- blytheex, on 07/14/2009, -23/+36What are we thinking in this country to pass this cap and trade. DUMB thing to do!!
- mjazzguitar, on 07/14/2009, -21/+34It's all basically common sense. It seems like those in power are determined to destroy the country.
- edrodgers731, on 07/14/2009, -5/+17If you are willing to pay more, there is nothing stopping you. Just write them a bigger check.
Better yet, why don't you move away from fossil fuels yourself?
What, you are waiting for the government to force you? - Cputerace, on 07/14/2009, -4/+16"I'd rather have sound policy and a real effort to move off of fossil fuels than a couple hundred dollars any day of the week."
So how much are you donating this year to help us move off fossil fuels? - Amarissa, on 07/14/2009, -20/+32Sheeeeeeeeeee's Baaaaaaaaaack!
Media is having a fit!
Keep attacking, Barracuda! - TherealObadiah, on 07/14/2009, -6/+17Globull warming is a hoax. That you - personally - are willing to be taxed more suggests nothing more than you are a good liberal who is probably already on the government dole and looking for more.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -10/+21Wow. Some of the comments here proves that our education system is totally broken. So much ignorance gathered in one place.....mind boggling. And I can pretty much bet that a great many of ya can't balance a check book either, just like your 'dear leader' and his minions. "Oh, the messiah will do it for me!" No wonder we're in such a mess right now.
- mollydog12, on 07/14/2009, -2/+12that's because they're not taking your "couple a hundred dollars a week" !!
the policy won't look near as good when you have to pay for it. just like the health care you'll be eligible for at no cost as long as you're not making any money. the young can always afford their idealism, it's purchased with other peoples money.
you'll grow up. statistically most do.
btw. i might be willing to take on the cost if i believed it would do want it's stated intention is. but it won't. - sageres, on 07/14/2009, -17/+27Sarah Palin is right. She is smart and articulate and she got a bad rap all along. And screw cap and spend. It will drive our economy down to nothingness.
- mdhenshaw, on 07/14/2009, -5/+15lawyer822: Worldwide temperatures have been trending down for the past 10 years. While it was unseasonably warm in the Southern US in June parts of the North were unseasonably coolers. For the month of June the United States was at an average temperature.
The Arctic polar ice caps are within the average standard deviation. Ice extent in Antarctica is above average. You probably want to get better informed and quit watching WWF ads and speeches by Al Gore. They’re living in the 90’s. - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -3/+13The only problem, darkescaflowne, is that this bill isn't "sound policy".
It doesn't actually do anything to reduce emissions, ask one of the leading global warming proponents, James Hansen. He said the bill is a joke. Of course, he wants more restrictions, etc. but the fact is this bill is a piece of *****. - Shwaavay, on 07/14/2009, -3/+12The bad thing here is that what's great for your ideology is going to bankrupt us all.
- TherealObadiah, on 07/14/2009, -5/+14Perhaps you should stop watching so much CNN or other state-run media outlets. While you're at it, put down the Huffington Post.
- tinkerthinker, on 07/14/2009, -20/+28She is right. We can not afford this stupid bill...
- vanessadanaher, on 07/14/2009, -17/+25This matter should not be considered partisan, and should be understood that it affects everyone; because if Obama's cap and tax plan goes ahead (and it most probably will) then everyone will be taxed no matter what party they are affliated. And those disagreeing with the writer just because of who she is will soon see, unfortunately, that she is right. It is becoming increasingly clear that Obama is not the 'man of the middle-class' he campaigned he was.
The bottom line: It's not the messenger, it's the message. - atomheartmother, on 07/14/2009, -3/+11Wait... you're a college student and you think you're representative of "poor people?' You have no clue, son.
- LEL2007, on 07/14/2009, -13/+21GIVE-UM HELL SARAH !!!
The useful idiots are thinking "Cap & Tax" will only impact the "rich bastards", one day they'll wake up and find themselves slaves to the state. - dila813, on 07/14/2009, -17/+25BOOM SHAKALAKA!BOOM SHAKALAKA!BOOM SHAKALAKA! CUDA SCORES! Over the Heads of the defense to send the opposing team home to sulk.
- NJank, on 07/14/2009, -7/+15ok, your opinion on the matter is noted. just be aware that there many many people who would rather eat with that couple hundred dollars.
