Torture is bad. We have been torturing. We must stop, now. The end. - jemka, on 05/26/2009, -5/+45I would like to think I live in a country above the act of torturing another human being.
- MarkyNouj, on 05/26/2009, -3/+19thank you, I didn't feel like watching the whole thing.
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -0/+14Stop exploiting 9/11.
Waterboarding or other methods of torture have been proven to be useless in gaining information that could stop such attacks.
That you fall back to hysterically exploiting 9/11 - an event that could have been prevented had Bush's Administration paid attention to the intelligence that had been presented them - intelligence gained by traditional methods - shows that you are bankrupt of real arguments and have zero ethics. - inactive, on 05/26/2009, -1/+14You don't.
- SoulGrub, on 05/26/2009, -0/+12The fact is torture is inhumane. The fact is torture is against international law. The fact is torture is not shown to be useful at all.
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -2/+14These comments suck. Seriously people watch the video and maybe we can have an intelligent conversation.
- SoulGrub, on 05/26/2009, -1/+12Afraid of the big bad terrorists living in huts? You've basically given up morality because you're afraid of a few thousand shaggy hut dwellers.
- SoulGrub, on 05/26/2009, -1/+11You've confused pacifism with anti-torture, wars are sometimes necessary but torture is not. You've also confused anti-torture with "leftism". Non-leftist Chris Hitchens, Jesse Ventura, McCain for example are against torture.
- scottknick, on 05/26/2009, -0/+9Yeah, "reported" by people afraid to go to prison for torturing.
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -0/+9when are you signing up, Rambo?
Thought so. *****. - homercles337, on 05/26/2009, -1/+9WHy are you people so quick to dismiss discussion? Are we in the 1300s?
- bubbashine, on 05/26/2009, -3/+10Sounds like there was not enough fear-pumping and wild, baseless mishmash to enthrall the Fox crowd.
- EtherealSOC, on 05/26/2009, -1/+7Nine years ago I started doing research for a crime-fiction novel about a fictitious CIA-mind control program and how it was influencing students today. Not long into this research I realized that my fiction couldn't do justice to the perverse truth. The tests and abuses that have been carried out an unwitting public will blow your mind if you really think about it. Scared the hell out of me for a long, long time.
My book is called Lesser Minds, by the way, it's not fantastic, but if you like reading about conspiracy theories, murder and intrigue check it out. /shameless plug - inactive, on 05/26/2009, -3/+9If Obama is so against torture, why did he reserve the right to use it and why is he detaining people at Bagram airforce base in Afghanistan and not giving them the same rights as the Gitmo boys liberals would love.
- pkon, on 05/26/2009, -1/+7Pushing aside the entire moral aspect of it, the biggest difficulty with torture is the mere fact that the information you eventually manage to gather may be botched since it was conceived under stress. When a persons threshold is ultimately reached they will just about say anything to get the torturer to stop. This has been an on-going issue especially in Iraq when information that was eventually gathered held no truth or merit to what they were looking for. Just reading up on some of the torture techniques also reveals how devastating and ultimately how psychological and physical damage can be permanently done to an individual.
- homercles337, on 05/26/2009, -1/+7The right is incapable of discussion. Its us/them, evil/good, black/white. Torture is good for them because they ignore history and discussion. Torture has never worked, but if their heroes did it it MUST be ok. Sheeple are sheep that follow without question. This defines the right.
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -1/+7You cannot wage war against a proper noun.
There was no war declared by congress.
You are always wrong about this stuff, always hysterical. Please grow up or calm down or something. You're an embarrassment. - inactive, on 05/26/2009, -1/+6That's not morality, that is tribalism.
Get back to us when your values have moved beyond the stone age. - inactive, on 05/26/2009, -1/+5It's not a valid point, because it is not based on fact or rationality, or anything resembling logic. It's emotionalism, and it's stupid. Sorry.
- GumGuts, on 05/26/2009, -7/+11God I love Fora.tv
- treehugger87, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3Actually, poprocks, he hit the nail right on the head with you. You are a chickenhawk who sits behind his computer yelling threats and insults all day. Coward.
- 142TeeTH, on 05/27/2009, -1/+3@tehknotte, that's kind of ironic seeing as how you spend your time on the internet calling people you've never met obese and lazy.
- geesamba, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I would like to think that I live in a country where its people understand that torturing a suspected terrorist under the guise of "we don't want another 9/11" accelerates the creation of more terrorists.
See, once someone is tortured, they only have to tell one person (who tells another, who all tells another, etc). If those people knew the person being tortured, you've now created a permanent enemy who wants revenge. When you have lots of groups nearby that are advocating retribution for similar things, it's no surprise that many of those told about the torture will join those ranks. - Thoku, on 05/26/2009, -2/+4Obama is a digg user?
/s - EtherealSOC, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2No problem. This link on Amazon has the first six pages:
http://www.amazon.com/Lesser-Minds-Michael-Enslow- ... - jemka, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2@rif42: I'm with you on that. Additionally we should all use the metric system and speak one language.
- oriondr, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2God I hate the audio in this video. I have to continually adjust my volume.
- jemka, on 05/26/2009, -0/+210.04.06 (info tab from clip)
- treehugger87, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2Freedom isn't free. If we want to live in a free society then we will all have to accept the risk that comes from those who hate free societies. The alternative is that we live in a police state, lose our freedom and sacrifice our morality in order to feel "safe."
Too many good men have marched off to war and come back in a box in the name of my freedom from tyranny for me to accept your argument, Jay. You don't seem to understand what brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for have understood all too well: that there are worse things than death. - EtherealSOC, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Just click "search inside this book" beneath the cover page
- EtherealSOC, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Michael Enslow, I'm ready.
- laserdog, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Benjamin Franklin thinks yer dumb:
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - arplayer2k, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1They need to start adding a lot more videos to the site.
- kuzotz, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1can I get your book here in Japan?
- Punjabdasher, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Matthew E. Clairmont, I'm coming for you.
-Michael Enslow - inactive, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Hi, Matt!
I might check out your novel. - rif42, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Is this 10 April or is it 4 October? I wish people would use ISO 8601 for dates.
- bales2552, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1That's what she said.
- windowpane, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1When is this from?
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -1/+2You could post the first page of your book as a comment to entice me?
- skaryrose, on 05/26/2009, -1/+1Buried for terrible sound quality (ringing in microphone).
- poprocksandsoda, on 05/26/2009, -2/+2Yes he is.
http://digg.com/users/ObamaforAmerica - Sotorious, on 05/26/2009, -2/+1i still say we should torture for the right moments. Nothing will change my mind I am for torture!!!!!!!!
- therightscoop, on 05/27/2009, -1/+0Obama would be more tired of torture if we waterboarded him.
- Jack8274, on 05/26/2009, -4/+2Digg him down because he makes a valid point? I am all for burying the idiots but it is a valid point none the less no matter how appealing it makes torture look. It's understanding the alternatives to torture when someone can actually grab the situation were in, and figure a ***** way to get out of it, not deny it.
- tehknotte, on 05/27/2009, -3/+1@142teeth, imagine if everyone on the internet had lazy viewpoints like the people above? i am very glad these kinds of people are not in charge of running countries, but still someone has to show them that the world doesn't work like they think, whether its in real life or on the internet.
