- niradg, on 04/21/2009, -2/+116with Democrats like Jane Harman, who needs Republicans?
- scottknick, on 04/21/2009, -4/+95As the Buddha said, "Karma is a bitch, ain't it?"
- onyxcoltrane, on 04/22/2009, -2/+64FTA: So if I understand this correctly -- and I'm pretty sure I do -- when the U.S. Government eavesdropped for years on American citizens with no warrants and in violation of the law, that was "both legal and necessary" as well as "essential to U.S. national security," and it was the "despicable" whistle-blowers (such as Thomas Tamm) who disclosed that crime and the newspapers which reported it who should have been criminally investigated, but not the lawbreaking government officials. But when the U.S. Government legally and with warrants eavesdrops on Jane Harman, that is an outrageous invasion of privacy and a violent assault on her rights as an American citizen, and full-scale investigations must be commenced immediately to get to the bottom of this abuse of power. Behold Jane Harman's overnight transformation from Very Serious Champion of the Lawless Surveillance State to shrill civil liberties extremist.
- kemp34, on 04/22/2009, -0/+55She advocated WARRANTLESS wiretapping and now she gets up-in-arms over being tapped under warrant?
I don't normally use this language, but what a despicable bitch! - inactive, on 04/21/2009, -11/+62THEY WERE ONLY SUPPOSED TO SPY ON LEFTIES AND "MY" ENEMIES...damnit
- freedomjoe, on 04/21/2009, -3/+46Will she and Joe Lie be hooking up some time soon to form their own party? What she is alleged to have done is horrific, but this turn around is even more sickening. What a fool. Does she think we are that stupid? We're attached to principles, Harman.
- UsQueersdotcom, on 04/22/2009, -4/+39I will never be able to do one of these kinds of point-by-point refutations again. Glenn Greenwald has prepared such a fine dish. He chopped, seasoned and skewered Rep. Jane Harman (D), and cooked her slowly on a spit. The controlled burn was her own words used against her. If you get a chance go to the Salon article because it is loaded with links to the facts backing up every sarcastic, Right-Wing, terror-baiting, rights-destroying way and most of the worst times she pushed hard for Bush to use warrantless information gathering against you and me. Now she doesn't like the warranted tape recorder turned on her? Wow! This is going to blow up, methinks (obligatory pirate reference). Mehopes.
- charlie6969, on 04/22/2009, -3/+33It really does suck to be spied on, doesn't it?
Seems completely fair to me........ - omefrans, on 04/22/2009, -3/+29Very nicely written piece --- very funny... and sad. Anyhow, go read!
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -2/+25It's only wrong when the OTHER ***** do it.
- dalittle, on 04/22/2009, -4/+26Rep Harman is a protector of AIPAC and israeli spys. She is no friend to the US and should give up her House Seat and be prosecuted for criminal acts along with members of AIPAC.
- sigmaman2, on 04/22/2009, -2/+24Ummm, you do realize that the taxes you paid this past April 15th are taxes that were set by the Bush administration...right?
We split from England because of taxation without representation...not taxation with POOR representation. - Echota, on 04/22/2009, -0/+20lol! You said it!
- lordmike, on 04/22/2009, -3/+22Not much of one... her interfernece to surpress the NY Times story probably led to Bush's re-election...
- Seminarian, on 04/22/2009, -11/+28The irony of this is deliciously rich. As he says, a liberal is any former conservative who gets arrested (or, in this case, investigated.) I love it.
- Pstmann, on 04/22/2009, -3/+20Never trust anyone who's first allegiance is to their religion.
- ClosedCaption, on 04/22/2009, -2/+18the ONLY ones?...buried for partisan blindness
- lordmike, on 04/22/2009, -1/+16"Representative from Ohio's 10th district. Good guy."
Kucinich is a good guy, but he doesn't have much power, unfortunately.... - EarlOfLade, on 04/22/2009, -0/+15I have no problems with that.
Being a member of the Democratic party is not some insurance against the person doing wrong. Thinking or even hinting at such nonsense is ridiculous.
What I have more issues with, is her involvement in the Israelis spy disaster. I hope she'll be indicted for espionage and treason. Why do people treat Israel as if they were some nation that can do no wrong? - sulthernao, on 04/22/2009, -0/+14Unless you live in DC, you have no reason to complain for "taxation without representation".
- Angostura, on 04/22/2009, -1/+15Oh I thought you left because you quite rightly didn't like taxation without representation.
- geekee, on 04/22/2009, -3/+16Harman is a Democrat
- diskoh, on 04/22/2009, -0/+13Representative from Ohio's 10th district. Good guy.