- jbmcb, on 07/14/2009, -6/+14@carport:
So your entire argument against the author's macroeconomic analysis is "aversion to progress" and "protect the status quo?"
That's all you can come up with? I've yet to hear an economist say that this plan makes any sense. When costs are fixed, if you are trying to get people to buy product B, you don't do it by increasing the cost to produce product A. You do it by decreasing the costs on product B.
If you don't want people burning fossil fuels, you either increase the costs of fossil fuels directly (political suicide) or make other forms of energy cheaper. - jblur, on 07/14/2009, -10/+18This "cap and trade" is nothing but another tax on American energy consumers, based on global warming, which is not proven as yet. Americans cannot afford another tax now and BHO is talking about also taking care of health care this year. He has too much on his plate, he is trying to "fix" this country when it is not broken, it is just in a deep recession. He is not the Messiah Democrats thought he was and cap and trade will cost Americans so much money for their energy needs, it will seriously impair the economy for years to come. this bill is rubbish and should be trashed. Al Gore is responsible directly and indirectly, for pulling off the hoax of all time on the world with his BS about global warming. The earth has its own weather cycles, we are always in one or another cycle. Finally, the more science looks into Gore's claims, the more they reject them as false. we simply cannot afford cap and trade, we do not need it, tell your congressmen and women to vote against it!
- glialisback, on 07/14/2009, -6/+14Your ignorance is astounding.
- TherealObadiah, on 07/14/2009, -8/+15Yeah, buried. The expected knee-jerk liberal reaction to truth.
- washingtonydc, on 07/14/2009, -3/+10you couldn't throw a "from downtown!" in there?
- DaMav, on 07/14/2009, -7/+14A Champion of American Values and Common Sense enters the Arena. About time we had some leadership emerge to stop this self destructive agenda! Go Sarah!
- Dorftrottel, on 07/14/2009, -2/+9At risk of defending Sarah Palin, it is much easier to compose an articulate piece of written material than to actually deliver it in front of an audience.
- ginaswo, on 07/14/2009, -9/+16Sarah is of course absolutely correct. The TOTUS cheerleaders commenting here fail to address the over 4 billion in the bill to compensate displaced workers whose jobs will be LOST if we pass this energy tax
TOTUS said he understood you cannot raise taxes in a recession during the primaries. has he somehow forgotten that or was it a lie to get the nomination? Yeah exactly. And the SF paper BURIED his comment that ELECTRICITY RATES WILL NECESSARILY SKYROCKET too, niiice.
This will kill American jobs and anyone who votes for it WILL lose their seat in 2010 or their next Senate race, guaranteed - Shwaavay, on 07/14/2009, -2/+9The cost of farming along with the cost of everything will be going up due to the increased energy costs. Also i imagine farming will feel an additional burden considering how fertilizers are mostly derived through the refining of oil.
- peacelvr, on 07/14/2009, -2/+8This UTILITY TAX will hit poor people the hardest. Getting taxed on things you need to have for survival is evil. Obama even said under this plan "electricity costs would necessarily skyrocket."
Anyone who thinks this has anything to do with hugging mother earth is a moron. This is all about the people who are invested in the "Green" technology that has failed everywhere it's been tried. Go ask Spain how many "Green" jobs they created and juxtapose it with how many regular jobs were lost. - SuperVepr308, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7Sarah is correct again. For you whiners in PA, VA, TN, KY, etc, don't forget that coal built and sustains huge parts of your state. I grew up in the coalfields of VA and King Coal's death would doom that part of the country. Feel good about that *****.
- Janinco, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7He won't need to balance it... the money will be worthless
- pierrelegrand, on 07/14/2009, -2/+8Global warming is just another Government hoax to gain power over us. This isn't a left right issue this is a free unfree issue.
- edrodgers731, on 07/14/2009, -3/+9You are right. If we make it more expensive for energy producers, and add overhead to the federal government, that money will simply be absorbed by the suppliers. They would never increase prices simply because it costs them more to produce. That's just crazy talk.
- atomheartmother, on 07/14/2009, -2/+8"you'll grow up. statistically most do."
True, most do. The rest are apparently here. - TheGreat0ne, on 07/14/2009, -11/+17If you don't like relying on gas companies, do something about it. no one owes you energy. no one owes you a car that can go 300 miles without using a drop of fossil fuels. i understand that you're lazy and that just having the government mandate it would be most convenient for you, but some of us don't agree with your idea of what progress is and don't like being robbed to support your agenda.
