For a better breakdown of Toronto murders see: http://www.cbc.ca/toronto/features/homicide2008/ (and yes, it does show a lot of murders are shooting) - vtnerd, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Here you go: http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/cst01/legal01.htm
It looks like more people in CA die from being stabbed than from being shot in 3 out of the last 5 years that have recorded statistics on display.
You better get your politicians to take away your knives too b/c, let's face it, knives kill people. < / sarcasm >
And good luck defending yourself without a gun if you happen to be part of the ~600 people that get murdered every year. But you'll no doubt take comfort in the fact that your celebrating having no legal means of self defense ensured your demise. - musters, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I'd say Toronto has the lowest homicide rate in comparison to American cities because they have Tim Hortons.
- vtnerd, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1You can't buy guns in Canada?
- RuffRidr, on 07/25/2008, -2/+2That is the best argument for gun control that you have ever seen?!? You do realize that those graphs are for homicide rates in general, not homicide rates where the perpetrator used a gun, don't you? For a more meaningful comparison, look at Washington D.C., Chicago, and New York. In these cities, it is supposedly very hard to get handguns. Yet the homicide rate is still up there. It's not the guns. The sooner we get past that and start working on the real issues causing this violence, the better off we will all be.
- canrocks, on 07/25/2008, -1/+1Yeah, but it's infinitely harder to get guns in Canada then it is in those American cities - the guns have to be smuggled across the border, which is much more secure than a city boundary.
- rotry, on 07/25/2008, -1/+0it's good to be up north
