- NakedDemon, on 07/17/2008, -3/+320Clip montages like that always act as a great reminder to me about how terrible our television news coverage really is.
- SRSco, on 07/17/2008, -51/+291Uh oh, what will all the Obama fans who ***** a brick do when they see Jon Stewart blow it off? You know, because Digg worships Obama AND Stewart/Colbert?
Stewarts comments were SO on the money. Who gives a ***** over a stupid cartoon? The New Yorker has balls. Nobody with a BRAIN would realize they mean it. It's satire. It may not have been the funniest joke, but it was still a joke. Get over it.
I sure hope the New Yorker never issues an apology. Liberals love to satirize everything but their precious sacred cows (Obama being one of them.) Grow up.
I love the line about how Obama doesn't want to be painted as a muslim extremist in a cartoon by freaking out over a cartoon, because a muslim extremist has NEVER freaked out over a harmless little cartoon.
Stewart is right. - busybrain, on 07/17/2008, -3/+134Kudos to The New Yorker for creating the ultimate media ***** storm.
- lsumed, on 07/17/2008, -8/+126Great coverage from the Daily Show.
*terrorist fist bumps Jon Stewart* - EvilBaby, on 07/17/2008, -9/+114For all of us Canadian Folk, try youhide.com. I wasn't able to view just the clip, but I was able to watch the full episode or just go to ctv's site
http://watch.ctv.ca/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewar ...
and skip to to 4:40 - inactive, on 07/17/2008, -9/+92This would be better than Jon Stewart's Obama response:
Reporter: "Senator Obama, do you find the New Yorker magazine cover offensive?"
Obama: "No, I think its funny the way they mock the ridiculous misconceptions people have of me, and I hope that people see this and they realize how crazy these stereotypes are." - ajv570, on 07/17/2008, -1/+80TAKE ME TO YOUR SITUATION ROOM
- imLissy, on 07/17/2008, -15/+80My only problem is that they obviously printed the cover with the intention of stirring this kind of reaction. That and half the country is made up of idiots and they will take the cartoon seriously.
- ajfullerton, on 07/17/2008, -2/+66I love John Daily.
- chikuten, on 07/17/2008, -5/+64rofl. who watches american news for news anyways?
- EntropyFan, on 07/17/2008, -2/+58The funniest part of the joke has been the reaction of the American people.
The folks on the coasts are saying "well, I get it, but those stupid ***** in the middle of the country will never understand" and the folks in the middle of the country saying "well, I get it, but those stupid ***** on the coast will be way too sensitive about it". - hmalik, on 07/17/2008, -1/+53Obama on Larry King...
KING: Considering that, though, there's a lot of e-mails going around. It gets rather terrible. A "Newsweek" poll shows that 12 percent of America believes that you're a Muslim, and 26 believe -- 26 percent believe you were raised in a Muslim home. A lot of misinformation.
How do you fight that?
OBAMA: Well, you know, by getting on "Larry King" and telling everybody I'm a Christian and I wasn't raised in a Muslim home. And pledge allegiance to the flag. And, you know, all the things that have been reported in these e-mails are completely untrue and have been debunked again and again and again. So, all you can do is just tell the truth and trust in the American people that over time, they're going to know what the truth is.
One last point I want to -- I do want to make about these e-mails, though. And I think this has an impact on this "New Yorker" cover.
You know, this is actually an insult against Muslim-Americans, something that we don't spend a lot of time talking about. And sometimes I've been derelict in pointing that out.
You know, there are wonderful Muslim-Americans all across the country who are doing wonderful things. And for this to be used as sort of an insult, or to raise suspicions about me, I think is unfortunate. And it's not what America's all about.
See the whole interview here...

- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -1/+39Better, yes. Funnier, no.
- rinote, on 07/17/2008, -1/+35I love John, Daily.

"When using the terms 'fail,' 'fail boat,' or 'massive fail,' please ensure that the subject of your Latest Internet Catchphrase©®™ has, in fact, failed. Else, the 'fail,' 'fail boat,' or 'massive fail' boomerangs on you and your entire parents' basement." - IpecacNeat, on 07/17/2008, -3/+33What is even more funny is those folks in the South saying, "I KNEW IT!"
- quidpro, on 07/17/2008, -1/+30Oops! Zat iz not medicine!
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -2/+30Or, Kudo's to the New Yorker for quadrupling the number of issues purchased this month...
- JeremyGrieves, on 07/17/2008, -1/+28Epilepsy is a terrible affliction
- rockstarhour, on 07/17/2008, -3/+29Actually, Obama did not make a scene over the cartoon. Although he didn't necessarily find it funny, he supported the form of expression as protected free speech under the First Amendment.
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/07/ ... - Ouhei, on 07/17/2008, -1/+26Uhm, that was sort of the whole point of the video...that no one should care...
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -17/+41"Nobody with a brain would realize they mean it."
