WE ASK THE QUESTIONS! - Grolsch, on 07/02/2009, -6/+35Typical *****. Good propaganda article.
- antoniuk, on 07/02/2009, -6/+21Why do we only need friends that give us something? Why can't America just be freinds with a country becasue it is nice to have friends?
If I only had friends so I could use them I would not have many friends and would be a total douche. - 13373h4X0r, on 07/02/2009, -4/+19What's this about "smackdowns" to "lay on Russia"? That's the attitude that created enormous waste and risk for the whole world over the past 50 years!
The idea that Obama would try to improve relations with other countries by delivering smackdowns like WWF -- as if he might whack Putin's back with a folding chair to the cheers of spectators -- is hilarious and idiocratic (if I may coin a term). - Heiminator, on 07/02/2009, -1/+15because countries do not have friends, they have interests...
- cubicledrone, on 07/02/2009, -1/+14Is there some reason the President needs to be belligerent?
- louiebaur, on 07/02/2009, -3/+15Putin barely cracks our top-ten list of international bad boys nowadays, and his "resurgent Russia" defense budget doesn't even match our increase (!) since 9/11.
- fadeout, on 07/02/2009, -2/+13Any country with thousands of ICBM's gathering dust, in who knows what condition and with what kind of security, IS a big deal.
Not to mention they got to ***** up one of their old satellites last year and we couldn't do a thing about it.
They are in a much stronger position to bloody our nose than many, many other countries despite their financial situation. - inactive, on 07/02/2009, -0/+9Yeah let's lay the "smackdown" on a country is not threatening us. Who BTW has more natural energy reserves that the rest of the world COMBINED, who has tens of thousands of ICBMs (FYI the majoirty of the nuclear warheads and missiles in Russia are between 5 to 10 years old while the majority of our missles are 20 years and many our warheads were made in the 1970's. A country who contains exponentially more biological weapons than the rest of the world and which are DECADES ahead of what US can make- we stoped research in the 1960's. Also let's smack down the only country that has genetic weapons loaded on ICBMS -(Genertic weapons differ than biological weapons in that they derecly destroy RNA and DNA in plants animals and people they have been refered as the "perfect weapon').
Or how about we shake hands with Russia and try to act like a bunch of reasonable adults, minus the WWE jargon? - Liamoman, on 07/02/2009, -3/+11After reading this I feel the author needs a slap in its arrogant face.
I hope Obama dose not share this extremely self-righteous attitude.
who ever wrote this is full of absolute ignorance. - freshgrease, on 07/02/2009, -5/+13Like a Boss!
- WordsnCollision, on 07/02/2009, -10/+17Excellent article!
- muzzy, on 07/02/2009, -10/+17The biggest mistake this article makes, and what so many of you diggers and fellow Americans make, is assuming that Russia is an enemy.
I just don't get it.
What is Russia doing to provoke the US? Seriously, what?
The US is provoking Russia for some reason that I just can't figure out. Why does the US need to put up a missile shield on Russia's border? Why does the US need to try and bring Ukraine into the NORTH ATLANTIC Treaty Organization? Why does the US need to get involved with oil deals between Russia and Europe? Why is America sticking its nose into affairs between Georgia and Russia?
The article is completely right in stating that Russia is no threat to the US and that its military budget is but a tiny tiny fraction of America's. So why does the US continually act towards the contrary? - fizzak, on 07/02/2009, -3/+10Your statement makes me think about McCarthyism. We are trained (or at least our parents are) to fear Russia's communism. I for one never really got the whole cold war thing. Never had a problem with Russia or their policies. Their immigrants have always been nice to me too. The Russians never really cared about invading us or gymping our assets. It's always about who has the bigger dick when it comes to both of us.
- Heiminator, on 07/02/2009, -2/+8europes defense budget doesn't really matter as long as france und britain keep their nuclear arsenals,i don't know where you are from,parabola9, but most of europe is way past fighting wars on their own continent, except parts of the balkans and even they are calming down, i don't see any reason at all why there should be the slightest danger of war between the european union and russia in the foreseeable future
most big powers around the world have realized by now that nuclear war or even conventional war between major industrialised states is futile, asymmetric wars are the challenge of this century, and all the tanks, stealth bombers and cruise missiles in the world ain't gonna help to win them... - MasterAmerica, on 07/02/2009, -1/+6And the article ignored the nukes? That's the sole reason we even pay attention to Moscow...
- papashawn, on 07/02/2009, -2/+7are we at war with russia again?
- muzzy, on 07/02/2009, -4/+9It's really sad that we've increased our "defense" (Let's not beat around the bush, it's MILITARY spending, not defense spending) spending that much when it already has dwarfed the rest of the world's for decades.

POKE THE BEAR!!!
Russia may no longer be the giant superpower it once was, but it is a vast, rich nation that has a national mentality to stand their ground. Even a little bear can be nasty.
