Neocons favor America as an imperial power, uncontrolled deficit spending, and the bible replacing the constitution. I see little in common.
- moulin1, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2If you quoting John Mellencamp as an endorsement of conservatism you are confused. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/1022-13.htm
- johndi, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Read up on the roots of the neocons again. It didn't grow out of conservative principles. They started out as democrats, the old war-hawks of the left. Sure they adopted Bible belt moral because of the large Bible belt voting block. Ever wonder why they get caught in so many sex scandals? It is because they don't have moral values. They are just using the Church as a political tool.
They almost destroyed the democratic party before Nixon saved them via Watergate it gave them a reprieve. After Carter felt they could do better by jumping parties. Today they are destroying the GOP. The reason it is important that people know where neocons came from and that they are complete opportunists is so we don't let them jump parties again. We need to put an end to the neocon movement. - ClosedCaption, on 05/23/2008, -3/+5I heard Hannity give the same speech he did when Repubs lost in 2006. He says that conservatives lost because...wait for it...they we're conservative ENOUGH! I have to laugh because the only time he gives that speech is only after Repubs lose. Please listen to Hannity and be MORE conservative and give the Dems a bigger victory next time.
- inactive, on 05/24/2008, -1/+2That's it though, that's the problem. The only way to put an end to it in a democracy is to inform people. The TV simply will not do it, or isn't allowed to. Clear channel certainly isn't going to do it. You are left with the internet, and people that read and are on the internet... and seek to read things other than CNN or drudge... Most don't and are getting the same information on TV. You can't even reach enough people to put an end to the neocon movement with those options. It's pretty frustrating.

Some day it will come true
And this country it belongs
To folks like me and you
So let the voice of freedom
Sing out through this land
This is our country
lawl - inactive, on 05/24/2008, -1/+2Hannity is a neoconservative. His entire movement was a media creation. It was a carefully designed subset of conservative principles. It exaggerates meaningless wedge issues while methodically destroying the most important parts of our constitutional liberties. I honestly think that the goal of the straussians was a destruction of what american conservative republican values once were. The strange thing is, I don't think the people whom the movement was artificially designed to appeal to will ever figure out what they've done to them. It takes some relatively time consuming reading to understand it. It's a shame that there are huge swaths of the population that can't be reached because they can't or won't read. It's like people without phones in the old days or something. What can you do?

(Couldn't resist.) - WiseWeasel, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Conservatism isn't dead, it's just sitting this one out (along with the last few)... it's gotta be lurking somewhere around here... : P
I think Fred Thompson might be looking for a new Party, because the Republicans don't seem too interested in that agenda anymore. - pintomp3, on 05/24/2008, -1/+1you are forgetting social conservatism. that is where the republican party has gone wrong. pat buchanan and his "moral majority" managed to sway things towards social conservatism. none of the recent republicans have been about economic conservatism since before reagan. what has defined conservatives of late is being against a woman's right to choose, hatred and bigotry towards gays and minorities, cutting of social services while increasing military spending, and aggressive foreign policy to protect business interests.