????
Yeah, that sounds really smart. Almost as smart as pinning the outrage on the liberals, when I clearly saw several right wing pundits and John McCain himself "freaking out" over it as well, as you put it. I don't see why some right wingers take every possible chance to generalize liberals in that way, as if we're all the same. You, sir, are the one who needs to grow up.
Oh, and heres a hint, if you "realize" something, that means its true. - Takfam, on 07/17/2008, -1/+24One just has to google "Obama muslim" to see how many idiots are out there.
- archiesteel, on 07/17/2008, -2/+24"Liberals love to satirize everything but their precious sacred cows (Obama being one of them.)"
Although, the cover wasn't satirizing Obama, but rather those who spread the lies about him being a Muslim... - Jexie, on 07/17/2008, -3/+25Fox presents that stuff to us as legitimate news every day, they'd be raising their standards if they actually tried to make it look like satire.
- BedPost, on 07/17/2008, -0/+22Whoa whoa whoa. It's a terrorist fist JAB. As in, something you use to punch someone in the face, terrorist style.
- leonardutah, on 07/17/2008, -2/+23That image conveys what many americans quietly think about Obama in a very real way. No matter your opinions about the man, nobody saw that cartoon and just didn't get it. I think it was dead on satire that maybe could have used a little more finesse, but at least it puts silent racism out in the open.
- slingr, on 07/17/2008, -1/+21For the Canadians (Direct link to Comedy Network rather than the CTV one above):
http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/#clip66981
watch from 5:30 - Atsumori, on 07/17/2008, -9/+29*sigh* Yes it's offensive, but the New Yorker was obviously making fun of the news media that go crazy on ***** like that, and people like Fox just ate it up "nom nom nom nom."
- jsams81, on 06/26/2009, -1/+21I think Stewart was responding more to the media's response than to Obama's.
- zoxx, on 07/17/2008, -5/+22Dugg for video not available in Canada.
- CowWithBeef, on 07/17/2008, -0/+17Voters.
- Spudster, on 07/17/2008, -4/+21Right because the type of idiots who would believe this ***** are active readers of the New Yorker...
Give me a break. - abrownb1, on 07/17/2008, -3/+20Colbert's comments on the cover are quite entertaining as well.
http://www.indecision2008.com/video/index.jhtml?vi ... - inactive, on 07/17/2008, -4/+20It's amazing how the candidates love to be hurt this year, the Year of Umbrage. The camps are all passively aggressive.
The New Yorker and this "scandal" took that to the logical conclusion. When asked about it, Obama's response was consistent with someone having given him a melvin... he couldn't even talk about it or look the questioner in the eye.
I'm looking forward to Stewart loosening up the Obama camp a bit more. The only other joke I've seen him do on Obama, he had to tell the audience that they had permission to laugh. - digibruce, on 07/17/2008, -2/+17This cover is satire, not humor. It was NOT intended to be funny. It was not intended to be tasteful. It was intended to provoke a strong, serious, reaction and to force people to think about an unpleasant topic, in the noble tradition of Swift's "A Modest Proposal", which everyone who hasn't already been forced to read in school should check out:
http://art-bin.com/art/omodest.html
As satire, this cover succeeded spendidly. - Kyan, on 07/17/2008, -3/+18If the owners of The Daily Show are so concerned about clips showing up on YouTube, why don't they build a player that actually works?
Meanwhile, where is the YoutTube link? - Chode2235, on 07/17/2008, -2/+16As Jon said, all of this is a distraction from the real issues. What is the other hand doing right now? Thats what we need to be asking ourselves.
- DigitalPimptres, on 07/17/2008, -0/+13Context is everything.
- DiggityCarl, on 07/17/2008, -5/+18Funny as Hell, as well as accurate!!! Bravo!
- terwe, on 07/17/2008, -0/+12A bit ironic that he pokes fun at the media for their coverage of the media. Now we have the media making fun of the media for their coverage of the media. Now if I were part of the media it would be really confusing.
- Raiper, on 07/17/2008, -1/+12Aye, love John Daily.
- alex361, on 07/17/2008, -0/+11Mein Führer, I Can Walk!!!
- ptsuk, on 07/17/2008, -2/+13hehe best part of the clip.
yah i don't know what the ***** was up with people complaining as i found it to be satirical and pointedly exposing and making fun of the gaffs of the media (specifically fox news) as they're the ones to constantly suggest that obama is a muslim, that his wife is an angry militant and they run around doing "terrorist fist bumps" all over hell and back. - repmekevets, on 07/17/2008, -0/+11it's NOT offensive. people in this country just don't understand satire.
- K7Avenger, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10I can not believe how big of a deal that cover was. It was simple ***** satire. The real controversy should have been over Fox News for even saying the dumb ***** like "fist jab" and "Obama's baby momma".
- coyote1284, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10I'll start with your comment referancing the man.
