- SmokedL, on 10/12/2007, -12/+168'Novak said, "somebody mentioned the Jon Stewart program, I’ve never seen that in my life and I will go to my grave never having seen it.” Asked why, Novak said, "I don’t see any reason for it. It’s a comedian, self-righteous comedian taking on airs of grandeur and I really don’t need that.” '
Sight unseen he knows enough about it to condemn, ridicule, and dismiss it. Excellent example of irrational bias ruling the thought processes of a fool. Only a fool believes he does not need to even examine a thing before judging it. - Sunwalker, on 10/12/2007, -6/+112I can see and hear why Novak would dislike people who are "self-righteous" and "taking on airs of grandeur."
He displays both characteristics quite plainly. - bobcatgrad, on 10/12/2007, -6/+83Poor Novak. It must suck to become irrelevent.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+74"And I certainly, somebody mentioned the Jon Stewart program, I’ve never seen that in my life and I will go to my grave never having seen it."
Nothing like bashing something YOU'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN! ***** this guy... - KingPhallus, on 10/12/2007, -12/+81Yeah, well he's a busy man. He has a lot of CIA agents whose cover needs to blown.
- RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -6/+74Ha! Novak is still probably pissed that Jon, being the "self-righteous comedian" that he is, OWNED the ***** on Crossfire and helped get that show cancelled.
Eat it, Novak! - talboito, on 10/12/2007, -7/+75The biggest question here:
Will Stephen Colbert successfully force Stewart to apologize?
Geraldo was the appetizer. Novak is an explosive force, the main course to end all courses. - Dradis, on 10/12/2007, -8/+70"I don’t — I don’t see any reason for it [political satire/ the Daily Show]."
Yes.. Take it from a 75 year old who works for Fox News and, "watches a lot of C-SPAN" to tell everyone else what is and isn't funny. Oh, and remember: Political Satire has NO place in a democratic society. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63You could cut the irony with a knife. Heck, you could cut it with one side of a pair of crayola safety-scissors.

And I don't have to see you to know that you're a dumbass.
Are you going to tell me that instead of taking five minutes to watch the show, or go online and watch a clip, he goes into a search engine and SEARCHES for transcripts of a show he's NEVER SEEN just so he can come to the "justified" conclusion that he doesn't like the show? Not only do transcripts not reflect how a person is actually saying what they're saying, they don't do most TV shows justice. That's why they're on TV to begin with. You're an f'ing moron dude. Don't try to "nice try" me when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
"Nice try, Play again...Bitch" - QuorumCall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Wow, Jon Stewart got slammed!!!! I wonder if he will be able to continue doing his show knowing that Robert Novak doesn't watch it.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Indeed. Pick up any history book and you will never see any polictical satire/cartoons/etc used to show the mood of the day. I fear the day when history is told by douchbags like Novak. He should be put in jail for his complicity in the Plame case, and forced to watch Comedy Central all day.
- yidali, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Go to his grave eh? That won't be too long.
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -16/+46Just like Geraldo, Novak is a "self-riteous" blowhard. Novak has never supplied this world with anything worthwhile. he could disappear and nobody would really care (minus the few friends and family he might have). who cares what he thinks about Jon Stewart.
- yidali, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28@Ospir
For the uninformed :)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PWqneVIA3zs - nightsweat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Stewart is a stake through the heart of Novakula. No one takes him seriously anymore. And as a man who, I'm convinced, knowingly outed an undercover CIA agent, no one should take his opinions seriously anymore.
The worst damage done to bloviating windbags is not done by othe windbags, but by the Mark Twains, Will Rogers, Johnny Carsons, and Jon Stewarts of the world. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26for someone claims to never have watched the show, he sure has some opinions about it.
- zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23DS already dropped their ads for Metamucil and Depends about a year ago, so Novak's boycott probably won't cost the show that much.
- SmokedL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"Bob Novak is a registered Democrat and a political analyst for over 50 years, but don't let that stop you from roasting him for commiting blasphemy of your icon."
You may find this hard to belive, but not everyone bases all their opinions on partisanship.
Go figure. - willistg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Oh man, he really got Stewart, I bet the daily show will be taken off the air tonight because of this.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -11/+28"Novak has never supplied this world with anything worthwhile. he could disappear and nobody would really care (minus the few friends and family he might have). who cares what he thinks about Jon Stewart."
case in point: I didn't even know who Novak was until seeing this digg. - diggity_dank, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21You are an idiot.
At the very LEAST he has made a lot of young people more politically aware. Of course morons like you think that makes him liberal. His satire has been, for as long as I've been watching his show, completely spot on and has reported more accurately about the Iraq quagmire than any of the MSM... by far. The commentary, although funny, is very valid social commentary on our times. He is the only person on TV with the balls to call truth to power in this age and I thank God that he is around because he has kept me sane while the whole country was going completely nuts.
And you want an example of what he has done? He shut down Crossfire. What have you done? - noll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Right... http://mediamatters.org/items/200605250003
- op12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Can you really blame Novak for trying to reduce what he perceives to be his competition? He wants to stand out in the sea of self-righteousness.
- tdowling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16If he had read the transcripts, he would have said "I've never seen that in my life, and I will go to my grave never having seen it - although of course I have read the transcripts."
- evanwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15That was an amazing episode of Crossfire (on CNN). Jon was a special guest and, instead of advocating for one party or the other, he broke the show's format. He said the show's petty sniping was not only insulting to the American public but dangerous misdirection from important issues and a waste of precious air time. He called on them to stop. He shamed them right to their faces. Google on Crossfire and Jon Stewart for more, maybe even video of Jon's speech and the questions/attack he took right after.
- tombomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Wow, I could actually hear air being wasted when he said that comment....
- withears, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I think Novak meant to say "I will go to my prison cell never having seen it."
- zediker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12And Novak's point was what? Jon is a fricken comedian, a satire one at that. Its his flippin job to make fun of the status quo. The only reason it makes him seem grandiose is because his satire is usually right on the mark.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Novak is a traitor, and knows he is a traitor.
- UberNick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Is it just me or does this guy look about 10 years older than he did a few months ago?
- thunderhammer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I think EComni's description of Novak needs some clarification:
Robert Novak is a Pundit. In America we have four or five 24-hour news networks. This is how most Americans get their news. These news networks invite "experts" on - like Mr Novak - to tell us what to think. They tend to be white, old, and to have the appearance of being slightly over-inflated, like a balloon. Often times they will invite two experts on opposite sides of a point so that it appears that it is a difficult decision, even when the way forward should be totally obvious. For example, is evolution really science? The experts on Fox News can't seem to agree, so how is a simple citizen like myself to know? All you need to know is that Robert Novak is just such a person, and he speaks in such a way that he makes utter idiocy sounds completely reasonable and logical. - EComni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@Guspaz
Bob Novak is a conservative pundit and syndicated columnist. He was one of the guys on the CNN political left vs right commentary show "Crossfire" before it got cancelled. Coincidentally, it was cancelled not very long after Jon Stewart appeared on the show saying how much it sucked and that its sensationalist approach to debate hurts news and America. Novak wasn't in that episode at the time. Before his appearance on "Crossfire", The Daily Show repeatedly lampooned Novak's comments made on Crossfire and in other outlets, with Stewart branding Novak a "Douchebag... For Liberty."
Novak is the journalist who leaked Valerie Plame's identity to the public, which caused a good amount of commotion in Washington, D.C. over whether a crime was committed. - NoelEiffe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11To quote Grumpy (from the Seven Dwarves): "I don't know what it is, but I'm a'gin it!"
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17Klisk, the sad truth (and the reason you're buried) is that people like Novak create the gimmicks. The politicos create the material. Stewart's show is just a "What's going on in the government and the world lately" TV show. The fact that it's so often regrettably humorous is completely coincidental.
- SmokedL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@boonesfarm
First I quote you saying:
"Bob Novak is a registered Democrat and a political analyst for over 50 years, but don't let that stop you from roasting him for commiting blasphemy of your icon."
To which you reply:
"Was I giving off a partisan vibe?"
You're joking! Right? - xenuxenuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That would explain why they had to put him on suicide watch.
- lagrange, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15And to know that when his master leaves office, hes going to end up in prison like the traitor that he is, making new friends by tossing salads.
- cm32438, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8CharlesSaint007 said (above): "Not only do transcripts not reflect how a person is actually saying what they're saying, they don't do most TV shows justice. That's why they're on TV to begin with."
Seems relevant here, so I present the youTube of the Crossfire Episode with Stewart:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=fSDUQoM8G1k - JBek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I completely agree. The thing that probably drives the supporters of this administration crazy is that they are called to account for the things that they say. Politics is, unfortunately, too often about playing with words instead of actually solving problems. When that is the game you are playing you have to make sure that you don't contradict yourself in the media because there are people watching like Jon Stewart. Smart people who apply logic and reason to the words that you are using. The issue comes when the words don't fit the logic.
- clevershark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Novak's a GOP-arse-kissing douchebag. End of story. He should publicly apologize for having published Ms. Plame's employment details in a newspaper story -- period. Until he does so he is a contemptible little sh*t who does not deserve to be called a journalist, not having had the judgement necessary for that title.
- LtJimDangle2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I hope you will reply and say the same for o'reilly, hannity, john gibson, et al.
- Bhima, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Probably not... I can just hear a great segment on that very topic...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10For someone who's never seen the show, he sure thinks he knows a hell of alot about the show.
- dagnew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8
As opposed to the 'real news' that 'informed' us of Sadaam's connection to AlQaida, his WMDs, how Iraqis would welcome our troops, how Iraqi oil would pay for reconstruction, etc... How does one know when they're watching 'real news'? When it's brought to you by Disney, I guess. - Balthazar3n, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10It's not all that believable that he doesn't watch the Daily Show, at least sometimes. Politics are his beat, and political guests have said some fairly interesting stuff on the show. It's easy to see why he might not admit to watching the Daily Show, and Novak has shown that he is capable of doing one thing and saying another. Just because it was on in front of him while he was concious, doesn't really mean that he 'watched' it does it. There are hairs just waiting to be split.
It's also kind of funny that someone that has been as self-righious as Mr. Novak and done something as cyincial as leak a CIA agent should fault a comedian for doing the same. John Stewart has never asked Mr. Novak or anyone else to take what he says seriously. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Stewart should invite him on the show.
I could just see Stewart tearing this clip to pieces; I think he's a class act though, I don't think he'll even address it. Either way, I bet Stewart's show has cut through the ***** more than Novak ever will. - samk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He's commenting on Jon Stewart, who he's seen on Crossfire. The "self-righteous comedian taking on airs of grandeur" comment is based on Stewart's tirade on Crossfire which got the program canceled.
And I'm sure Novak knows Stewart has called him a douchebag. - Web_Weasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I guess that's why CNN International carries it.
It's scary when a comedy show tells more truth then your precious Fox "News" isn't it? -
