- Vizeris, on 10/20/2009, -30/+558Essentially, there's only three angles to work out with these 30 esteemed senators.
1.) They didn't understand what they were reading, ie: they thought they were voting to force changes in the nation's business policies rather than voting on rules for how the government appropriates its money. These senators are unqualified to even serve in congress, where being able to read the legislation you're voting on should be at the top of the list for bare minimum ***** you can do.
2.) These senators protecting Halliburton, a company which republicans have had an undeniable role in brokering large government contracts through the legislation they passed and the executives they put in office. Not to mention that KBR is a mercenary brokerage firm, which is tied to our war-efforts and republicans love being pro-military (even though mercenaries are always more expensive and less loyal than GIs). Halliburton/KBR will be one of the few government contractors to face scrutiny under the Franken amendment, and come gang-rape or white slavery, these people will vote to protect the corporation. (I'm looking at Sessions for this one)
3.) Notice the strong white male trend you see on that list? I doubt many of these senators have ever experienced rape, either personally or by knowing a victim. Without that powerful reality check, they can make something as clear-cut and politically benign as an anti-rape amendment into a partisan bill. Quite sad that McCain voted against, if I has such a hot daughter I sure as hell would want the company she works for to disclose the prevalence of rape within the corporation and show the paper-trail for the public litigation that was undertaken to stop it. - inactive, on 10/20/2009, -32/+427John McCain, it figures.
- inactive, on 10/20/2009, -16/+387In case the GOP Senators DIDN'T know they were on the wrong side of the issue, EVERY Female GOP rep voted FOR Franken's amendment. Because they know that without women voters on their side, they are toast. So are the male reps, they just don't know it yet.
Don't think the Democratic opposition is going to run ads 24/7 shouting this from the rooftops?! Think again, GOP. - Boogalou007, on 10/20/2009, -37/+348Patriots all.
They're promoting the ideals of the Republican party and standing up for what the bible teaches. Women = property.
Any woman that chooses to leave the kitchen/bedroom deserves what she gets.
/S - idbjoshm, on 10/20/2009, -7/+254"Do not associate my name with anything you do. You are extremists, and you've hurt the Republican party much more than the Democrats have." - Barry Goldwater when addressing the Right Wing in the latter days of his life.
We could really use you now Barry. - ultranovae, on 10/20/2009, -21/+266Patriotism aside: I'm not American, but I'm still deeply outraged by this, and respect Al Franken tremendously for his efforts.
- RansomHoldiay, on 10/20/2009, -14/+177you forgot to include 4.) They honestly and truly support rape.
- gsadamb, on 10/20/2009, -19/+176Not gonna even bother pointing out semantics here. After "Death Panels," it's become clear that the GOP has no boundaries, so ***** it, might as well fight fire with fire sometimes.
Republicans for Rape 2010! - genjiworks, on 10/20/2009, -7/+147I find it interesting that he supports rape... He doesn't support torture because of his time as a POW... maybe if he had gotten assaulted by butt-pirates he would be against it. Who knows... but a big surprise.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/20/2009, -7/+141It figures because McCain has had a very obvious chip on his shoulder since he lost. That's not to even mention some of the deplorable and underhanded campaign tactics he employed in he presidential bid.
Frankly, I didn't have a problem with McCain before the election, but the man lost all credibility with me and many others as he publicly sold his soul in effort to win the White House. The man (and not a particularly young one) nearly put Sarah Palin second in line for the presidency should he kick the bucket. Talk about irresponsibly unqualified.
More generally speaking, McCain has been voting and speaking strongly against Obama. He used to be more moderate, but he's become vehemently partisan. It's sad and actually very disappointing. I think this is all illustrated pretty well by the fact that he of all people, a man who was imprisoned and tortured in a war, would vote against a bill aimed at protecting rape victims overseas.
So, yeah, perhaps the pre-campaign McCain was a "swell guy", but he's been replaced by a bitter, partisan shell of a man who once was, bent on vengeance against a president he sees as having stolen his moment.
