- tresbizarre, on 11/03/2009, -63/+718"To Shut Up the Critics"
Yeah, good luck with that, conservatives are outraged when Obama wakes up in the morning. - Peachi, on 11/03/2009, -107/+734I'm glad someone finally listed all of this out.
- goodthinkin, on 11/03/2009, -125/+700The Republicans right now sound like a spoiled 16-year old who wrecked the car and then spends the whole next month complaining about how we don't ever get to go out to eat. He is doing a PHENOMENAL job considering the situation he walked into. We are very lucky to have him!
- ceredron, on 11/03/2009, -53/+505Despite the huge number of far lefties and far righties on digg, I've always gone with a simple mantra on Obama: he's pissing off both parties, and since the country isn't falling into a state of negligent disrepair and my relatives haven't lost their jobs, I think he's doing a fine job.
Just cause he's not doing everything everyone wants him to do, they get pissed. If you actually PAID SOME ***** ATTENTION, he said through his entire campaign he'd be working to try and represent everyone, working together to achieve common ground. He's honestly trying to be a centrist. His campaign platform was just blatantly democratic to get the votes, but now he's being slightly left of center and doing a fine job.
History will tell Obama's story clearly, not Fox news right now, and not a bunch of liberal columnists with their panties in a bunch. - asgardshill, on 11/03/2009, -42/+330You'll never shut up the critics. They make too much money doing what they do.
- Cerin, on 11/03/2009, -27/+303The funniest part is reading the comments of all the Obama-haters, who didn't read the entire article, and are doing exactly what the last paragraph of the article mentions.
- diggduggDOOM, on 11/03/2009, -6/+242SNL mocks every President. Was this the first time you've seen the show?
- walt100, on 11/03/2009, -63/+250FTA: "Ten days after that, Obama formally announced America's withdrawal from Iraq."
If announcing something is an accomplishment, they should consider him for the Nobel Peace Prize. - Numbski, on 11/03/2009, -19/+180Obama could have *had* it better to. We dumped the man in darn near the worst situation possible.
- Cerin, on 11/03/2009, -7/+167Well said. I've never understood why conservatives didn't mind Bush destroying the economy over 8 years, but are outraged that Obama didn't fix it in 8 months.
- Batfishy, on 11/03/2009, -32/+175I like Obama too, but we could certainly have it better.
- BigT383, on 11/03/2009, -26/+157Wow.
1) Accomplishment doesn't mean what you think it means.
2) He ordered the closing of Guantanamo within a year. Has it been a year yet? No? Then you have no case.
3) Withdrawl from Iraq has begun... it was never supposed to be an overnight thing (and always some residual troops would be left behind).
4) Iraq has nothing to do with Afghanistan. Obama campaigned on a promise to increase troop levels in Afghanistan, and he has. - DonJuan, on 11/03/2009, -35/+166Great points - especially the concluding paragraph.
- leprix, on 11/03/2009, -3/+112Bound.
- Ziriux, on 11/03/2009, -157/+264The man has done a good job for us, I honestly think we couldn't have it any better.
- AgeofMastery, on 11/03/2009, -4/+108Why do you people keep bringing up Afghanistan? He campaigned on sending more troops there, we've known he planned to do it from the start.
- LiquidIse, on 11/03/2009, -26/+125You obviously are confusing the word "accomplishment".
This article is a look at things Obama has done. Both liberal and conservative. Just because you dont agree with a bailout (trust me I certainly do not) it was something Obama ACCOMPLISHED. Thus: it can be said it was one of Obama's accomplishments. - Hetman, on 11/03/2009, -7/+94I take it you do not remember Clintons term. He had some of the funniest skits about him. The whole Saddam hussuien, monica lewenski skits are hiliriaous. Not to mention the one were he they parody him and the rumor that he works for the KBG.
- toconnor, on 11/03/2009, -260/+346Is this a joke? I had to stop reading after the first few...
"A week before he was sworn in, Obama jammed part two of the bank bailout down the throat of his own party — a $350 billion accomplishment." -- accomplishment? Really?
"Two days after he was sworn in, Obama banned the use of "harsh interrogation" and ordered the closing of Guantánamo." -- and yet Gitmo is still open and going strong. In fact I just heard that the detainees will be receiving their swine flu vaccines this week even though most Americans can't get it.
"Two weeks after that, Obama signed the stimulus bill — a $787 billion accomplishment." -- again, accomplishment?
"Ten days after that, Obama formally announced America's withdrawal from Iraq." -- but not only are we still in Iraq, we have more troops in Afganistan than ever.
"In April and June, Obama forced Chrysler and GM into bankruptcy." -- only to bail them out with federal funds! - Zomgondo, on 11/03/2009, -4/+87The fact that he's pissing off the lefties AND the righties tells me he's doing exactly what he should be doing: governing, not pandering. There's a large number of very vocal people in this country who have this entitlement mentality that The President should do whatever they want, but the job is "run the country", not "represent the voters who whine the loudest."
- demod8698, on 11/03/2009, -15/+95I think a bigger part of the issue with what he "hasn't" accomplished are the believers of instant gratification. Things take time folks...
- chaaree, on 11/03/2009, -2/+82Thumbed down for depending on SNL for "Hot-Button" issues.
- northwatuppa, on 11/03/2009, -51/+130Ron Paul, please go away.