- sageres, on 07/14/2009, -7/+13aaa, darkie, you are working for your pocket money, otherwise using the money given to you by your parents. go back to your dorm and keep watching your anime. you're far better at it.
- mollydog12, on 07/14/2009, -2/+7i'ld bet on it.
- mollydog12, on 07/14/2009, -2/+7the messiah will balance my check book too ?! he's awesome !
- shouston, on 07/14/2009, -6/+11It's nice to see so many idealistic opinions from people dedicated to the idea of making this a better planet, but please try to understand that your idealized plans and those of our elected officials are about to drive us off a cliff. "Cap and Trade" will increase the cost of EVERYTHING. Literally. Every Thing. Everything takes energy to produce. The market will eventually make alternative energy sources affordable. People WANT clean energy. They WANT a clean environment. They'll pay for it, and in doing so will raise everyone's standard of living. That's how this country has always worked. "Cap and Trade" won't do that. It doesn't reward the people taking the risks on new technologies. It only punishes every man, woman, and child in this country with higher prices and rewards the politically connected with no-bid government contracts or subsidies.
- mollydog12, on 07/14/2009, -1/+6hasn't passed yet. stay tuned. wha tthe left hand does the right can correct.
- Janinco, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5At least she doesn't need a monitor to give a speech!
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -5/+10Lapping up the lunacy of the left. "Progressives" don't want REAL progress. They want you living in caves, gathering nuts and berries....naked!
- mollydog12, on 07/14/2009, -2/+7ahm. you know, i was going to say he was either going to grow up or become a liberal but i couldn't find the right cadence. it was sitting on the shelf waiting to be knocked over.
- hrh40, on 07/14/2009, -4/+9The factual backup comes from Obama himself who, if you read closely enough, she quoted as saying energy costs will "necessarily skyrocket." Also from Warren Buffet who she quoted as saying "poor people will be paying a lot more for energy."
If you knew anything about Alaska, you would also know that they derive 25% of their current energy needs from renewables, and Palin herself set a goal for that to reach 50% by 2025.
Notice she said, factually, that the U.S. is more environmentally conscious and responsible than China, Russia, or Saudi Arabia. Care to provide facts otherwise? - jimvenema, on 07/14/2009, -3/+7Amen Sarah...perfectly stated from someone who actually understands energy, not from the TOTUS and his team of Ivy League elitists. This bill would bankrupt the U.S. and throw the economy into a total meltdown. Keep it up...we need an article like this every day until this bill is put to bed for good.
- ARMYINTEL, on 07/14/2009, -1/+5Take off the O-O bama blinders and read the article again.
- rooforlife, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4Definitely, took the Household Cap-and-Trade Burden Calculator http://taxfoundation.org/capandtrade It would cost us over a thousand a year.
- JoeCollins, on 07/14/2009, -3/+7Hush, chattering classes . . just hush. Sarah is speaking directly to the American people now. Thank you, Sarah.
- kemojr, on 07/14/2009, -7/+11For all those who denigrate the intelligence and education of Sarah Palin, I pose this question. If all the educated and intelligent folks are in D.C. why is the country in such a mess? She wasn't there when the economy was going in the tank and they were twiddling their thumbs. You have to wonder about our national leaders. They were either too arrogant and lazy to keep their eye on the ball, or they were so blinded by their own ideology or they have become so corrupt that they only care about the money they can squeeze out of us or they want to be able to feel good about themselves by spending our hard earned tax dollars like a bunch of drunks on a binge. Take your pick. But it aint Sarahs fault. After all they are the smart ones, right!
- dila813, on 07/14/2009, -1/+5SHES NOT SMART, ITS JUST AN ACT!
Heard that one before.
That is sexism.
What is really behind your comment of she is only acting smart is the bias against a conservative woman:
1. She is a woman
2. She is Married
3. She is hot
4. Her Husband is Hot
5. She has Kids
6. She has many Kids
7. She had a Special Needs Child even though she new she could abort
8. Her Daughter Choose Life
9. She is a maverick, in every sense of the word
10.She gets things done
11.She isn't a Democrat
.... on and on ... remember to judge a person based on who and what they have done and not the smooth delivery from a teleprompter -