Typically, it's just pathetic, but in certain instances like this it's just downright disgusting. - cuoops, on 10/20/2009, -2/+135Here it is if anyone is wondering:
Sec. 8104. (a) None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used for any existing or new Federal contract if the contractor or a subcontractor at any tier requires that an employee or independent contractor, as a condition of employment, sign a contract that mandates that the employee or independent contractor performing work under the contract or subcontract resolve through arbitration any claim under title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or any tort related to or arising out of sexual assault or harassment, including assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, or negligent hiring, supervision, or retention. - CrimsonBlur, on 10/20/2009, -5/+124Unnecessary proposal? Have you even been following this story at all? Go watch, hell, even the most recent video of Franken annihilating every point the lawyer for the opposition makes about why their process works.
This proposal should not be necessary, but because the greedy ***** running the show are so damn diabolical it's come to this. Seriously, read up on it, it's really ***** bad.
Considering the wording of your post it's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about. Faithful Conservative to the bone, exactly what they need you to be so you can't see through their *****. - Kaegro, on 10/20/2009, -4/+108I'm just glad that rape enthusiast isn't president of the USA.
- h0v3rb1k3s, on 10/20/2009, -19/+121Rape-ublicans!
- nedzeve, on 10/20/2009, -6/+100There are 3 female Republican Senators. None of them voted against it.
- rpieszak, on 10/20/2009, -72/+166I'm a liberal and a registered Democrat, but touting something like Republicans are in favor of rape (and building a cute little website) is the type of sensationalism that we accuse the Republicans and Fox News of all the time. I understand what you're driving at, and I agree that their votes are obviously tainted (likely by money), but going about it this way makes us no better. There are better ways of handling things.
- RansomHoldiay, on 10/20/2009, -8/+100unfortunately we have a constitution which makes it more difficult (but obviously not impossible) for them to set up their ideal system of government: a theocratic republic like Iran but with their view of Christianity.
if Christ came back they would crucify him again. Christ (if he existed) was at least a reformer and at most a revolutionary. far from a conservative. - inactive, on 10/20/2009, -3/+94Only a "maverick" can defend rape.
- Ajajadude, on 10/20/2009, -23/+112Hmmm, most of them are old, white guys.
- Purplekat, on 10/20/2009, -1/+88My reigning theory is that they've just gotten into the habit of opposing everything that democrats do.
I think Senator Franken (and others with balls of similar size) should take advantage of their new Pavlovian powers. Can we maybe include anti-cannibalism amendments in defense spending bills? - ZenFountain, on 10/20/2009, -2/+82Strong white male trend is too generous, they are ALL white males...
- JMAmado, on 10/20/2009, -3/+76Thank you, this needs to be repeated. There was no valid reason for opposing this amendment. There was no rider, no little line at the end "Oh and $500 Million for a bridge in my home state", nothing like that.
Voting against this amendment is sending the *clear* message that you think that doing business with companies that force employees to sign away basic rights is OK and they should be able to hide those types of offenses (those listed under title VII of the Civil rights act and sexual assault, battery, false imprisonment, etc). And by extension are condoning that type of behavior.
Question is, how many of those same guys that voted no on this perfectly constitutional amendment, didn't bat an eye when voting yea on the de-fund acorn bill:
http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/ ... - sexyloser, on 10/20/2009, -15/+87Trolling the trolls. I like it.
- Angostura, on 10/20/2009, -1/+72Yes, I suspect that quite a few people are feeling rage with respect to this issue. But you seem to imply that this is a *bad* thing.
Nice attempt to divert from the issue with a bit of Obama-bashing though, well done. - InitialDMP5, on 10/20/2009, -11/+82On that site they use the excuse that its going to cost American taxpayers through the long process of the Justice System. If it means that some ***** gets sentenced for raping someone, then tax me away.