- take2, on 11/03/2009, -59/+132I've categorized most of the list of accomplishments from Esquire for the most powerful man in the world:
New Spending:
* $350 Billion Bailout
* $787 Billion Stimulus
* Allowed Funding of Overseas Abortions
* Several Billion Cash for Clunkers
Autos:
* Forced GM and Chrysler into Bankruptcy
* Cash for Clunkers
* Allowed California Emission standards to go forward
Announcements/Speeches:
* Closing Guantanamo (Still Open)
* Withdrawal from Iraq (Still there, and will be for many years, perhaps decades to come)
* Gave a speech to Muslim World
Appointments:
* Sonya Sotomayor Supreme Court
* Appointed a holdover to Secretary of Defense
* Appointed a former Clinton Cabinet official to head the CIA
* Appointed a General to head up military forces in Afghanistan
War:
* Increased Drone Bombing in Afghanistan
* Reinstated military tribunals for Al Qaeda detainees
* Increased troop levels in Afghanistan - mikemx7f, on 11/03/2009, -1/+70Hey, I gotta tell you a secret. SNL didn't mock a liberal president since 2001 because there wasn't a liberal president in office.
- RentalCanoe, on 11/03/2009, -35/+97Ron Paul would've needed to receive more than 38 votes. Heck, I think "Bart Simpson" faired better as a write in.
- ell0bo, on 11/03/2009, -4/+63so stay off Fox News
- penguinofspades, on 11/03/2009, -19/+76its like shifting from 5th to reverse on the freeway, you can't just change directions and expect nothing bad to happen. if nothing else, give him credit for setting the stage, if change doesn't happen during his presidency, it will happen in the next one, and it will be a direct result of his actions.
- asgardshill, on 11/03/2009, -16/+72Looks like a Freeper field trip in progress ...
- Hellman109, on 11/04/2009, -6/+61YOU MEAN HE SLEEPS AT NIGHT IN A TIME LIKE THIS
OOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEE
Dick Cheney never needs to sleep, he just eats kittens to stay awake. - Spetz, on 11/03/2009, -8/+56"The question is why we've turned so small and mean that we only see half of it — the half we happen to agree with."#
That's politics right there. - kingmanic, on 11/03/2009, -3/+50Canadian point of view: Obama is so far RIGHT he makes our Conservatives look like dirty hippies.
On the generally agreed upon left right spectrum
Democrats: Right of center.
Republicans: Extreme far right. - maestroh, on 11/03/2009, -2/+48Two weeks after that, I visited the local strip club - a $150 accomplishment
- DrummerAndrew, on 11/03/2009, -31/+77He's doing a hell of a job. If nothing else, I can watch his speeches without the desire to off myself.
- ironhide, on 11/03/2009, -3/+48Now there's an intelligent rebuttal.
- Batfishy, on 11/03/2009, -29/+71"I had to stop reading after the first few..." Great way to inform yourself.
- Ryan32, on 11/03/2009, -3/+45By that same logic, i guess Bush accomplished 2 wars.... And he accomplished the patriot act.
Sounds ***** retarded doesn't it? - TBBucs, on 11/03/2009, -14/+55The critics won't bother to read that. They need bullet points.
- woodsjransom, on 11/03/2009, -17/+58OK I will bite. If Ron Paul had been elected paint a picture for me where would we be today. Especially with a picture for those who became unemployed, failed businesses, no health care, people getting foreclosed on etc. (thanks)
- chaaree, on 11/03/2009, -5/+45Best comment on this entire article, thus far. Kudos to you!
- Wargala, on 11/03/2009, -66/+106Wow! In under a year, he's spent trillions of dollars we don't have! Weren't you Digg users complaining about Bush bringing us from $5 trillion in the hole to $10? Well according to the CBO, Obama's going to bring us from $10 to $17. And if you can't do math, that's MORE then what Bush has spent.
- askantik, on 11/03/2009, -3/+42You're an idiot. You think Obama was the liberal person in the Senate? So that means you'd be more happy with Bernie Sanders as President, as would I... perhaps we can work up some kind of a deal? That deal will arguably only work out if you continue being a retard, but I'm counting on it...
- Alli3388, on 11/03/2009, -34/+72Not everything happens overnight, stupid. Anyone with a brain knows that some things take time. I.e. he is in the process of moving all the prisoners out of Gitmo, as he finds places for them (which takes all kind of diplomatic and legal measures), OBVIOUSLY they can't pull out of Iraq all at once - DUH - And there hasn't been anywhere near enough time for us to know what economic measures he's supported have worked or haven't.
God people are dumb. - ceredron, on 11/03/2009, -2/+37read past the first two sentences, bro
- Logicexe, on 11/03/2009, -14/+49You're focusing on one policy issue you disagree with and two that are logistically difficult and time consuming. The point of the article is not that Obama has only done good things, just that he has accomplished quite a bit in less than a year. Whether you think his accomplishments are good or bad is a whole seperate debate.
- ApokalypseNow, on 11/03/2009, -8/+43Butt-hurt? Jealousy? Spite? Ignorance?
- AgeofMastery, on 11/03/2009, -17/+52If Ron Paul had been elected NOTHING would have happened. Do you really think the mainstream of either party would have voted for his plans?
You accuse Obama of being radical but Ron Paul is farther removed from the political mainstream than Obama. - diggduggDOOM, on 11/03/2009, -25/+59"If we had done the right thing and elected Ron Paul that list would be about 20 pages long and they'd already be starting to carve his image into Mount Rushmore."
...and some morons accuse Obama supporters of worshiping him as a messiah. - Itsatrapackbar, on 11/03/2009, -12/+44Unfortunately, the conservatives seem to think he's the messiah. No idea where that came from.
- demod8698, on 11/03/2009, -3/+35Yeah well, good luck without us ;)
