3And it is mos def slanted, considering it comes from a site called "democraticunderground.com"

If you weren't so busy trying to be an offensive ass, you could have looked it up and seen that alcohol abuse is highest in the midwest and west, not the south.

Anyone wanting to put in 20 minutes can find plenty of studies that point to a liberal media. You can find opinion, like this author, saying that the media is conservative or not liberal but not any credible studies. The fact that a large majority of journalists vote democratic is just topping on the cake. And in the last couple of decades, journalists have increasingly tossed out professionalism and at least trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to be unbiased in favor of activist journalism. They have thrown out all semblance of being unbiased. Fox news is so successful because it is the ONLY conservative leaning network while all others have a liberal slant. One station gets all the conservatives, the other half dozen or so have to fight for the liberals, all fight for independents.
While true the government of Denmark gives more to poor countries than the US government as a percent of GDP, the author fails to take into account a few things. The average American donates much more to private charities than most nations. Ask any international aid worker. That is one of the key differences between liberals and conservatives. Liberals tend to want the government to solve problems and conservatives tend to want individuals or the private sector to solve problems. The author is a liberal and has failed to take into account non government responsibilities to charity. Bill Gates donations, which is more than the entire country of Denmark gives, will not be counted as the US government giving money. Another thing that the author doesn't take into account is technology. For example, GPS is American technology. We give it to the world for free. And those 24 satellites circling the globe costed many billions of dollars. Also, any big disasters will get US aid through the military. The cargo planes the military owns to transport supplies will not be added in the government total while Denmark leasing a plane to transport supplies will. I've traveled to dozens of countries and most people look upon Americans as very generous people. Germany also gives more than the US per GDP but anyone backpacking with a German for a few days will tell you they sure are stingy in those 3rd world countries. - Jonjonr6, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Myth #8, because some douche wrote an opinion in a blog, it is, by affect, a fact.

- I think that's what Fox has been trying to do... Besides Fox the only right leaning mainstream outlets are the Washington Times and the NY Post, which are not exactly on the same tier as the NY Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times. - hrhs556x, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3Did Michael Moore write this?
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -12/+7#3 is NOT a myth. in 1972, 90% of media voted for McGovern. While they have moved toward the center, because they are liberal, they CAN'T EVER know when they reach the center. Fox news is both lambasted and praised because they do have a conservative bent. The more they are criticized, the better they like it.