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -1/+13Karma is a bitch...she just happens to be a bigger bitch.
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -3/+15There are no real liberals in power.
Not one. - seanstuart, on 04/22/2009, -0/+11Glenn Greenwald's work is reliably thorough, relevant, and all-around damn good.
- sulthernao, on 04/22/2009, -1/+11Yeah I agree. She's a ***** bitch who began touting Bush's wiretapping program right in time for the 2004 election.
I say this as a through-and-through liberal Democrat, she's a disgrace. - HallEffected, on 04/22/2009, -2/+11Quick, somebody look up "irony" in the dictionary
- TsuruchiBrian, on 04/22/2009, -2/+11***** Jane Harman. ***** Democrats. ***** Republicans. They are all crooks.
...except for DK and RP - kasjogren, on 04/22/2009, -4/+12Barely.
- thrashertm, on 04/22/2009, -1/+9Not only is this unethical, but could it be considered treason? She was colluding with agents of a foreign government after all. I think that seeing a member of Congress swinging from the gallows would be just what this country needs. Maybe then we can get on with investigating torture and perhaps letting Bush and Cheney take their own perp walks.
Edit: Also how about holding some of these banksters accountable for the obviously massive fraud they've been engaging in. Geithner and Paulson should both be strung up by their thumbs. You know that the banks got the OK from the administration to fudge their accounting to show profits for the 1Q this year. They should all be punished without mercy!
I'll bring the tar, you bring the feathers. - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -4/+12oops i said lefties
- thrashertm, on 04/22/2009, -1/+8Just goes to show you that there's little difference between the Dems and the GOP on most issues. They are almost all scum.
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+7Bottom line for this politician and all others is she BETRAYED her OATH OF OFFICE! She swore to maintain, protect, and defend this country AND IT"S CONSTITUTION! against all enemies public and private. If she is guilty I expect her to be imprisoned and fined ( equal to all pay and privilages) she has receieved while pretending to be a REPRESENTATIVE of the people.
- geekee, on 04/22/2009, -5/+12Apparently warrantless wiretapping is effective :-)
She was hilarious on NPR yesterday. The interviewer asked her if the conversations took place, and she kept saying we'll need to see the transcripts. After asking the question twice and getting the same answer, the interviewer asked if she just didn't remember what happened. - kasjogren, on 04/22/2009, -0/+7Even they are getting a rep soon.
- thebigredcat, on 04/22/2009, -0/+7So she's saying that what is good for the goose ISN'T good for the gander? Well, ***** me.
- DankBuddz, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6Well what do you have to worry about if you didn't do anything wrong? ... Right? ...
- Pstmann, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6Gotta love NPR.
- muckemuck, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6AIPAC is at the heart of this.. don't lose sight of that.
- jitterbits, on 04/22/2009, -1/+7To which, Karma replied, "***** off, fatty!"
- sulthernao, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6She's a Blue Dog.
- rabidjester, on 04/22/2009, -1/+7Her and Gonzales should be brought up on charges. I mean, there's no way they stuff they pulled is legal, right? Please say I'm right.. :/
That NY Times article had me fuming. Crazy *****. - JBizness, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6Wow. This isn't even a "gotcha" type of moment...this is total hypocrisy! After all the interviews and television show appearances, how can they still believe no one will notice?
One day, politicians will figure out that "series of tube" known as the "interweb". - alappat1, on 04/22/2009, -5/+11I love how you misinterpret the entire point of the article and then make a hasty generalization. He is talking about the hypocrisy of one person, and suddenly its about all liberals...
- Pstmann, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6I think it's more of a play on the old saying "A conservative is just an old liberal who has been mugged".
- jeffwmartin, on 04/22/2009, -1/+7This is the quote that pissed me off..."I'm an American citizen just like you are." Why would someone make such a statement? It's because that person considers themselves above us commonfolk. She assumes that we see her the way she sees herself, above the general riff raff. Since she thinks we see her as something better than us, she has to remind everyone that "she's one of us."
- flashingcurser, on 04/22/2009, -1/+6@ lordmike
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/110/ho ...
She voted with party 96.7% of the time. I would say she's 96.7% of one. - SpinningHead, on 04/22/2009, -1/+6Because Democrats have always supported warrantless wiretapping in the name of security? I must have been watching the wrong channel since 2000.
- charlie6969, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5lol exactly.
Some people actually believe it was wrong when Bush was Prez and it is wrong now.
I know; dangerous people.lol -
