- amdahlj, on 10/11/2007, -10/+810I support this man's right to not support his right to do what he is doing in order to support my right to not support what he is doing.
- amdahlj, on 10/11/2007, -10/+303I've been staring at that 'G', and I've come to the conclusion that it is, in fact, one 'C' going down on another 'C'.
- MalTheObscure, on 10/11/2007, -3/+230I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.
- Sphonix, on 10/11/2007, -8/+152WOW. Someone on digg finally used ironic correctly! Coincidence != Ironic.
- topbravo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+144Flowchart please?
- brstilson, on 10/11/2007, -35/+154Ahhh Islam. The religion of double standards
- nevetando, on 10/11/2007, -7/+105it is really very sad that they do not appreciate the irony of this... the same freedom that allowed the artist to mock Mohammed, allows them to protest that artist. They take advantage of democratic freedoms to decry the western world. that is the power of a brainwashing religion, and under-educated zealots.
- airquotes, on 10/11/2007, -4/+81He says "free expresion go to hell!" I say to him, "Free expression. Go to hell!"
- lcaller, on 10/11/2007, -3/+75This was from the cartoon protest help in London. Some of the other signs called for death to all non believers etc etc . These people are now serving time for incitement to murder. The BBC has some great reports on the whole event.
- JacKrac, on 10/11/2007, -1/+44A different angle of the same sign:
http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2006/02/03/protest1.jpg
Some more from the cartoon protest:
http://www.standwithus.com/gallery/cartoonprotest/index.asp - proghead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+37Mitch Hedberg RIP
- ninti, on 10/11/2007, -1/+35Not bad, but the world's most ironic protester is still the "Get a brain! Morans" guy.
http://media.urbandictionary.com/image/large/moran-7512.jpg - nartvq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31I think you're oversimplifying the issue here.
- leandra, on 10/11/2007, -13/+39That's pretty true across the board, not just Islam. Without pointing any fingers... just take a look at some other major religions.
- chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29exclamation points are the new bold.
- hoojus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24It was Danish not Dutch
- Shadowe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25Lets not get into a pissing match over which religion is better/has less double standards. Remember Extremism is the true evil. Extreme Christians, Extreme Muslims, Take anything to extremes, and it's dangerous. This is doubly so with ideology.
- orvtech, on 10/11/2007, -5/+29i can't believe that dude is doing that... wile we in Venezuela have to fight against Chavez forces to watch tv, express ourselves, eat, etc.. he is using his right to expression to ... i just don't get it.
here is a little illustration of what i am talking about : http://www.noolvidaremos.com/Fotos.html - 5xSTUN, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Islam is definitely the Religion of Double Standards, like when they dutifully protect the women of their nations, right up until the point when they publicly stone them to death for not committing suicide to prevent themselves from being forcibly raped.
- revenge7, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22Ahhh [insert religion here]. The religion of double standards.
- evilregis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it. -- Mitch Hedberg
- andyd273, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16"I don't think that means what you think it means"
- adjustafresh, on 10/11/2007, -12/+27Beautiful.
The sign is about as ironic as Diggers using the new comments system to complain about how much they hate the new comments system. - TotalHalibut, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17This comment wins Digg today.
- themilkman, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20yes!
- Imagin8, on 10/11/2007, -17/+31I think this is about the Dutch cartoon incident...
and his saying "freedom of expression go to hell"
I noticed that sign at the back saying something about "insult prophet" - Godlike, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Nobody uses 'begging the question' correctly either.
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Why do you write the way that black kid in the wheelchair on malcolm in the middle talks?
- rot13ubercrypto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14I think this is a protest in London from a while ago. The sign in back was saying something like "kill those who insult the prophet (Mohammed)." There were others saying things like "behead those who oppose islam" and "Europe, take some lessons from 9/11". I'm pretty sure this was something put on by Abu Hamza al-Masri.
Nonetheless it's just a bunch of radical morons getting their panties in a bunch about something or other, usually over a perceived insult to islam. They're about on the same level of believability as the Westboro Baptist Church (the guys waving "God hates fags" signs at US military burials.) - Hawk2007, on 10/11/2007, -7/+19You're exactly right.
Replace the Koran with Bible and rabidstrike would be dugg up by +160 now. Instead, he offended the Koran and we must seek retribution.
Your argument holds no wait because I have seen far too many generalizations of the Bible as well that reach wide appeal here on digg. At least in a Christian state, you're free to chose if you want to believe. In a Muslim state, it most certainly means death either by the government, or villagers. - Shadowe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12No it does not make it right. It's not an issue of right and wrong, It's an issue "rights". Rights have nothing to do with morals. It is morally wrong for me to call you an idiot, but I have the right to do so. Free Speech is not "nice" but it's necessary for our country to survive. It is necessary for Tolerance, the minute you start telling people what they can and cannot say, then you open the door for all kinds of government controls.
- gamerscalling, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Maybe I should have quoted the entire rights bit from Monty Python's Life of Brian.
I thought it fit quite well with his post. Oh well, here it is.
Judith: [on Stan's desire to be a mother] Here! I've got an idea: Suppose you agree that he can't actually have babies, not having a womb - which is nobody's fault, not even the Romans' - but that he can have the *right* to have babies.
Francis: Good idea, Judith. We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have babies, brother... sister, sorry.
Reg: What's the *point*?
Francis: What?
Reg: What's the point of fighting for his right to have babies, when he can't have babies?
Francis: It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression.
Reg: It's symbolic of his struggle against reality. - vudicarus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11err...not quite. But maybe Alanis Morissette can use your example.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14anybody else notice that in a lot of these protests the signs all look like they were lettered by the same person??
- techweenie1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10yeah he certainly looks like the joking type.
- adolfojp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I see what you did there. And I like it!
- DisposableRob, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12It could get a little more ironic, like one of those peace protsts where everyone is packing an AK-47.
- ZetaSagittarii, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8"When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion, it is called Religion." - Robert M. Pirsig
- postitnote, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Which begs the question, why do people use it at all?
- MxM111, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Link please?
- woobster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Digg REALLY needs to get a picture section
- brstilson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Extreme Christians like the Westboro Baptist Church and the KKK are never supported by mainline Christianity. In fact, they're often spoken against. In the muslim world, the so-called "extremist" groups are tolerated and even encouraged by the mainline Islamic leadership. Very rarely do we see any muslims speaking publicly against the genocide in Darfur, the treatment of women in Saudi Arabia, or the suicide bombers of Hamas.
The difference between Christianity and Islam is that Christianity condemns violence, while Islam gives it a nod and a wink. - adolfojp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Thanks! This disproves the photoshop myth. :-)
- wqwert, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7that is a very colbert-ian comment -- nice
- rderveloy, on 10/11/2007, -8/+14Flowcharts, we don't need no stinkin' flowcharts! The poster is simply saying he or she supports free speech, even if that means letting people protest it, so he or she can voice their dissent at those who protest free speech.
In other words, freedom of speech applies to everyone, even those you disagree with, or it's not freedom of speech. - adb44, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Is this more ironic than "LET ARE KIDS WALK"?
- Bandito, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7"WE'RE NOT GONNA PROTEST!"
- P.C.U. - fluffywire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6How adept they are at using our freedoms to destroy our freedoms. Why did they ever leave their 7th century paradise to live in the decadent West? Similarily, how is it that Mexicans hate America, but every damn one wants to live there?
- Shadowe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7We are not a christian state, I am a christian, and I say "Thank God we are not a christian state." The US was founded on Christian values, but our country is not governed by religion, nor is Christianity mandated to our citizens.
- converge, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11That truly is the world's most weirdest "G".
