- sh0k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19So, let's recap.
The US Government cannot protect its people from massive terrorist attacks on major cities.
The US Government cannot react to threats in a sane manner.
The US Government cannot provide health care for its citizens.
The US Government cannot provide basic education funds for all of its schools.
The US Government cannot curb poverty in the homeland.
("So what the hell are they good for, then?!")
The US Government cannot exercise self-control when considering whether to, or not to, occupy a country and destroy the lives/homes/futures of its citizens.
The US Government cannot protect its borders.
The US Government cannot effectively wage war, even an unneeded one.
The US Government focuses more on "offense"(imperialism) than it does on "defense"(protection of the homeland through border and coast safety.)
The US Government is the single largest creator of terrorists in the last 50 years.
The US Government oversteps its legal authority at home by spying on its own citizens.
The US Government does not speak for the people.
The US Government does speak for those with money.
The US Government will deny all of the above points, and you may be labeled "terrorist" if your ideals differ to a large degree.
In their defense, I will say that the US Government does do an EXCELLENT job of satiating its citizens.
Get the off your ass, america. - mu1ti, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20"dangerous for Americans to even talk about"
what a pathetic attempt at rhetoric... - Phaetonsurge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23I'm pretty sure everyone is aware that Rumsfeld is nothing more than a tool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Time to "retire" Rumsfeld, Cheney, Perle and the rest of the scumbags.
- anareric, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15My goodness
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Held is ground? His retort was along the lines of "name one time I said things would be going smoothly" I can recall quite a few myself where his statements indicated things were just that. Especially during the "unorganized last chancers" era of speechs.
- indicas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@clarkmoody: Yes, I listened to what he said to her. Of course she went into the meet with questions prepared - and of course he did not have to read any notes, I'm sure he has the "Everything is going fine, we're going to WIN! Yeah!" speech memorized!
Give me a break. - rjmills, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Is all this really happening or is this a sick sequel to 1984? Or is this a modern retelling of the Vietnam War?
Seriously, can someone tell me what the hell is wrong with these people and what the hell is wrong with the people who trust these people? - indicas, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18Hillary tore him a new one, I love it. She made very good points.
- StephnDolenc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12i was hoping this would be a link to a wav file of a domino falling...
- BiggyDiggs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11We're in Iraq for good. Good, bad, or indifferent, that's the way it is, so get used to it. The next president will inherit this mess, and that president is going to maintain a huge military presence as well, regardless of political party.
This conflict in the Mideast is about to become nightmarish. I'm scared. - Livewire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Hold on to it, there's now much left in the world.
- fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The sooner this man is tried for war crimes and left with his feet dangling in the air the better off everyone will be.
- TTheSpook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4AAAAHHHHHHH!!! ***** STOP IT!!!!! *Begins to shoot himself in the head, knowing that humanity is meant for so much more than this *****, but not as long as stupid ***** like this keep writing history. Only George Carlin, Lewis Black, Richard Pryor, Carl Sagan, and ***** Hellboy, have showed me any better. Too bad we cant kick this unelected punkass out on his ass and get someone with the intelligence of an above average human being. Maybe someone who wont make the same mistakes as the very same type of self-righteous ***** as people like MCarthy did. History indeed DOES repeat itelf... for the worse.
- TTheSpook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Also this will accomplish nothing more than making 3 different states within Iraq and also creating the same problem we have with ISreal and Palestine, but tenfold.
- tomboy501, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@stephenDolenc
see "V for Vendetta" trailer. - DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ultimately we'll probably see partition of Iraq into Shia, Sunni and Kurdish regions. This will immediately pose problems for Turkey... they really, really do not want an autonomous Kurdish state sitting on their southern border. This will likely mean that the US will need to station substantial resources in Kurdish territory to keep the Turks happy and on their side of the border. There will be increasing pressure for the Iraqi Shia to align with Iran. I don't think that the Sunni can expect any help from the Arabian peninsula since the governments there are more concerned about their own survival than some Sunni brothers in the middle of Iraq. I don't think we want to be caught in the middle trying to keep the Shia and Sunni appart.
So the question is really how do we get out of this mess? One way that I see is to tell the Iraqis that they have had their chance. They have a government (of a sort) and an army (of a sort). Good luck. Don't call us; we'll call you. Withdraw a good sized contingent to Kurdish territory. Let them come to their own solution (which in fact they will do sooner or later). - Mtap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Cool Article, and one of the coolest titles ever, though misleading.