- noupsell, on 10/20/2009, -23/+93from the site:
KBR contractors drugged and gang-raped a co-worker, Jamie Leigh Jones, in Iraq, anally and vaginally, suffering genital mutilation. She woke up bleeding from both orifices. After she was examined by a doctor, the evidence was handed back to KBR, where the rape-kit, photos, and notes disappeared. She was then locked in a shipping container, where eventually a guard gave her a cell phone to call for help. Agents were called at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, where they took Jamie out of KBR custody. The rape-kit was later recovered, but the photos and notes were gone, essentially letting the rapists go free.
No rapes were ever heard of at KBR because they use mandatory arbitration for rapes and assault, which include a non-disclosure agreements. Rapists are never brought to justice at this federal contractor because the corporation actively covers up rape, "protects their employees and the work environment," and makes evidence disappear to keep a good image.
30 Republicans voted against an anti-rape amendment for federal military & civilian contractors. Any government contractor who uses mandatory arbitration for rape and sexual assaults will not receive any more federal funding. In other words, any contractor who covers up rape and sexual assault by using a behind-the-doors non-disclosure agreement with the victim will not receive any more of your tax dollars.
Republicans enjoy military contractors(like KBR) that keep their rapes from being public knowledge. If a person was raped at KBR or another contractor, and accepted arbitration, the rape victim can then be sued for telling people she was raped at said company, therefore breaking the non-disclosure agreement that comes with arbitration. Arbitration protects rapists and the companies that employ them, and Republicans are simply looking out for the free market's best interests.

Better ways like the way Obama and the Democrats are handling the healthcare bill?
So far all they've managed to do is let the Rapeublicans stall and water down everything they've proposed.
You've got Obama touting and praising the lone Rapeublican vote he got in the senate from Snowe as a great achievement.
I'm sorry but that's *****. You can't let these ***** get away with stalling and ***** their way back into power because the Democrats including Obama are so stupidly coward that they'll sacrifice any real reform in hopes of getting reelected next go around. - Kaegro, on 10/20/2009, -3/+69As a white male I feel embarrassed to be categorized with these monsters.
- drrice, on 10/20/2009, -2/+67Bashing him? He voted to defend companies who are grossly negligent on their employees being RAPED, threatened, and imprisoned under armed guard inside a storage container on foreign soil.
- RansomHoldiay, on 10/20/2009, -7/+72well yeah. they are republicans. it's implied.
- RansomHoldiay, on 10/20/2009, -4/+68okay let me try. *trying* eh ***** it. they are dicks that voted for rape.
- inactive, on 10/20/2009, -3/+64BOTH my senators of Georgia are pro-rape it seems.
I wrote this to them this morning:
I write every so often to you when I feel you have done your best to vote against what the public would like, and this is yet another time I feel I must remind you that I feel you have failed in your position, your people, and your morals.
I am speaking of 2009 Defense Appropriations bill and specifically your vote against it. In doing so you have shown Georgia that you are against the right for people to speak out against rape and pursue justice once it has occurred. I cannot find words to let you know just how disgusted I am with your decision in this matter, and I can honestly say at this point I expect you to vote against any democratic policy on party grounds alone, content be damned. Far too many times in the past I have watched you vote, not on the merit of a bill, but vote party favor, and this sir is not your job. The two party system is a complete failure as it stands now with both side warring against each other while innocent citizens that you are supposed to try and protect suffer and die. I am not sure how you can come to work each day and stab your own in the back, much less sleep at night.
I pray that your tenure in the senate is short and not remembered sweetly for Georgia.
If you find this e-mail offensive, good, I find your party line vote with disregard to it's content offensive, so we are even. But more so I challenge you to change and vote as the people and even your God would want. Last I checked Jesus was not down with rape.
Bible belt and all, I hope the jeebus will sting more than not. - dman24752, on 10/20/2009, -1/+59The amendment did not mention Haliburton at all. Haliburton's just the reason it got passed.
- VictoriaCross, on 10/20/2009, -11/+68 They're not patriots but 'Hatriots'.
- omoshiroi, on 10/20/2009, -5/+61Pro-tip: If you are going to insult someone else's intelligence, please spell words like "aisle" correctly.
