Yes, the evidence is mounting & clear that the Republican administration knew there were no WMDs, so they tried to create intel via torture to justify invading a sovereign nation while murdering 100,000+ Iraqis.
Can anyone say fascism?
- MiddleAmerica, on 05/13/2009, -6/+40
Curious, where's ex-President Bush? He signed-off on the torture. He pitched the immediate threat in fake detail of the WMDs. He also repeatedly strongly said that we do not torture.
And WTF is Cheney's family doing on air defending illegal activities? Are we going to see the Bush twins next?
I think Bush owes us an explanation, & not some soft interview on Fox either, but one where he's asked tough questions that aren't given to him in advance.
- sugarazor, on 05/13/2009, -7/+27I suggest we rename the "Cheney Torture Tour" to "Dick's Get Out of Jail Free Card."
- Alheithinn, on 05/14/2009, -5/+20I agree, diggmike8. This is no surprise. Republican policy dictates that reality must be made to conform to ideological beliefs.
- diggmike8, on 05/14/2009, -6/+19More and more it appears the underlying 'postmodernist' principle of the Republican PR machine system at its strongest was 'we can make the American public believe the reality we want them to, and damn the facts (cf. some of the McCain camp claims about Obama during and after the campaign); likewise, Cheney and the PNAC's world-domination fantasies appear to partake of the same--borderline sociopathic--hubris. We are Republicans, the powerful, we don't surrender to the facts; we create reality for the rest of the world.
- inactive, on 05/14/2009, -5/+15The iraq war never was about WMD, democracy or that freedom *****, it was to create a small scale war that could be profitable to private contractors, military and civilian ones, human life is worthless before the all mighty dollar.
- Alheithinn, on 05/14/2009, -2/+12If it happened on Bush's watch, he is still responsible. The "I didn't know what was going on" excuse didn't work in Nuremberg and it doesn't work now. Any leader knows he's responsible for what happens on his shift or his watch.
- inactive, on 05/14/2009, -2/+12Which war? And how does investigating wrong doing take away from the war effort?
- brucealmighty, on 05/14/2009, -4/+13The most damning evidence of Cheney's guilt and fear of exposure is simply all the time and public appearances he is spending trying to pre-empt any investigations. As VP he was almost always hunkered down out of sight in one of his 'undisclosed locations' and now suddenly he's in full scale PR battle mode? This is not a man who likes to be questioned or debated, especially in public, unless he believes the risks of remaining quiet are simply too great to ignore.
- kareemachan, on 05/14/2009, -2/+10Remember, he was the Decider.
- siali, on 05/14/2009, -3/+11In a sense he is doing something smart. He knows that he will be guilty in the court of law, so he is trying to exonerate himself in the public court and avoid the court of law. At the same time, if any new terrorist attacks happens, he is the one who says I told you and single-handily revives the dying GOP. The irony is that if there is going to be any attacks it wouldn't be because of lack of torture, but because of people like him who terrorists count on to ruin US.
- JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -1/+9You might as well face facts. The Republican Party is in the hands of the Christaliban.
- JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -4/+11I think the word is "sociopathic".
- JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -0/+7Bush (or more likely Cheney) authorized torture to get people to support his claim that Iraq was behind 911.
They had no other need or use for it. Even the interrogators admit torture isn't reliable for anything - except for getting people to say what they think you want them to say.
You are without a clue (or a moral compass). - inactive, on 05/14/2009, -4/+11You know I reallu don't care to see Cheney's name in the news until the INDICTMENTS are released!
- wingo123, on 05/14/2009, -1/+8It's actually an un-spoken rule/tradition that ex-presidents do not say anything once they leave office. It is generally the case that they do not speak out publicly, either to justify their own policies or to criticize the new administration's policies.
I've heard that sources close to Bush have said that he is actually quite miffed that Cheney is going around saying this stuff. It's traditionally not cool to do so.
Dick is just a dick. - SolitaireRose, on 05/14/2009, -0/+6I think we're upset that the President and Vice-President violated US law and appear to be getting away with it.
