- Fire4Effect, on 10/10/2007, -10/+76He's still bitter over the fact that lonelygirl15 was just acting.
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -13/+73Well then we agree on one thing. The YouTube debate format wasn't "more democratic than ever." Essentially the only people who can ask questions are those that are technologically savvy or have friends or relatives who are, and even then the questions are filtered through. It was not a debate, it was just a collection of soundbites. It was insulting. The majority of the people standing on that stage are simply not fit to be president (this statement could also describe the Republican candidates).
- siszam, on 10/10/2007, -18/+55Bush is probably too busy working on his Pinky and The Brain type plan to postpone the elections and take over the world. The Decider has no time for the activities of mere mortals.
- 0xbaadf00d, on 10/10/2007, -5/+39The youtube debate was just plain sad. Half the questions were literally a joke. The first tier candidates got all softball questions.
The only interesting part I found was watching the candidates scramble to come up with excuses for why they sent their kids to private schools. - yargthepirate, on 10/10/2007, -3/+281. 35 years or older.
2. Born in the United States.
3. Not a retard.
There, we've laid out all the steps necessary for improvement. - 0xbaadf00d, on 10/10/2007, -7/+26Sorry, but YouTube is not representative of "the people." Especially when the video questions are cherry picked to make top tier candidates look good.
- EdgarVerona, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23That's okay, he's also not big on... you know... thinking.
- KnightWhoSaysNi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Dugg for Pinky and The Brain reference.
- punkrock4life, on 10/10/2007, -6/+24"You've Gotta Catapult the Propaganda!"
- ScottMaximus1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18sarcasm is lost on this one ^
- Bossman1086, on 10/10/2007, -13/+29So I guess Bush doesn't care what the people care about, huh? That was kinda the point of the YouTube thing.
- AndrewJC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14You know, that was one of the biggest complaints I have about the 2000/2004 elections. When asked why people were voting for GWB, their number one answer was "I can relate to him, he's a regular guy and he doesn't seem too intellectual."
Excuse me?
When voting for the leader of the free world, wouldn't you WANT somebody who's intellectual? I'm sorry, but I would hope that when dealing with the complexities of foreign policy, you'd want the smartest person you could find. - Fordi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+121) JCM, we know you're a hard right neocon. You're about as quiet about that as I am about being a libertarian.
2) Hyperbole is, apparently, lost on you. - pseudononymist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Where does it say he/she must not be a retard? And you forgot one, have to have lived for at least 14 years in the States as well.
- manicallday, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Yes. It's a fact.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14Did anyone else love it when the candidates were asked "who took chartered jets to the debates tonight"?
I believe Gravel said he took a bus. I don't remember Kucinich saying anything, but I'm sure he took a hybrid. The top tier and much of the lower tier were very hesitant to raise their hands. Hypocrites - JDex, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11If I recall correctly, he's also not big on reading, thinking, chewing, state's rights, individual's freedoms, the Constitution, fair elections, telling the truth, interpreting data factually, science, oaths, allies, energy independence, qualified appointees, small business, medium business, large business... but he's big on conglomerates and everything that real conservatives loathe - unless God tells him it's bad - God doesn't tell him that anything in the 10 commandments is okay, so he's safe to ignore them too.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10But this is a story about Bush not watching a Democratic debate, not the election in general. Discussion really should for the most part be about the Democratic candidates and Bush. Why not save your Ron Paul comments for a more general discussion about the election or perhaps even one of the many Ron Paul stories that hits the front page daily?
- RuffRidr, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Ya, it would have been more interesting if they wouldn't have cherrypicked the questions to cater to the Democrat's platform.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13What's wrong with the town hall style debate that George Bush wanted and Al Gore didn't want anything to do with even after Bush compromised and agreed to do a traditional debate as well?
The Youtube thing was a gimmick, plain and simple. Just look at some of the videos, a couple of guys pretending (I think) to be unintelligable rednecks, a talking snowman crying about his kid. How dumb have we become as a society that PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES are featuring cartoon snowmen? - dcastle8183, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Its not like these questions being asked were challenging or at all interesting at all. Missing these debates are about the equivalent to missing the season finale of the OC. If I was Bush I wouldn't waste my time either. I'm sure he has more important things to do.
- smedrick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+76. Male
- damndj, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Because there has been so many YouTube debates, the president knows exactly what they are all about....
....real people asking real questions. Bush don't like no' real people questinins! - 0xbaadf00d, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8vargthepirate, Obama's answer was the worst, completely dodging the question. So his reason for paying thousands of dollars for private school was because it was closer? *****. So much for Obama being an honest, straight talker.
- EssPii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+75. White
- thefirstenemy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Gravel took a train to that debate. He took a public bus to his campaign announcement.
- synaesthesia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The debate would have been better if, instead of some CNN staffers cherry-picking the questions, the highest rated/ most voted videos were selected. Obviously thats a little risky and open to abuse, so some kind of screening would have to be present, but im sure theres a lot of serious questions that went unasked.
- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6While the YouTube Debates weren't perfect, and yes, it excluded some technological "have-not's", what's a better format then? The most similar type of debate is the Town Hall style debate, and that excludes far more people than the YouTube style. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of questions and answers of the recent debate. I hope they do more of these.
- FloppyLlamaDigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6No, but he can use the google to find out!
- krnldmp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Last time Bush tried a presidential debate John Kerry made him whimper.
- Albionshores, on 10/10/2007, -8/+14Let's face it, Bush just isn't big on debates period.
The YouTube thing wasn't perfect but it did approach the problem of getting people involved and made politicians more visible; more visible means more accountable. The US needs to adopt a UK variant on the weekly Prime Minister's Questions and Question Time. That way many of the candidates would always be in the public eye and it would be harder to get away with the things that they do.
Had the US such a similar system Bush's presidency would have been untenable a long time ago. - brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Please define what makes someone fit to be president.
Thank You. - Username222, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I am pretty sure Bush is more like Pinky than the Brain... Cheney would be the Brain...
If that appeared on TV, Man... I would watch that!
Also, I am pretty sure W. is much bigger on pop-up-books than debates of any sort...
http://static.flickr.com/41/87145085_4e2b40472e_o.jpg - yargthepirate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6As much as I dislike Hillary, I wouldn't send my kid to a public school while her father was the president. That's pretty much the answer she gave. I agree, she did try to come off like she felt guilty about it, but be realistic here. Obama's answer was along the lines of "they go to the school that's five minutes from my house".
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -2/+74. not the son of a wealthy elite with loads of invested interests.
- vanbacon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5JCM Go suck some more of Dick cheney's ballless scrotum why don't yah.
Neocons = FAIL - Username222, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He only scored a 25% on the written pilot's aptitude test for the Texas Air National Guard... I personally find it funnier that he was head cheerleader in high school than him possibly being stupid...
- brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Well to be fare some of them did have kids in public schools. Either way, none of them had kids in run down inner city schools.
- Moskie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It was pretty disgusting... the question was something like "Who took a private jet today to get to the debate?"
and half of them responded with the excuse, "No... I took one *yesterday*"
pretty sad. - Moskie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I don't get why people say this. I mean, ***** or not, one of these candidates is going to become president. It's still important to see what ***** they say, and how they say it.
- saturnx8, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5unless I'm wrong or something, what exactly does Bush need to debate?
1. He is in control of our government,
2.he is the president of the US,
3.He can't run again unless he claims us a dictatorship (according to most people on digg that is the general consensus that he is a dictator already) then it doesn't matter because he is already in there
4. if condition 3 is met via dictatorship anyone who wants to debate with him will wind up like all the Russian candidates (executed by the russian presidentail regime)
So again whats the importance of debating George Bush on youTube or google or anywhere for that matter/ - superpositioned, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7I know a few people who support Guilini, but they spam Ron Paul comments all over just to make him look bad. I have never seen professor0fruit on any pro-paul articles.
- 0xbaadf00d, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with them sending their kids to private schools. But be honest about it. They sent them there because they can afford it and because typically, it is a better education. Biden gave the only answer that was somewhat acceptable: He sent them to Catholic school because they are Catholic. Obama and Hillary gave pathetic answers, like they felt some guilt about it, and they only did it because "blah blah blah."
- spudhead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I just wish he pay attention to *something*. I'd be happy if he'd pick even one thing.
- spoiled1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Talk about YouTube debates, he is not big on any kind of debates ... i'm sure he watches comic animal videos on YouTube all the time
- greanleaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well, this was the debate for nomination of the Democratic candidate. It would make sense that the questions that were asked/picked appeal to Democratic voters. I fully expect the Republican YouTube debate to be the same thing, except with questions that Republican voters care about.
- siszam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hey jcm, I'm a woman not a "guy" and I'm not hard left. You're incredibly sexist and dense. I'm a Christian and a Socialist. That would put me straight on center. If you were a true religious rightie you would care more about living a Godly life and fighting against an evil murderer like Bush. And who besides you brought Ron Paul into it. Take your meds.
- Hipple, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8"The majority of the people standing on that stage are simply not fit to be president"
That's sort of the point, right? The whole idea behind the debate is to reveal who's really fit to run for office. It shouldn't come as a shock that less than half the candidates aren't up for the job.
And I'm not sure I understand how the debate was "insulting". At the very least, real people asked real questions. Can you elaborate on how it was insulting? - weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -0/+30xbaadf00d - I disagree with you completely. I traveled up to an hour to and from school before I got my license (time was spent on a school bus), and to say that location isn't a factor is ignorant. If there were a private school closer to home, you can rest assured I would have gone there, and I'm nowhere near "wealthy." That being said, of course he can afford it. They can all afford it. He even said that he could afford things like that when answering the minimum wage question. I just don't understand your criticism at all, and on one of the least important "issues" no less. Who cares if his kids went to private school??
- lukejduncan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Is this source credible? I'm not familiar with the site and it'd be nice if it linked to a transcript of what Tony Snow said or to a broadly published newspaper of some sort