Anyway the war is going to be between Russian and China, why does it seem like nobody realizes that. (If you in Mongolia it may be a good time to get out.) Simply put we're stable, their both growing. Asia is a big place, but is there room for the both of them? (Let's not even worry about India). In the 21st century the powderkeg will move considerably east of the Balkans. - Forumgod, on 07/02/2009, -4/+8I find the article quite egocentrical, it's kinda saying "America is the only great power on this planet"
AND THAT'S A TAD COCKY
It's not like america doesn't have a list of 10 things that could be improved/replaced/inserted - rabidjester, on 07/02/2009, -2/+6No *****, he won't stand up to him like Bu... oh wait. Crap, deflection needed - someone bring up Iran or mustard!
- alais, on 07/02/2009, -3/+7This is a joke right?
- redcyren, on 07/02/2009, -4/+7Retard also doesn't know how to spell or use grammar.
- rabidjester, on 07/02/2009, -5/+8It's only been a few months are the righties are already becoming super ***** crazy unhinged. The tear flow is going to be so deliciously epic in another two years.
- mhummel, on 07/02/2009, -1/+4Winner gets all of Berlin this time.
- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2009, -2/+4Even most dumbass conservatives can see that it would only provoke more violence and deaths. You should get a nobel prize for dumb.
- lindenwold, on 07/02/2009, -16/+18too bad he'll just go there, send the wife shopping, answer some of his own questions, and apologize to a few people.
*****, how is it that I get more accomplished when traveling internationally than our persident? - SoulGrub, on 07/02/2009, -2/+4Wanna reference any specific broken promise?
- KahRahTay, on 07/02/2009, -2/+4says the big man posting anonymous comments on the internet.
idiot. - SoulGrub, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2arrogant? more like insecure.
- solid12345, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3Likewise if we were friends with only nice countries we'd not be a leading world economy.
- parabola9, on 07/02/2009, -4/+6Problem is Europe's defense budget is more or less nil, meaning even a weakened Russian military can push them around pretty easily.
- Junkyarddawg, on 07/02/2009, -3/+5WTF? The author is either retarded or completely ignorant about the situation in eastern Europe.
Russia OWNS the EU at the moment, because France, Italy, and Germany are _completely_ dependent on Russian gas and oil. That's what the war in Georgia was about, Russia stopping a pipeline which would have delivered gas and oil from Khazakstan to Europe and lessened Russian influence. No, the EU isn't happy.
Meanwhile, Russia is leaning on Poland and the Scandinavian countries to get to build a new pipeline through the Baltic Sea, bypassing Ukraine, who is holding Russias pipelines hostage as a safeguard against Russian aggression. Russia really really wants that baltic pipeline, to the point they bribed the German chancellor, but theScandinavian countries, who presently lead the EU, are trying to stall.
Oh yeah, and in Belarus and Chechnya we have nazi/war criminal presidents dependent on Russia.
There's no end of things for Obama to talk about if he choses. - DarkRellik, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Honestly, I'm Russian and I think the author is right - despite the political brainwashing and the propaganda Americans are genuinely liked by and large as a people. I dont even know what those words mean or what you think their translations are.
I think that American culture is more deeply ingrained in Russian culture than Anti-American culture. There's just so many words recently borrowed from the American lexicon that it's undeniable, and American movies/music/etc. are always popular there too. - FredFredrickson, on 07/02/2009, -1/+2You must be completely colorless, tuna.
Taking a hard line against everyone is terrible policy. There's a reason why you're stuck flipping burgers every day and better, smarter people are tackling issues like this without your input. - maxxspace, on 07/02/2009, -2/+3Give Peace A Chance

- muzzy, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1@ solid12345
What is a "peanenik"? Is that someone who favors peace over war? Jeese, those people must be real jerks. - shebaabc, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Now u said the facts on this
- intothebreach, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1(Jokingly) we're Americans, we'll us ar-15's for the revolution, thank you very much.
I hope your name is telling, otherwise..........
But the reply fit the statement.
The democrat run government has not been a failure, they have so far been quite succesful in pushing their agenda through. However their succes may lead the nation to failure. This needs to be said without defending the republicans though (somehow) as they definetly set the stage for any changes that are happening. - solid12345, on 07/02/2009, -1/+2Funny how the same peaceniks who said the missile shield is a joke and mocked Reagan as senile for believing in it suddenly want it torn down because it is next to Russia.
- gerbil20, on 07/02/2009, -2/+3I read the article up to the point where it says that despite Putin's brainwashing, americans are generally well liked by the populace. At this point I made a retching sound, reached for the bury button and hit it hard.
Look up words "pendos" and "amerikos" in the wikipedia and use google translation feature on russian discussion forums. C'mon, russian anti-americanism rivals their anti-semitism. Both are deeply ingrained in their culture. Get real will you - InvincibleQ, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Britains? We're friends with them and they don't offer anything to us. We (generally) like each other just because.
- jnisme, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Look where that stance got him.
- 3The3Dude3, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Not only are you wrong. But there isn't even one liberal in Congress who agrees with you.
- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2009, -1/+2We have a repressed individual right here.
- gigi52, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Russia still thinks it is a super power, and with its nukes, we have to pay attention. They have always responded better to strength with diplomacy. We need a good relationship, but not bowing with apologies.
- itstodd, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I said if... and as of today, he is making my point.