REAGAN is the one who made waterboarding and other "harsh" techniques a crime. Why do you hate Ronald Reagan so much? - vinod1978, on 05/14/2009, -2/+8The real reason the Cheney clan is coming out now is because it's a great marketing strategy. Let me explain. Right now most Americans believe that we are "safe", meaning that there is not an eminent threat to Americans in the USA. What happens if there is another attack on our soil? All Americans (including myself) have political ADD. Americans will remember what Cheney is saying and will start encouraging things like torture, and illegal wiretaps. Americans want their freedom but when an attack happens we have a way of changing out mind, and that is what the republican party is hoping. They are hoping for an attack. They are simply trying to continue to use FEAR as a way of manipulating the political process. He's the same old Dick, with new car smell.
- DangerCollie, on 05/14/2009, -2/+8If that's true, it borders on treason.
The longer the Republicans keep sticking by their failures of the past, the longer they're going to handicap any possibility of getting back in the political game. - inactive, on 05/14/2009, -1/+7Ok lets call them ***** evil cocksucking assramming murder-rapists then. Is that a better word than fascist?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNAGt0aAtw0 - JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -1/+7What a ***** loon.
Saddam was a dictator. He was one of a number of dictators.
There was no national security reason to invade Iraq, though there were good reasons NOT to do so at that time.
Though you'll do anything to deny it, your lying leaders lied us into a war, and mismanaged it terribly. - jasonbalmforth, on 05/14/2009, -1/+7Just about the most relevant video link I've ever seen on digg. A must see for all torture apologists that defend the efficacy of information extracted under duress.
- inactive, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5only partially, i think TJ has it right.
- JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -1/+6Failure of logic and reason, on your part.
Identifying one dead terrorist but ignoring the (increased) number of living terrorists, is a tragic failure of reason. And honesty. - ckuhn555, on 05/14/2009, -2/+7Yes, the evidence is mounting & clear that the Republican administration knew there were no WMD
wake up the evidence has always been there. Search out PBS video on line recorded over 4 yrs ago on How Bush, RumsieCheney made their mind up to go to war....for His Daddy revenge on Saddam and OIL and Power. Check it out - JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -1/+6Supporting a liar who uses fabricated evidence to get our country into a war isn't fighting terrorists.
To the contrary, Cheney's decision diverted resources AWAY from fighting terrorists. - NinjaGod, on 05/14/2009, -4/+9FASCISM
They have it. - stephenponce, on 05/14/2009, -1/+6Yeah - theres nothing Republican about Ron Paul, except that he's a republican congressman for the state of texas...and that he formally declared his candidacy for the 2008 Republican nomination on CSPAN.
That sounds like he's republican to me.
The truth is the mess left by Bush/Cheney have clearly tarnished the Republican party, and there was no way another Republican was going to make it into the white house after America let those two ***** stay in office for 8 years...
Personally, I blame the conservative christians, since some of their main worries include: preventing gay marriage and making abortion illegal again.
Here's a thought, maybe if they put the ***** bible down for 2 seconds and read some ***** history or even the newspaper, they would realize
1. gay people have existed throughout human civilization (Greece, Rome, Egypt, etc). And there's no point in trying to prevent the inevitable. Plus why the ***** do they care? oh to protect the children right?...give me a break
2. Roe v. Wade went to the Supreme Court and won 7 to 2! The supreme court has decided the right to abortion is protected by our Constitution. Get the ***** over it.
I love how you can be 'pro-life' and pro-torture. Pro-life is all about protecting the innocent fetus, what about a living (innocent until proven guilty) adult human being who isnt being killed but severely tortured over months/years. The hypocrisy is unreal sometimes - JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -1/+6Another Republican tactic: Call anyone who is a bad guy a "terrorist".
Saddam wasn't behind 911, despite your lying leaders false claims.
By your tactic, Cheney was a terrorist. - JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -1/+6Iraq was not the source of terrorism.
