- laroja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20It is beyond ridiculous for any of them to try to defend the use of the word "Easter". It is not even Christian; in fact it is as pagan as you can get. "Easter" is the Anglicized name of a pagan goddess of springtime. It was from her spring festival that the Christians derived all of the ritual, bunnies, eggs etc., of Easter. It is a throughly pagan holiday. Christians are all blasphemers, aren't they? Really, saying Easter is invoking the Goddess:)
- SaintDogbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12The Easter Bunny died on the cross for our sins.
He rose again three days later and saw his own shadow which meant six more weeks of winter.
He gives us chocolate eggs and jelly beans so we can survive the cold days until spring really comes.
Read the Bible! - geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12There is so much stupidity on all sides that this is just sad. Laroja hit the nail on the head. Easter does not exclusively refer to Jesus's resurrection.
So why do we have a couple places removing the word "Easter"? But also, why do we have Fox News reporting about it FIVE YEARS after the fact? Fox puts this into a segment called "the big story" when that is exactly the opposite of what this is. When stupidity like this happens it sure makes apparent the agendas organizations have. - mrmcbastard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"War on Easter," "War on Terror," "War on Drugs," "War on Christmas" ... Why is everything a "War on" something? How come it's not a "dispute" or a "slightly annoying thing" or a "confusion about" something? All the news media's sensationalism (especially Fox News) is creating a "War on My Nerves!"
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Let me sum this up so you don't have to waste time clicking the above link:
Walnut Creek believes Easter is a Christian religious symbol (which is isn't) and wanted to change the name five years ago to make everyone happy. It took Fox News five years to get on the case.
Headline should read: Misguided and ill-informed political correctness meets poor journalism. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Maybe the bunny could sell official renaming rights to corporate sponsors. The Meineke Muffler Bunny. The Nationwide Insurance Bunny. The Office Depot Bunny.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The War on Easter was a setup by this administration to get more Easter Eggs. We should really be focusing on the War on Christmas, but I suppose they never really wanted to catch Santa bin Kringle in the first place.
Get our troops out of this Egg Hunt! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Thank you Easter Bunny! Bawk bawk!
Sorry about that. I think it's a Pavlovian response to the words "easter bunny". - fordicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3while we're at it, I find the term "bunny" offensive. Can we change that too?

ah the onion. how do they stay so far ahead of the game. - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hate to burst your bubble, but James Cameron recently discovered the Easter Bunny's tomb. Buried in it was the Easter Bunny, his wife, and four dozen cadbury eggs with solidified creamy centers.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The use of "war" is for ignorant people to fill in the gaps of what could be a nuanced conversation with emotional responses and knee-jerk reactions. Hopefully they'll tune in every night for continued coverage of the "war".
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And with all this "bring the troops home" crap, commie bunny-killing liberals have now declared "War on War!" How un-Christian is that?
All I want to know is: when does the War on "John Gibson" get underway? I'll buy popcorn. - SaintDogbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2James Cameron's evidence is very shaky. While the names on the tomb were historically correct, it proves very little as over half of the bunnies of the time were named Peter, Flopsy, or Mopsy.
Also chemical analysis seems to debunk the claim that the writing on the tomb was done in Paas ink. - hiPpymIck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2info

"Moving forward fifteen hundred years, we find ourselves in Germany, where children await the arrival of Oschter Haws, a rabbit who will lay colored eggs in nests to the delight of children who discover them Easter morning. It was this German tradition that popularized the 'Easter bunny' in America, when introduced into the American cultural fabric by German settlers in Pennsylvania." - z00k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know what, I support the War on easter and the War on Christmas!
- mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's probably all the Indians and Chinese in Walnut Creek who are behind this.
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ignore Fox News? John Gibson is one of the last true journalists of our time! Ignore him at your own peril, and at the peril of every vaguely christian holiday!
- dracostimpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shhhhh..... be vewy vewy quiet.... I'm hunting da Eastew Wabbit.
- goodegg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Who cares what they call it? As long as it leaves those delicious eggs!
Really, we need to learn how to ignore Fox News --- only then is there a chance that it will disappear and leave us all in peace. - Liam76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@ laroja
Yeah lets tradition out the window, because the easter bunny somehow oppresses non-christians, and because it has pagan roots.
Most people know that many christian holidays have roots in pagan holidays, but after a thousand or so years I think the christians have pretty much taken ownership of the word.
Actually I am all for the spring bunny, and happy holidays as long as ramadan is always refered to as "Autumn fasting month." - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"It is beyond ridiculous for any of them to try to defend the use of the word "Easter". It is not even Christian"
I suppose next you'll say Halloween isn't a Christian holiday either.
