- Taquoshi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The most interesting thing is how simple statement of fact are now deemed as intolerant. About a year ago, someone in our area was told that a neighbor was sexually abusing his child. The parent then went to the neighbor's house, broke in and stabbed the neighbor to death. It was mentioned at a meeting I attended. My comment was "His funeral was today."
I was immediately accused of being intolerant, for child abuse and against domestic abuse legislation. Still not sure how a statement of fact regarding the occurance of a funeral labels me as for child abuse or against domestic abuse legislation, but whatever. Nothing I can ever say or do will ever convince the person who accused me otherwise, unfortunately. A lengthy subsequent investigation later proved that the child had never been abused in any way by the neighbor. The parent has entered a "guilty" plea for murder (third degree, I think) and is hoping for mercy from the court.
The saddest part is that when everything becomes intolerance, nothing is intolerant.... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Tristan hits the nail on the head. The classic definition of "tolerance" is to accept a degree of error. But, like mechanical contraptions, too much acceptance of error and the whole thing stops working.