Our soldiers occupied Iraq, after the invasion based on lies, rather than pursuing terrorists. - inactive, on 05/14/2009, -1/+6They didn't give up, they were forced out. ;)
- vinod1978, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4IYI - First of all, what is done in the field, when soldiers are attacked and what is done when they are brought back to a cell are two completely different things. Pirates held an American solider hostage - of course they were killed - and nothing is wrong with that, because it was in the field. If they had taken the pirate to GB and then shot him we would have been enraged. Please try to use common sense on your next comment. Wait just a few more seconds before you hit the Save Reply button, and you might actually end up using your brain.
- chevyorange, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5Going to use an asinine tactic here, prefacing my statement with whatever suits my ideology.
- monkeywithgun, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5Ah... if only people like you cared about fighting wrong doings regardless of who perpetrates them maybe we wouldn't be at war!
- inactive, on 05/14/2009, -2/+6We are in two wars at the moment, which one are you referring to? And what does the enemies treatment of others have to do with the US? Are you saying we should stoop to their level? If that's the case, we already lost.
- mithrasinvictus, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4He doesn't need one, Obama's got his back.
- AndrewMoyer, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5I wouldn't say it's free...
If he doesn't see jail time, then the cost to mankind will be immeasurable. - AmazingSteve, on 05/15/2009, -0/+4Ummm, has the Republican bury brigade and it's war on Palin stories during the election slipped your tiny, warped mind already?
- diggduggDOOM, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5Ron Paul is mocked by his own party - Republicans.
You can say that they don't represent "real republicanism" (and, yes, I know what that means), but you won't convince a significant number of voters until the Republicans and their supporters stop calling themselves Republicans.
Just look at the confusion between Libertarian and libertarian (or libertarianism). - zydeco, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4So the fact that Bush can't tell Cheney to cool it just proves who really wore the pants in the White House.
- Groovydoo, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5I just saw an article by Karl Rove accusing Nancy Pelosi of being an accessory Pelosi to torture. Well, if Pelosi is an accessory to torture, guess who is holding the "smoking gun," Dick?
- sluggybuggy, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Saddam ran Iraq in the same way that the Mafia would run a country. Worse ***** has been going on in Africa for a long time, but no one gives a ***** because it's Africa. The worst of Saddam's crimes that people always bring up, the gassing of cities, happened way back in the 80's when he had support of America through *****-stains like Donald Rumsfeld. He didn't give a ***** about it back then and he didn't give a ***** about it in 2003 either. The whole "ties to terrorist groups" thing was also complete ***** and the Bush administration knew it. Saddam ran a police state that used routinely dissapeared people for speaking out and used brutality and torture to terrorize the population in order to keep them inline. But it was a secular police state and all the religious nuts in the middle east hated him. Groups like al-quaeda were a threat to him and Saddam's only concern was staying in power. He didn't give a ***** about their holy war, and to suggest that he would be working with them to attack America was a joke.
And that's why Bush sucked. - Hetman, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5They are not the same people. Nore do they fight us for the same reasons. Since you do not consider it torture. You do not mind if Obama releases all the photos of these "Enhanced interrogations."
- vinod1978, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Ninja - I agree with some aspects. Bush didn't know what was going on, and that's why he can't come out on TV and talk about it and quite frankly Bush doesn't want to be married to the idea that he did know about torture because that would further degrade his "legacy". Cheney doesn't care about his name, however he does care about republican party, and he wants to make sure his brand of conservatism is active long after his death. Bush & Cheney should both be in jail, but it's not likely to happen - ever.
- diggduggDOOM, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3It is opinion with reference to statements and documents.
So the answer is no; it's not known to be true unless it's proven (if that's even possible for some of these items). Also, as much as I dislike the man, he's probably not actually a vampire or a demon. - MsLaurel, on 05/15/2009, -0/+3Oil is but one of the private war profiteers.
Look at the almighty dollar now: Karma, would you say? - JoeMondo, on 05/14/2009, -3/+6And Cheney is confirmed to have been the acting President for the last 8 years.
- hawkeye17, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3No we just happen to have a thing called morals...something you obviously don't have. And your "innocent" pirates were threatening to murder an American citizen you retard.
- hawkeye17, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3No we care about our country and it's future. Apparently we care much more than the torture sadists in America like Cheney. Bush/Cheney damaged this nation and Cheney continues to do so and if you support them then you're doing it too.
