It is good to see people on the left recognizing that he is not a unitary executive and respects checks and balances, he isn't going to go gutting entitlement programs or dissolve the entire federal government his first week in office, and that he wants to give more power (back) to the states and local governments.
I don't know about you, but reducing the size and scope of the federal government in regards to the war machine and the income tax is a huge victory in and of itself. Bring the troops home, secure our infrastructure, reform our intelligence, and prepare for natural disasters which are 100x+ more powerful than nuclear terrorist attacks. I imagine that would not be accomplished overnight, but if it did occur I imagine he would be satisfied enough to work with Dems on domestic issues.
Cut defense spending and come home, stop supporting brutal and oppressive regimes, and then work with the (most likely) Democratic congress on entitlements. When we have more money that we aren't using to secure mansions and palaces for Cheney and his contractor buddies or giving to the house of Saud to do righteous things like not let school girls escape from their burning school because they weren't covered.
If we leave and things get rough in the middle east after we leave? So what? Who cares? The caliphate idea is nonsense. I see what happened this week in Palestine, see the Iraq civil war, and I am supposed to believe that all of these factions will suddenly unite and get along? If they are killing each other they aren't killing us, they will be forced to deal with their own problems. A large number of people in countries like Iran are as fed up with the rhetoric as everyone else. They are modern, they love the Internet too. We don't need to nuke them. Let them rise up and handle it. If we can set a good example we can use the Internet and the power of communication and information to spread dignity.