- NoahVail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2McNamera & Kissinger should have gone to jail, too. When Ford passed out the pardons, all of these war criminals were given a pass. Cheney was around then to see that there would be someone to take care of him and his crew. The fact that the same war profiteers would jump at their first chance to re-ignite Viet Nam in a different guise should not be surprising.
- skytimelapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2congrats, that is the first time anyone has ever used Carl Sagan and Hellboy in the same sentance.
- NoahVail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Big Mucho is living in the same dream world as Rumsfeld.
- piznut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ahh the typical repug response to valid complaints about the current administration..blame the last one.
- wxtwxtr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What do you expect from the the man who man who brought you ASPARTAME, one of the most subtly effective poisons in our food-o-sphere! Spend an hour googling that word any you'll see that his war efforts here are minor league by comparison...
- piznut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This problem isnt going to get any nearer to a resolution or even a partial resolution until after the current administration is out of power. America's credibility with the world has been so damaged by Bushco that the only way to even approach solving this problem is to start with a relatively clean slate.
- Waylander1970, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Yes, but Hilary also made a big deal about the GTA / violent game law so perhaps she is just a politician being a politician (for example, lying through her teeth or just trying to say the right thing at the right time),
Either way, I don't trust Hilary. - Danimalish, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Liberals don't understand war. They believe we live in the Garden of Eden and the world would be perfect and in harmony with everything if there just were no republicans. It's convenient for them to want nice cozy little world, because that is where they live. Once they step into reality, it demands a wake up call. -The great Bill Clinton sustained American Forces in more places around the world undertaking more missions than George Bush has ever planned. Somalia, Kosovo, etc. Not to mention is utter failure of policy, or lack there of in Liberia!
- d1carter, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Well said!
- Tsujigiri, on 10/12/2007, -12/+9Yoo know, you're only helping the terrorists by debating this.
- capitalcity, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0How dare American military might be used for its intended purpose. How dare we help the freedom fighters martyr themselves.
War Crimes? Give me a break Markos. - Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2You know....as much as I disagree with a good deal of the decisions on how many troops were sent to Iraq and some of the tactics being used there currently, I'm not convinced that the ousting of Rummy would magically fix everything and make the world a rosy place.
I don't think electing a different party is going to help, I don't think empty bickering in front of the cameras is going to help, I don't think pointing fingers at one another and finding blame is going to help, I don't think firing anyone is going to help.
The only thing that's going to help Iraq is the Iraqi people's realization that working together without murdering the families of those who disagree with a particular mindset is the best course to take for their country.
This isn't just a security problem. This is an Iraqi leadership problem. The only people who can help Iraq at this point are the Iraqi people themselves.
Blaming the babysitter because they didn't chain the kids in the basement until they behaved isn't going to fix anything. - capitalcity, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Libiots are pissed?
Sound like Rummy is doing a great job. - Libcrusher, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0A New Crock Times editorial following that shrill bee-otch Billary's prepared speech before the committee -- and all these septic tank dwelling liberals bow down like the Muslim masters they worship. Too bad liberals can't tie their shoes (they don't know which foot the shoes belong), conduct logical discussions (they don't have logical brainwave patterns), or get involved in matters that require varying degrees of tact, courage, and patience.
Let's see the liberazzalahs start carping about the phony photos, the fraudulent wire stories, and other such propaganda designed to enhance their political views -- forgetting it will be their head's chopped off first if or when the Islamofacists ever get control (which would suit the liberals just fine -- until it happens, then they'd suck George Bush's dick to have a strong and determined leader back in the White House). - culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2"Yoo know, you're only helping the terrorists by debating this."
I sincerely hope yoo're being ironic.
/See Dick, see Jane, see Spot. See Dick press the "Check Spelling" button before pressing "Submit Comment" so that Jane and Spot don't laugh at his atrocious spelling. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2The "Cut and Win" crowd spews it's fantasy. Yeah and Bush will be impeached, too.
ROFL - BigMucho, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3How many of you goofs even listened to it or read the transcript? Hillary just badgered him with the same old crap, to which he held his ground. No points gained for either side.
- clarkmoody, on 10/12/2007, -25/+6Did you even listen to what he said to her?
Her entire speech / questions were canned. He didn't have to read his notes to rebutt her rediculous remarks. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -25/+3fHillary
- BigMucho, on 10/12/2007, -28/+2... also, I love how the Democratic party is still playing the "Evil War" card. Republicans love you for it, look how well it worked for Kerry!