- thenorwegian, on 10/20/2009, -3/+59You are ignorant newchap. You are the typical uninformed drone that watches Fox News and gets off on Glenn Beck's tirades. Saying he's a failed comedian is proof. What the ***** does that have anything to do with this case? There are videos that prove this man's intelligence and drive to fix the issue at hand. I'm seriously disgusted that there are human beings like you that just brush this off. You do realize that a woman was gang raped (raped meaning forced to have sex AGAINST her own will forcefully) and kept hostage in a storage container? I'd like to see how you or any of these other right wing nuts would deal with that. Seriously. I hope you get ***** and held hostage in a storage container. And then die. Because this country needs to be rid of people like you.
- MakanGuru, on 10/20/2009, -6/+59It's all about money
- BlueDjinn, on 10/20/2009, -3/+54Actually, there's 4 female Republican Senators, but you're correct that all 4 voted for the amendment:
--Olympia Snowe (Maine)
--Susan Collins (Maine)
--Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
--Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas)
Thankfully, so did 6 of their male Republican counterparts, which means that "only" 75% of the GOP Senators came out in support of gang rape. - dman24752, on 10/20/2009, -3/+54Hey Hey Hey, this is still the same party that basically gave Bush a second term.
- smacksaw, on 10/20/2009, -3/+49You have to wonder if by voting against this bill, it might retroactively protect a certain talk-show host who was working as an undercover KBR agent back in 1992 when he met a girl...
- DagonwebNL, on 10/20/2009, -8/+531. I am european looking at the dismantling of the US as a haven of common sense with puzzlement.
2. I can see fox and the crazy circus spin this as another attack below the belt. Well sort of it is but not as they see it.
3. W T F ?
4. How much effort can a party take to make itself unelectable and why? - ObamaYouth, on 10/20/2009, -22/+66I was about to say that they should be raped since they don't find raping wrong.
but those pictures changed my mind. no rapist deserves such punishment - SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/20/2009, -15/+58It's called satire. It's not really supposed to present a rational and reasonable argument. It's supposed to drive home the offensive, emotional heart of the issue. The point is to exaggerate to the point of comedy, and in doing so highlight the injustices being served.
I think this website, if you actually read it, does a good job of explaining the very real motives of these representatives (putting corporate interests above those of the individual) while outline the horrible reality of what they're willing to do in the execution of such motives (defend rapists and companies that would cover up rape).
This isn't sensationalism. The whole thing is very tongue-in-cheek and the actions and rational of the senators presented are very real. The Donate page even breaks character to come right out and explain why the sites satirical protest is so important.
Saying this is anything like the works of Fox News doesn't seem like a particularly good comparison. Between the the ***** disaster that was "The 1/2-Hour News Hour" and Stephen Colbert's ratings among conservatives (who literally do not believe he is joking), I think it's safe to say that many on the right simply do not understand what satire even is let alone find the wit and humor to pull it off themselves.
*****, I only WISH Fox News were satire. It would be hilarious! - LaughingMan11, on 10/20/2009, -2/+44@rchargel
The man you describe who is bowing to pressure from his party to fall in line doesn't sound like the straight-talking maverick McCain of legend. You're describing a stool pigeon.
He may have very little choice, but he still had one : his vote. He clearly voted based not on the welfare of women. - Kaegro, on 10/20/2009, -4/+46I was going to suggest that Barackalypse forgot the /s, but with a tag like Barackalypse , make you think if he's just a lonely troll.
- gavintlgold, on 10/20/2009, -2/+43@brad3378: Ah, but where is the proof that he WAS NOT?
- inactive, on 10/20/2009, -3/+43I wouldn't be surprised if you could find one or two who look at rape and think it's the woman's fault for not carrying around a curtain to hide behind or for being outside the kitchen, but I doubt the majority think that. I'd like to think that they had some legitimate complaints about the bill that I haven't heard of (IE this bill isn't strict enough or is seriously underfunded), but chances are they're just ignorant or truly think having a corporation judge criminals within it's own internal affairs system is a good idea (which is pretty much the same as the former, actually).
- inactive, on 10/20/2009, -0/+39As a HUMAN I feel embarrassed to be categorized with these terrorists.
